Considering the current political situation around the world which countries can we consider as best friends in case of a war with Pakistan or China? Cold war is over and USSR is disintegrated. Russia is slowly drifting away (recent naval exercise drama is signalling about that). US is still not be considered as a very trustworthy friend. Japan always has reservations when it comes to nuclear weapons. Israel can be an active friend but don't know till what level. As we have seen in the past, middle-eastern and gulf countries always came openly in support of Pakistan in terms of Oil or other battlefield supplies in wars with India. Pakistan can count on to all extent on China, UAE, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and other so called brotherly countries. Are we lacking on our diplomatic front that we don't have any such strategic friend?
Spot on! We are Mahatma Gandhi's own. Friends of All and enemy to None! It is just that some countries are just cynical and don't believe that. And some countries believe that religion is über alles!
There can be no friends as such in relations between countries only permanent thing is national interest and governments act in pursuance of the same.
With all these friends and brotherly love Pakistan has how did they lose 4 wars and get split in 2?? 100 billion in defence and energy deals over the next decade with the Russian must mean there is some friendship left especially on the naval side (Akula)
Does any large nation really have(or need) any true friends?? Pakistan is a non-NATO ally of USA and it gets daily drone attacks and humiliated every other week(abbottabad, aid cut etc...)
LF, I dont think in real politic there exists a word termed "friendship", whether the size of country is large or small, or the size of economy is large or small. It only exists in fairy tales told to pakistanis, and none other.
I agree TR friendship applies more to individuals than nations regardless of size. Smaller nations get used and abused by larger nations it is just the way of the world everything else is just rhetoric. Considering all the friends Pakistan has and no economy to show for it as an example.
we have proved to world that you do not need to have BFFs on international level...BFF are only for countries like pakistan...
It is the moral duty of nation's leaders to make their country militarily and economically strong so that India does not have to look for hands of friendship from other nation's but the other way around. These two spineless leaders of the GOVT. and opposition have no vision how to be develop the nation which can stand on her own strengths in the International arena. On this, I second SATISH POV.
"Friendship" does not apply to countries. What applies to international relations is "national interest." The more the national interests of countries intersect positively the more likely that they will cooperate on international affairs. Do it consistently and then formalise common grounds in a binding treaty and you have an "alliance," the closest you'll get to "friendship." The question now begs to be asked, given the geopolitical realities of the 21st century, can India adjust its "national interests" to coincide that with other World power/s and can consistently maintain identical national interest long term so that it can enter into binding alliance or alliances with any of these power/s whom its national interests are most attuned with? Or will it continue to being a "non-aligned," in layman's inter-personal linggo, everybody's friend (hence, nobody's friend)...
@ Thread Starter First of all tell me is there any country so good with whom Our Alignment will make our situation better than Today in all aspects?
If we wish to stand upto China - Asean, Japan, EU, USA, Israel, Russia would probably help us ? If we go against Pakistan - Israel, Russia, France/EU(weapon sales), US(as broker)
