But we'll have bear a lot of pressure not only from pakistan but from China thats where we have owe very much debt...

You can just play the usual China card and get goodies. Your Indian friends will give utmost priority to your concerns.

I use to think Sri Lanka was fairly decently governed but after reading how heavily indebted you are to a pathetic country like Pakistan for bullets and antique rocket launchers it changes the perception of the country. Sri Lanka is at a level of Sudan or Rwanda as far governing goes. Even Bangladesh is in much better shape.

Don't believe China will fight your wars for you. No one will.

If you get into a tussle with India, it won't be a shooting match. It will be handled diplomatically.

Don't forget we conquered a country stronger than SL in 1971 in just 14 days and in 1971 we were fighting the Pakistanis on two fronts and also preparing for action against the US. All this was in 1971 where technology was in numbers and our force strength was just twice that of the Pakistanis.

Now compare that to today. India's experience and expenditure is pushing the services into the Big league and SL isn't anywhere close to beating an IA division from the 50s.

If Sri Lanka wants to get involved in any anti Indian conflict the best thing to do would be drop an EMP bomb on them and not worry about them for a few centuries, while they return to the stone age.

Yusuf trying to show goodwill to a person who is indebted for life for a few bullets to Pakistan is a daunting task. All nations need to realize China is not going to stick their neck for any puny saplings. Indian - Chinese trade is approaching 100 billion dollars annually that speaks volumes louder than all the little saplings combined.

First of all we have to realize that being a island nation Sri Lanka need to maintain a credible Navy and a Air force to defend her air and maritime interests. The biggest threat to Sri Lanka's national integrity is India. Being just 32 km away from Indian landmass It's the relationship with India that matter most when facing global scale conflict involving China, Pakistan and India. Therefore here are some military equipments currently available to purchase if Sri Lankan economy could cope with it. Note that Sri Lanka doesn't have such a economical capacity to sustain a credible force in Indian Ocean region and with in a Conventional Conflict Scenario.

Air Defense

1 X S300 PMU-1 or PMU-2 defending Colombo municipality

3-6 X SA-22 Pantsir S1 or SA 17 Buk M2 for defending the S300 system against smart weapons and cruise missiles

2-4 X SA 19 2S6M Tunguska M for point defense interception

Several modern AAA unit for the defense of other key facilities

12-16 X SU 30MKK or another version

Navy

2 X Kilo class submarines

10-12 X Air defense vessels typically AAW destroyers or frigates

Credible number of fast attack craft currently exist in SLN such as Dhoras for the SBS

we have bought most of these systems from Russia decades ago and know them inside out. Do you think Russia will upset their biggest customer for something you are thinking of buying?? whatever puny orders you give Russia. Expect India to get the source codes for it.

HeinzGud,

Your post provides for good entertainment value, nice giggle :)

Which also leads me to think that your not Sri Lankan, unless you've started drawing inspiration from the LTTE suicide bombers.

This make no sense, Srilanka strategy can only be as diplomatic, India can sustain more than 45 days all out war with Pakistan, Beside Srilankan Gov is friendly to India otherwise they wouldn't offer us port in their country..

The only thing Lanka needs is India's benevolence. They need nothing else.

Also any hypothetical war in the future with Lanka will not exactly be against Lanka - it will be against Sinhalese, to be precise.

The Madras Sappers are deadly.
,,,,, also they also have a kind of personal vendetta in this.

sometimes size matters. In this case, size is the over-riding factor. SL can never have neutrality. Its fortunes are linked to India.

India is no threat to Sri Lanka.

However, Sri Lanka cannot be faulted in believing so since there is the cogent Tamil threat. However, the Tamil discontent is of Sri Lanka's own making wherein they have ensured serious discrimination in the citizenry rights and dues.

No matter what Sri Lanka may acquire for conventional defence, it will never be adequate since it has no strategic space and it being an island has not topographical inhibitors.
