Tim Giardina Fired: Counterfeiting Casino Chips Sunk This Admiral's Ship
Vice Admiral Tim Giardina, deputy commander of the United States' nuclear forces, has been relieved of duty amid a naval investigation of claims that he used counterfeit chips at an Iowa casino in June. It may seem excessive to remove the man from his post prior to his conviction, but it is within military protocol and indicates concerns about his fitness for the position.
Giardina allegedly used at least $1500 in fake chips at the Horseshoe Casino. State investigators have decided not to press charges based on his military position and lack of criminal record. They have turned the case over to the Department of Defense.
