USA Today makes the mistake of measuring Chinese trade volume in US Dollars. You can't do that when commodity prices have dropped significantly. It makes a comparison with the previous year's trade volume in US Dollars totally meaningless.

It is necessary to count the TEU (e.g. twenty-foot containers) being exported/imported at Chinese ports to accurately measure the volume of Chinese trade.
