AHMEDABAD: Among the top 10 vegetable processors of the world, Kenya-headquartered Vegpro Group wants to set up processing plant in Gujarat. The group has asked the state government to help them identify a land parcel of over 300 acres for setting up the plant.

The company briefed Gujarat government officials about its investment plans during an eight-day tour of a state-level business delegation to Kenya and South Africa for promotion of Vibrant Gujarat 2013.

"The 15-member delegation which had senior state government officials and businessmen from Gujarat had visited VegPro plant in Kenya. During the visit, the company expressed eagerness to set up a plant in Gujarat and sought support to identify land. However, they didn't disclose the investment," said a state government official. During the tour, Gujarat government also signed memorandum of understandings (MoUs) with Johannesburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI), Tanzania Investment Centre and Kenya National Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KNCCI) to give a boost to the bilateral trade.

The delegation had business leaders from healthcare, textiles, chemicals, renewable energy, agriculture processing, plastic, real-estate and gems & jewelry sectors. "The delegations interacted with over 600 company and business representatives through road shows and round-table meetings. Interests for bilateral trade between was shown in sector like food processing, textiles, healthcare, shipping and renewable Energy," the official said.

Officials said that Kenyan government officials said that they are looking at Indian companies to partner for Mombasa Port and Lamu Port.
