Ashton Carter: U.S. Seeks Weapons Development Ties with India
The United States is looking to carry out a year-old defense trade agreement signed with India by stepping up cooperation in joint production and development of weapons, Reuters reported Thursday.

Andrea Shalal-Esa writes Deputy Defense Sec. Ashton Carter told reporters the deeper defense ties mean technology transfers and priority funding for joint research efforts in science and technology.

This could include collaboration toward producing the next variant of the Javelin, a Lockheed Martin-Raytheon anti-tank missile; and General Atomics' electromagnetic aircraft launcher, EMALS.

U.S. eyes co-development of anti-tank missile with India | Reuters
Asked about India's response, Carter said Indian officials had said they needed time to consider the proposal.

He said U.S. government and industry needed to overcome decades of segregation from their counterparts in India. "We don't have the history that Russia does here, and we're trying to replicate that," he said.

Washington was also offering a new electromagnetic technology for catapulting fighter jets off aircraft carriers called EMALS and built by privately held General Atomics to India, Carter said. Other possible areas of cooperation included counter-terrorism to maritime security.

"There are no boundaries from the U.S. point of view, and as far as I know from the Indian point of view," he said.

Americans can never be trusted.
they installed bugs in tuAF f-16.turkey is a nato member and lapdog of usa and still US installed those bugs.

i'll rather have a obsolete weapon which works when in need then to have an advance weapon which won't work when needed :gangnam:
Get over your irrational leftist anti-Americanism.Trust the Ruskies and get royally screwed with overpriced obsolete technology. It is this kind of thinking that keeps us weak and defenceless. For Gods sake dont underestimate our inteligence.Learn something from the wily and pragmatic Chinese!!!

We have to understand a few things and they cannot be denied,

1. US is still the pre-eminent Economic super power and is going to remain so for a long time to come.

2. They have the largest R&D budget for Defence and will continue to lead the world in producing cutting edge technology. The new found rush for stealth aircraft is an example. The Americans have been operating such aircraft for a long time while the others are just now on the developmental stage.

3. This is not the first time that the US has tried to strike a deep strategic friendship with India and we need to learn the lessons from our spurning it the last time.

4. When we really needed help it were the Americans who fed our country under the PL 480. 40% of the food aid under the PL-480 program between 1955 (the first year of the program) and 1973 was directed towards India. Russians were nowhere in the picture.

So spurning the US offer for help without actually trying it out would be very stupid IMO.

lol, that works too

why can't India have a coherent, long-term, and action-driven foreign policy? China gets frustrated with it because China wants to do business with India, while all India does is dither on this and dither on that. Heck, China is so annoyed it's resorted to poking India with a stick to see if there is any reaction...
India has not forgotten how China helped Pakistan on Nuclear & Missile poliferation... It was the same China who proposed to Pakistan for a joint attack on India in 1963... Brace for more frustration, we will make sure that in future... India will never trust China for its back stabbing...

Do not show your stick... It will be very embarassing if the same stick gets thrust up your back side...
