I wonder why English are building two super carriers , French are going to build QE class catobar version and Russians also said that they ll go for bigger carriers.

whatever our intentions are our Vikrant and Vikramaditya dont have the fire power to match china in china sea.
What is the stated aim of the carriers? Is it to bomb chinese cities? no one can apart from the US and it will be difficult for the US itself. A carrier task force of India will be able to protect Indian interests and that of its friends and allies (future) against the evil designs of the commie empire.

US will achieve air superiority in a day or two over china, Against china they dont have to fight with one hand behind its back like they did in afghan or iraq.
Only after 2020 when IAC - 2 and 3 become operational we can protect our allies interests.

i am totally disagree carrier will be sitting ducks in south china sea without enough pprotection ,cauple of stealth ships backed by sub can do the job much more efficiently ,with their sea based missiles, and if chineese went for the air strike then we can send navy planes from nearby carrier group, but the carriers should not venture near chineese land ,but we should lure the chineese into bay of bengal and from both air force and navy can take care of chineese in our area and without logistics they will cannot sustain the campain for long time,

Read about naval mrca and this
Nice.

Too bad Su-33 is out of the fray(they are still selling 50 odd ones to the Chinese though, weird).

Nothing decided for INS Vishal. It would be most likely Rafale/Typhoon/F-35 or even TejasMK2 possible. It will be decided once 1ACC will be busy in sea trial (In 2012 End/2013, I suppose)

Let me put it this way, an Indian carrier venturing into south china sea is more safer than a chinese carrier (in the future) venturing into India. For one, it will be difficult for a Chinese Task Force to cross Malaccas and come into our region. Who can the the Chinese bank on? Sri Lankans? Burmese? Do they compare with Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Phillipines who all have a problem with China? Do the Sri Lankans have any problems with India in the broader sense like territorial disputes nor do the Burmese. Any future alliances will certainly be more painful for the chinese.

Mig-29 has newer avionics and radar, upgrades of su-33 still not clear and both play a very different role.

Absolutely. We have big advantage as we are Enemy at Gate whereas China can only stop us when we are close to destination. Also, we have natural aircraft carrier (Andaman & Nicobar Island). :)

Well, in that way. No one is safe. K-4,5 from Indian Ocean can destroy 50% Industries, Strategic Assets and Major Cities of China within an hour. Why we need Aircraft carrier ? :)

So what about Pakistan, if PRC got control over Gadwar port and pass logistic transport through land route?
