No sir, Putin visit was not a productive visit. Prime Minister Modi wanted Putin visit out of the way before President Obama comes calling. He has skillfully done it.

Putin did not yield on anything new. The bad taste in the mouth with lack of spares for military hardware, refusal of TOT in a number of cases where it is already agreed upon during negotiations at least ten years back is still outstanding. On top of that no arrangement for the stealth fighter which Russia and India are supposedly developing together could be reached. It is almost in square one as Russians will not allow more access to technology. They will allow it only if the price is right. Otherwise they will build it and charge for the full developmental cost etc. That will be the day when $40 or $400 billion oil and gas pipeline will reach India, bypassing Pakistan and Afghanistan. Diamonds supply is a small issue in the scope of things at the moment. Those 400 helicopters is basically screw driver technology with employment potential for HAL or any other company, nothing more.

The political support which Russia and before that Soviet Union provided to India over last fifty years is being suitably returned with India's support for Ukraine trouble initiated by US. In addition India has provided all the support Russia needs for trouble which the west is causing it in the Caucuses for the Russians for the last twenty years.

With Luke warm successes of Putin visit and US in the loop, much need to be seen what US President brings with him during his January 26th visit to India. His visit has already been sweetened with award of about $2 billion contract for Apache and Chinook helicopters. That talk of joint development of military hardware is merely a talk, it was a candy being waived in front of a kid to pull him out of a particular situation.

What India needs from US President Obama is straighten up an already cold India - US relationship as initiated by Hillary Clinton during her tenure at the State Department. She smiles a lot but acts differently in the background. All these problems in the Nuclear deal, drugs import from India issues, intellectual patent rights and many more silly issues like arresting an Indian Diplomat in New York and strip search her at the behest of liar domestic help are result of US government officials getting bolder and bolder and acting against the mutual friendly relationship. These were initiated by ex PM Vajpayee in 2000 /2001 and continued by ManMohan and resulted in a Indo-US Nuclear deal. Then cold water was poured over it. Some errors Indian Parliamentary process made, but brakes were applied by OBama/ Hillary together.

If US values and needs India, as China is determined to openly challenge US in East Asia, then put a halt all that anti Indianism going on the various US Government departments. Let us deal like friends. India will be too happy to reciprocate. There is a new government in power in Delhi, it's color is different, it is more likeable and compatible to US taste than any other previous government in India. US should take full advantage of that.

By the time Obama reaches Delhi, the insurance bill will be passed and most likely the GST bill be passed. Labor reforms are next. US has been advising on all these reforms. The private sector will in all likelyhood be the king. The public sector will slowly and slowly take a back seat. It is in-efficient and most corrupt. Already Coal India is being sold, others are in the offing. Hence US cannot complain.

If Obama is unable to put the anti Indian lobby on the leash in the US government then, the next US president hopefully a Republican will overhaul the anti Indian lobby. It has to be done. Why not now and be remembered in the history like Nixon is remembered for China initiative. Hence do it!!!!

Old video of Indira Gandhi visiting the USSR:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJ1l5f4XylA
Smt. Indira Gandhi was a great, humanitarian and strong leader. I had the good fortune to see her from about 2 feet away and give a bunch of flowers to her ....I was a little child then . . She loved India more than her life. India's enemies would have broken India to pieces if there was a weak, average leader in her place. The enemies of India planned and supported Pakistani military to create separatist movements in Jammu and Kashmir and Panjab (Khalistan Movement) Funded by west and implemented by Paki. Khalistani terrorists were trained and givien AK-47 rifles in eastern aprt of Paki Panjab esp Shialkot area and infilterated inside Indian Panjab. India was so fortunate that Mrs Gandhi was there as its leader and all attempts of enemies were foiled. India remained intact. These are the same enemies who are falling over each other to do business with India and want to be allies. Amazing !

Sir, will you elaborate how US is good on India with some examples ?
Very simple, it has that capability to harm India with the help of sanctions against India.

So make sense to keep better relations with US from day one, when the cold war-2 begins.

Sir, I trust you are aware of the harsh sanctions imposed on India not so long ago in 1999.
India not only successfully defeated those sanctions but also compelled major forces to look upto India as a future power.
Had the last 10 years not been wasted by MMS & Co, India might have become an established regional power today.

May be that is why Indian govt started defense - strategic talks with US in 2000-2001.
