Ah so Venezuela was doing great under socialism before the US intervened? Its the old cold war excuse, socialism would work great but evil US intervened and spoilt everything.

So let's me know how socialism worked great for us.

As for US intervention, that's their right, it's in their interest. What can we do about it?
It's none of our business how Venezuela was doing under socialism. It was exporting oil to us, it wasn't exporting socialism to us. The oil will stop after this US intervention, that's all that matters to India. Cheering a foreign power that is stopping oil supply to India and expecting to be taken seriously is the stupidest thing I've seen here in a while.

Little bit of iodine in food never hurts. All your comprehension problems will be solved.

Venezuelan Embassy’s Power Cut Off in Tense Washington Standoff

  • May 9, 2019
A chaotic political standoff with international diplomatic implications began unfolding quietly weeks ago on a leafy side street in the upscale Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, as a group of American activists moved into the five-story Venezuelan Embassy and made themselves at home.

They were there, they said, to keep the United States from going to war.

With some 100 Venezuelan diplomats still working inside during the day, the activists from Code Pink and other antiwar groups brought their things to spend the night, sleeping on couches to keep the building occupied around the clock. They said they were guests, invited by the government of President Nicolás Maduro, and their mission was to oppose any American military intervention in the troubled South American nation.

Appointees of Juan Guaidó, the opposition leader recognized by the United States and some 50 other countries as Venezuela’s interim president, had pledged to take over the embassy, a move those now occupying the facility fear could lead to a reciprocal siege of the American Embassy in Venezuela, and an armed conflict.

Late last month, local Venezuelans who support Mr. Guaidó learned of the occupation and descended on the building, demanding that the activists, whom they view as unlawful trespassers, get out.

named by Mr. Guaidó and recognized by the White House, has showed up at the embassy steps twice in the past week, but has not been let in.

Francisco Márquez, Mr. Vecchio’s political adviser, said that once the United States recognized Mr. Guaidó as Venezuela’s constitutional leader, those inside the embassy lost their legitimacy as guests of Mr. Maduro. The State Department has also said it considers their presence to be “unauthorized.”

“There’s no doubt of who has authority over the embassy,” Mr. Márquez said. “We literally have foreigners trespassing on Venezuelan territory. They’re actually committing a crime.”

No one has gone in to forcibly remove anyone. Ms. Benjamin said doing so would violate an international treaty that protects the sovereignty of diplomatic missions. Mr. Márquez said the treaty applies to the recognized government in question — that is, Mr. Guaidó’s — and would not protect Code Pink and the other groups.

When Pepco, the power utility, sent an employee to go into a manhole on Wednesday night and cut the building’s electricity, Ms. Benjamin questioned whether Pepco had faced political pressure from the Trump administration. She said the electrical bill has been paid through the end of May.

Mr. Márquez said Pepco acted after Mr. Vecchio reached out to the utility and explained the situation. Ben Armstrong, a Pepco spokesman, declined to comment, “out of respect for customer privacy and public safety.”

At the peak of the embassy occupation, some 50 people were inside, sleeping on the floor, sharing cooking duties and engaging in art and music activities. But only about 15 people remain in the building, Ms. Benjamin said. The others have been unable to return ever since protesters arrived and effectively blockaded most entrances.

Two activists have been arrested in recent days for trying to deliver food. One tossed bread and lettuce onto the embassy patio, Ms. Benjamin said. Another tried to toss a cucumber. An attempt to bring in food via a window rope-and-pulley contraption proved unsuccessful.

“They’re not hostages — they can come outside and eat,” said Gabriela Febres, a Venezuelan who has been at the site for 10 days. “They can protest, but so can we, and that’s what we’re doing. They can protest all they want, but not inside the building. They can go to the Capitol and express their dislike with Trump at the Capitol with their senators.”

On Thursday, Ms. Benjamin scheduled a news conference to denounce the cutoff of electricity. But those gathered outside the embassy blared a loud horn and banged empty pots and pans, making it nearly impossible for her to speak. Later in the afternoon, at least 30 people were scattered outside; that number typically swells to more than twice that in the evening and on weekends when people are off work. Speakers on a sound booth out front periodically play music.

Mr. Guaidó’s supporters have covered a wall with pictures of prominent anti-Maduro activists, including several whose deaths they blame on the government. A handwritten poster out back laid out, in Spanish, a code of conduct urging people to respect the embassy site and “be assertive, not offensive.” Ms. Benjamin accused those assembled outside of shoving her and making sexist and racist comments; the Venezuelans said one of the activists shoved a pregnant woman.

“We’re not trying to hurt anyone by doing what we’re doing,” said Ms. Bustillos, who is now preparing to enter her ninth day outside the embassy. “We’re just asking them to please come out.”

I’ll laugh my ass off of the Americans think that a military solution exists in Venezuela.

Did these morons not learn their lesson from Vietnam or Afghanistan? There is no viable military solution when the local people- even at the height of their internal schisms- hate YOU, an outsider, all the more.

You need to learn to contextualize.

I never argued that US meddling in Venezuela would be good for us. It was merely a point about how blaming the US for all all Venezuela's ills and giving socialism a pass was just plain stupid. Socialism destroys every economy as it's inherently dumb and evil. As the former British PM, Thatcher said, 'The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.' Its evil because it demands the fruits of my labor and seeks to control it, to force me into something that I do not want to do.

As for India, we suffered under Nehru's and Indira's socialist policies that kept us underdeveloped for over half a century. I hope I don't have to recount examples of that painfully obvious fact.

Now coming to the energy situation, though that was not the context, since you raised it, its obviously better for us as a energy consumer to have independent sources; however, the reality is that US is actively pursuing the strategy of controlling all countries with significant oil reserves and in that regard they are pushing all major consumers to source from countries controlled by them. That is a reality that we need to face up with, simply wishing that Venezuela remain an independent socialist shit-hole will do nothing to change that reality. In the short-term we have to give in to the US as far as oil is concerned and in the long term, grow big enough to try to be independent in this regard.

As for oil money coming into India for conversions, that's handled better by forming and executing strict laws in the country rather than wishing geo-politics goes our way. In this regard, GoI under PM Modi has done little, Chattisharg is a prime example of a state that we'll lose to conversion, albeit to Christianity and not Islam. The principle of checking money flooding in remains the same.

So as I began, its not that I like US taking over Venezuela, its just that you can't absolve socialism.
This is one of the most foolish rants I have seen. Do you even know about Socialism? Socialism just seeks to share natural resource and their benefit with everyone instead of allowing someone to monopolise it.

Nehru was a capitalist. In fact, he used to severely clamp down on communists with CIA help. Nehru was a mole of UK & USA. Indira was an agent of USSR who assassinated Shastri and hence pretended to be a socialist.

Socialism does not cause problems, it is foreign agents who cause problems. One must understand this very clearly. Socialism does not live on other money. Natural resource does not belong to any man and hence Sociialism only tries to distribute resource reasonably.

USA does not derive its strength from Capitalism but from petrodollar deal with KSA which was meant as a quid pro quo for USA supporting Islamic.expansion in return for GCC countries selling oil exclusively in dollar. Talking badly of socialism shows poor understanding of politics

Long term solution is to eliminate the religious imperialists like USA who use religion to expand. India never had socialism but always had foreign agents. Calling foreign agents as socialism is foolish.

Venezuela was always under USA control till Chavez came and since then USA has been sanctioning venezuela. So, Venezuela has been independent only for about 15-20 years and not more. Venezuelan condition during Chavez was good but the oil price crash brought it down since 2014 and USA started to arm twist by currency manipulation. Still, venezuelan condition before USA intervention was good.

FYI, even USA, UK, France etc have a massive socialist scheme within their nation. Just look at the subsidy given by USA withim its country to oil companies, farmers etc. Look how UK gives subsidy & welfare to its people. Look how French govt spends on welfare. Going around calling venezuela as socialist while UK, France, USA who do same thing as capitalist is retarded. USA is a religious empire and the religious connection is used to empower it. It is having an advantage of abundant natural resource at its disposal which empowers it eve more.

Blaming economic policy for lack of natural resource in a country is also absurd. Indian aim must be to completely dismantle western countries and their Jihadi allies

USA is not a religious empire, you are reading far too much into this.

If it were, Trump wouldn't have furthered the disengagement of American troops in Afghanistan or withdrawn the reinforcements from Syria.

People like Jerry Boykin in the American military are the exception, not the norm. Two of my cousins served in the U.S. military (one in the Marine Corps) and did multiple tours in Iraq from 2005-2010. While they aren't very committed Hindus- both were born and raised in the U.S. Bible Belt- they weren't pressured to conform to Christian worship or prayer services.

They don't force anyone to convert as they rely on petrodollar deal with muslims. So, USA follows secular policy to get petrodollars. It is a give & take deal. USA derives its strength from christian nations and by helping muslims expand Islam (as part of petrodollar deal)

Muslim countries- the Arab world especially- has significant appropriation of global oil supply. What exactly do you expect the USA or the West to do save for trading with them for the sake of the latter's societal subsistence?

America doesn't derive it's strength from Christianity. Christianity is a means to project soft power and cultural influence, but the reverse is not as true. You really think the Evangelicals are in control? Then why on God's green earth are we yet to see a strike on Iran despite 12 years of posturing and Israeli encouragement/demands?

Do you know what is capability limit? It is not that USA is superman that it can do whatever it wants without adversely affecting itself? How can USA attack Iran when Iran is fully geared to attacking the oil supply route and disrupting oil trade? Oil is essential and USA can't attack Iran even if it wants to. Also, considering that Iran has islamic influence which other countries like Libya or Iraq did not have, it is not easy to attack Iran.

It is this capability limit which is limiting USA. Considering it as unreligious attitude is absurd. USA does not trade with Arabs but have political alliance with Arabs

In clear violation of international law, police broke into Venezuela’s embassy in Washington DC, arresting activists invited by staff. They prevented the building from being seized by US-backed coup leader Juan Guaido’s people.
After spending over a month camped out in the embassy, the final four activists of the Venezuelan Embassy Protection Collective have been placed under arrest after police broke down doors and entered the premises on Thursday.

Venezuela had not authorized US authorities to enter the building, Vice-Minister for North American Relations, Carlos Ron, wrote on Twitter. Under the 1961 Vienna Convention, embassies are considered sovereign territory of the government they represent, making the action a violation of international law.

Let it be clear. The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela does not authorize the entrance of any US law enforcement officers into our former Embassy building in Washington. Any such entrance is an unlawful breach of the Vienna Convention.

Despite the failure of self-declared ‘interim president’ Juan Guaido to launch a coup last month, US authorities continue to recognize his government as the legal authority in Venezuela. A note on the building the day before the raid stated that the US doesn’t recognize the authority of President Nicolas Maduro’s staff, and urged the activists to “depart immediately.

“We denounce the arrest of the #EmbassyProtectionCollective members who were staying in the Embassy with our permission,” say Dep. Foreign Minister Carlos Ron. “We do not authorize any of the coup representatives to enter the Embassy."

Conflict between the activists inside the office and supporters of Juan Guaido intensified after the coup effort fell flat. Crowds of people opposed to Maduro’s government have been gathering outside the premises attempting to blockade the people inside from receiving food and other vital resources. Police arrested several people for attempting to throw food and hygiene supplies in, while authorities cut off the power and water supply.

This Venezuelan Patrol Ship Sunk Itself After Ramming A Cruise Liner With A Reinforced Hull

https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zo...amming-a-cruise-liner-with-an-reinforced-hull

The cousin of my wife who is a crew of a large Malta flagged tanker told messaged us about 2 months ago that the Venezuelan Coast Guard asked from their Captain $2M while they were loading crude off Venezuela. The Captain and the Company were forced to give all the money in the ship to the Venezuelan CG since theyvwould not let them sail (it wasn't clear how much was given).

Their Company said they will not serve anymore Venezuelan route.

Venezuela arrests eight mercenaries part of “Operation Gedeon,” including two US citizens
Fisherman of the coastal town Chuao aided to capture and detain 8 mercenaries that planned to enter into Venezuela to carry out assassinations and eventually overthrow President Maduro
May 06, 2020 by Peoples Dispatch

The desperate attempts by the Venezuelan far-right opposition to envelop their country in violence and chaos continue. As Venezuelan authorities warned on Sunday May 3 after repelling an attempted incursion by mercenaries in La Guaira, the terrorist plot, now dubbed “Operation Gedeon,” has continued. Early Monday May 4, Venezuelan security forces, aided by the fishers of the Bolivarian Militias in the coastal town of Chuao, arrested eight mercenaries on a speed boat who were attempting to enter the country. Two others were captured by Venezuelan Security Forces the same day in the town of Puerto Maya.

During the arrests more weaponry and military intelligence equipment was seized by Venezuelan security forces, as well as helmets and uniforms with the US flag and IDs and passports identifying the mercenaries.
The mercenaries who were arrested, as well as those killed and arrested early Sunday May 3 in La Guaira, were part of Operation Gedeon. The operation, which has been under investigation Venezuelan authorities for the past couple months, is believed to be organized, planned and financed by the Venezuelan opposition and its diverse allies with the objective to assassinate constitutional president Nicolás Maduro and other high-level leaders of the Venezuelan government.

Antonio Sequea, former Venezuelan National Guard member, who was last seen on April 30, 2019 during the failed coup d’état led by Leopoldo López and Juan Guaidó, was among those arrested on Monday. Sequea is believed to have led the operation.

The arrest of two US military officials from Texas, Luke Denman and Airan Berry, who are members of the US mercenary company Silvercorp was also noteworthy. The US government has denied all participation in the operation, and has largely ignored it, but according to one of the detained mercenaries the pair have a relationship with Trump’s head of security.

Their employer, Silvercorp, is key. It was founded by former Special Forces operative Jordan Goudreau. In February 2019, Goundreau and his company provided security to the Venezuelan right-wing during the Humanitarian Aid concert held the day before the humanitarian aid clash on the Colombian-Venezuelan border on February 23.

He reappeared days before the most recent attacks, in an article published in AP that revealed that Goundreau worked with Cliver Alcalá on a failed coup attempt against Nicolás Maduro. It discussed how the Venezuelan right-wing opposition has used Colombia as a strategic political and military base for plotting, planning and training to take actions against the Bolivarian government. The article however sought to distance Goundreau and his mercenary operations with the Venezuelan right-wing from the US government: “AP found no indication US officials sponsored Goudreau’s actions nor that Trump has authorized covert operations against Maduro, something that requires congressional notification.”

Videos and photos have also emerged on social media showing a contract signed between Goundreau and right-wing opposition leader Guaidó. The former US special operative expressed frustration because Guaidó did not hold up his end and Silvercorp has yet to receive payment for their work.

Furthermore, at around 18:00 on May 5, Vice-president Delcy Rodríguez announced that there had been attacks to the national electrical grid of Venezuela but that service was being restored on a national level. In 2019, Venezuela’s national grid suffered a series of attacks and sabotage operations during the first week of March, one week after the humanitarian aid fiasco. The government alleged that the attacks were carried out as part of a right-wing plot to destabilize the country.

Operation Gideon: a Former U.S. Soldier, a Drug Dealer, an Unfulfilled “Contract”
The most recent attempt to overthrow Maduro included a former U.S. military officer and 300 "heavily armed" Venezuelan volunteers

VENEZUELAFEATUREDPOLITICS
By Sabrina Martín Last updated May 6, 2020

Jordan Goudreau, an American, three-time recipient of the Bronze Star for courage in deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, claimed responsibility for the operation and said it all followed an agreement with the interim government of Juan Guaidó (Twitter).
Spanish – In the last several hours, there was an attempt to overthrow the regime of Nicolás Maduro. It included a former U.S. army officer and 300 “heavily armed” Venezuelan volunteers. This is Operation Gideon.
This weekend, Maduro’s regime reportedly succeeded in blocking a maritime incursion with mercenaries. The operation reportedly left eight dead and a couple of military personnel in custody.

According to journalist Sebastiana Barráez, an expert in military sources, “there was no invasion, but rather the transfer of a group of retired military personnel who were trying to join the liberation movement announced by other uniformed personnel.”
According to Chavista Interior Minister Néstor Reverol, from the group of ten people who tried to enter the country in a boat, one member died. The regime claimed that they had identity documents- some with Peru’s Temporary Residence Permit (PTP), bank debit cards, an expired medical certificate, a packet of wheat flour tortillas, and even a man’s wallet with a dollar for good luck.
“A group of retired military personnel from the National Guard tried to enter the country through Macuto to take their position because they are part of a movement of small groups that planned to enter Venezuelan territory to conduct a military rebellion. The regime waited for them, they confronted them, they detained some of them, and others were supposedly killed in the confrontation,” Barráez said.

Several hours later, names and versions of what happened began to emerge. Jordan Goudreau, an American, three-time recipient of the Bronze Star for his bravery in Iraq and Afghanistan, claimed responsibility for the operation and assured that it all happened after an agreement with the interim government of Juan Guaidó. The president, however, denied any involvement.

Maduro’s regime blamed the United States and Colombia. Meanwhile, alleged evidence has emerged that would implicate Guaidó with a supposed contract with a private security company aimed at overthrowing the tyrant. The evidence would implicate Guaidó as well as Clíver Alcalá Cordones, the former Chavista military officer currently detained in the United States on charges of drug trafficking.
Alcalá claimed ownership of some seized weapons, shortly before surrendering to face drug trafficking charges, and said they belonged to the “Venezuelan people.” He also attacked Guaidó, accusing him of betraying a contract signed between his “American advisors” and J.J. Rendón, a political strategist in Miami appointed by Guaidó to help force Maduro out of power.

What we know so far
“Some 300 heavily armed volunteers planned to sneak into Venezuela from the northern tip of South America and ignite a popular rebellion that would end in President Nicolas Maduro’s arrest,” AP reported.
Articles from various publications reveal the presence of secret training camps in Colombia from where the latest attempts to overthrow Maduro are emerging.
According to AP, the recent plan failed because of “poor planning, disputes between opposition politicians, and an ill-trained force that had little chance of defeating the Venezuelan army.”
AP further reported that Goudreau and Clíver Alcalá Cordones agreed on a rebellion plan that included weapons and an army of volunteers, all for an alleged budget of $1.5 million that former Green Beret did not eventually receive.
On March 29, before turning himself to the U.S. justice system, Alcalá recorded a video, claiming that there was a document- an agreement signed by President Guaidó, which stipulated the purchase of arms for a supposed military action against Maduro.
Guaido’s alleged support is one of the contradictions that appear here. Because although Goudreau assures that the interim president did not pay the agreed amount, AP reports that the interim government never gave him its support because “it believed it was a suicide mission.” According to the news agency, the agreement was only between Alcalá Cordones and the U.S. military.
“Goudreau told the volunteers that —once challenged in battle— Maduro’s demoralized troops would collapse like dominoes,” several of the soldiers told AP, revealing the so-called “Operation Gideon.”
Although Maduro claims to have dismantled the operation, Goudreau says this is just the beginning, and that he still has men infiltrating the Venezuelan military.

Training camps in Colombia
All indications suggest that secret training camps in Colombia do exist. In fact, Ephraim Mattos, a former U.S. Navy SEAL, told AP that he visited them and allegedly trained some of the potential fighters.
Mattos said he was surprised by the shortages. There was no running water, and the men slept on the floor, skipped meals, and trained with broomsticks instead of assault rifles. Five Belgian sheepdogs trained to sniff out explosives were as poorly fed as their trainers and had to be given away.

Is Goudreau a charlatan?
Mattos told AP he was skeptical when the men training to overthrow Maduro recalled that Goudreau had boasted of protecting Trump, and had also told them he was preparing a shipment of weapons and aerial support for an eventual assault on Maduro’s compound.
“Unfortunately, there are many truants in this business, who try to sell their military credentials in exchange for a large payment,” Mattos said.
Goudreau was born in Canada. He was under investigation in 2013 for allegedly embezzling $62,000 in housing stipends from the U.S. Army.
After retiring in 2016, he worked as a private security contractor in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria. In 2018, he established Silvercorp USA, a private security company. The company’s website features photos and videos of Goudreau firing machine guns in combat, running shirtless up a pyramid, flying in a private jet, and sporting a military backpack with a rolled-up U.S. flag.
The Silvercorp website offers operations in more than 50 countries, with a team of advisors consisting of former diplomats, experienced military strategists, and directors of multinational corporations, none of whom are identified by name. It claims to have “led international security teams” for the president of the United States.
The ex-Green Beret also claimed, according to AP, that he was a CIA agent. However, Colombian officials found out that this claim was a lie.
Juan Guaidó, interim president of Venezuela, also denied any relationship with the Silvercorp company.

Journalist Patricia Poleo interviewed Goudreau, who proudly claimed responsibility for the rebellion against Maduro. Poleo also published what appears to be the document supposedly signed by President Guaidó.

Aquí se demuestra que si existía un contrato firmado por Juan Guaido, JJ Rendon y Sergio Vergara con un contratista para salir militarmente de Maduro. Juan Guaido no cumplio.

“After Alcalá’s arrest, the alleged insurrection seems to have collapsed. As the coronavirus is spreading, several of the remaining fighters have fled the camps and have scattered all over Colombia, reconnecting with their loved ones, and trying to figure out what their next steps will be. Most of them are bankrupt, facing an investigation by the Colombian police, and are frustrated with Goudreau, whom they blame for leading them in the wrong direction,” AP said.
