70% of the total surface and ground water used in India every year is for agriculture. 70% of that is used for paddy. i.e., half of all fresh water consumption in our country goes into growing paddy - FACT.

The biggest setback in Agriculture is lack of Water

Paddy is the main food source in India and it thus takes a lot of water. Btw, Do wheat takes the same level of water has paddy?
