How about the plight of abused maids by consular officials since this appears to be not the first time? Does the GOI not have a policy of protecting them? And how about polishing the image of India as a country of law-abiding diplomats, does it not matter to the GOI, instead of status conscious social climbers that want the good life in New York but does not have the pocket to actually pay for it?
1)
US is still trying to figure out if the Maid was abused or the maid abused the Legal system of US for getting US citizenship.
GOI has quiet a lot of interest to protect , be it the maid or the Diplomat of other NRI's. The maid already has a case in Indian Jurisdiction loooooooooooong before this incident happened.
Ps: You should start reading lots of prior episodes on this.
As you read various online articles it looks as if US hasnt got it right on human rights. Whats left is an angry pentagon, a goofed up Bharara and confused US State Department and a defunct PR machinery, which puffed and stopped.
2)Various missions across the globe finds it difficult to even sustain an office in US by stipulated laws. Its a very widely known fact from beginning. Arent there other missions doing it, even from including the country you represent. So, these domestic workers are payed according to set and signed contract before even they embark on the flight to Big Apple a.k.a NY.
Is US paying its mission staff according to the US Standards in foreign lands? Nooo..They are not.
C'mon, all these facts are reported all over in news papers from every perspective. About the maide, her big escape, the scandalous way in which US Embassy violated the rules of a soverign nation to ship out the family of the maid by ignoring law of the land.
If you havent read it by now, you are missing a large chunk of information on this episode.
Its not GOI, its the US who has got lots to answer and "polishing the image" in front of the world and get its DOUBLE STANDARDS standadized so that they won't get the foot in the mouth syndrome, again.
Missions from most countries are paying their domestic workers according to the contract set forth between the employee and employer, not necessarliy that set by the US on its soil. Its a practice, acknowledged and even many of the missions are not denying that fact. Cuz if US starts to enforce its laws of the land on missions, then they are stirring up lots and lots of "broader relationships" with developing and developed countries.
Such arrangements are a "Friendly Understanding" between nations.
But..The question is..why did US stirr up this particular "broader relationship" in this case?
Whats the motive? Who is getting benefitted? Is it Bharara's racist card for his political milege to portray himself to be more "Americanised"? (He gave quiet a huge surprise to the white house for the Christmas season with his speech!!, contrasting what the US Statedepartment pouted in a press conference. It was lovely!!!
