OUR CORRESPONDENT New Delhi | 8th Mar 2014 Link:- Clerics demand Ahmed Patel’s arrest over waqf property Muslim clerics demanded the immediate arrest of Congress president Sonia Gandhi's political secretary Ahmed Patel for conniving with those responsible for the illegal occupation of a prime Waqf property in Karbala near Jorbagh in New Delhi. Addressing a press conference, Maulana Kalbe Jawad, renowned cleric and general secretary of Majlis Ulema-e-hind, and representatives of Anjuman-e-Haideri, trustee of Dargah Shah-e-Mardan said that Patel has admitted umpteen times that the Karbala land belongs to Waqf. However, he has also simultaneously been maintaining that the police was not following the instructions of the government since Moeed Khan and Waseem Khan, the gardeners running a Nursery on the Waqf land were "very powerful". The question is that "who is patronising the Waqf land grabbers who despite three High Court orders continue to be in possession of the land. To our understanding, it is Ahmed Patel who has been hand in glove in supporting illegal activities on Waqf land." Maulana Kalbe Jawad said that a nationwide agitation has been going on against the Congress president's political secretary for usurping Waqf land in both Karbala and the Mehrauli Kabristan. He alleged that Patel had been using the underworld to threaten members of the Anjuma-e-Haideri and even their lawyers. A delegation of Muslim leaders will meet Sonia Gandhi on Monday to once again urge her to intervene in the matter and get the illegal activities on Waqf properties stopped. To add insult to injury, Congress leaders have been claiming that 123 Waqf properties had been de-notified. The Central government has all these years failed to implement the Burney Committee report submitted way back in 1984. "If our properties are de-notified, are we supposed to feel grateful? It is like the rightful owners thanking the thieves for returning their stolen goods." He demanded that all encroachments on Waqf land should be removed. The government has claimed that 84 properties could not be traced. "This is most absurd as there is no way the properties could have disappeared. The government does not want to admit that these untraced properties include the land on which the Oberoi Hotel, Lodhi Hotel and Select City Mall have been built." Maulana Jawad said that the Muslim community as a whole supported their demand. Those endorsing their demands include the Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid, Syed Ahmed Bukhari and the Jamait-e-Islami.
