I am quite surprised by the Chart!! First of all UP is 2nd? Then Andhra and WB is above Gujarat? WB is know for poverty and because of its communist party they dont have proper industries there either, so how does that appear above Gujarat! Sadist part Punjab is even below Kerala and right above Bihar that is the biggest shock! The land of 5 rivers and the bread basket of India is below the coconut tree land and jungle raj!
First of all dont judge by these figures, the population in the North-East is extremely low, Manipu has just 1.5million people that is lesser than Delhi. So for that GDP and population people there are in par with the rest of India if that is anything good!Economic disparity has always existed, but there is more disparity now than at any other time in Indian history. The gap is increasing rapidly and will only continue to increase.
It is the backward states that obviously require the most investment.
what you need to look at is not the holistic nominal gdp figures but per capita figures for each state which is what will tell the economic situation of each state.I am quite surprised by the Chart!! One thing that did not surprise me is that South Indian states are all getting well! Chennai is like the Detroit of India and they have almost all the car factories there.
is there less corruption of babus?More buisness friendly, better infrastructure, educated workforce and good state policy for buisness along with a real estate boom.
In Gujarat the answer is Yes!!is there less corruption of babus?
Just add one more col to that chart ie % of population. Another for GDP per capita. Startling.I am quite surprised by the Chart!! First of all UP is 2nd? Then Andhra and WB is above Gujarat? Per capita is there. What people might have noticed is that in dollar terms economy had shrunk due to the increase in dollar price. In dupes terms there were handsome gains.Just add one more col to that chart ie % of population. Another for GDP per capita. Startling.
in fact gujarat has a lot of hype around it since a lot of pr and money has gone in to building that image, the state which is doing a quite brisk march, about which no one ever talks is haryana. If Andhrabgets its act right we might be back on track and give modi a run for his money.Let this T issue get fixed as fast as possible
But when services sector will observe a saturation point the only engine that will drive India's growth will be the manufacturing and industrial sector which has a strong foothold in Gujarat and many MNCs coming.if you have a closer look at the chart (http://unidow.com/india home eng/statewise_gdp.html) there you would see an average haryanvi earns 21% more than an average gujju. in fiscal 2009 haryana's yoy growth was 18.39%, compare that to gujarat's 11.22%, and for fiscal 2010 haryana grew by 14.4% compared to gujarat at 12.72%.
Gujarat's industry break up :
agriculture, forestry and fishing – 19.05%, industry – 34.92%, services – 46.04%
Haryana's industry break up :
agriculture, forestry and fishing –22.58%, industry –16.82%, services 60.60–%
http://unidow.com/statewise_gdp/default.html
the above shows haryana is not a predominantly an agriculture state but a services state. incidently india's fastest growing sector is services and not the industries. IIP for the month of november hit a wall at 2.7%.
and when will that when come? But when services sector will observe a saturation point the only engine that will drive India's growth will be the manufacturing and industrial sector which has a strong foothold in Gujarat and many MNCs coming.
The day Microsoft becomes bankrupt, i.e. never.and when will that when come?
If China and Russia pirate enough software and enough people use Linux, maybe someday. The day Microsoft becomes bankrupt, i.e. never.
yeah IT could go on endlessly may be not but one thing we forget and that is one of the major components of services sector is not the IT but the retail sector and this sector is yet to take off in india, now it is assumed people who have more buying power will play a significant role in growth of this sector and this is where haryana has the edge. The day Microsoft becomes bankrupt, i.e. never.
