Rest of the post- is high on rhetoric and low on qualitative argument. US had no idea of the pak nuclear assets with certainty and when they could verify they sanctioned them, but could not do anymore because Pak had already covertly had built. Should they have been more viligant, hell yaeh. But does that mean you follow up one stupidity with another ? well in your books it may , not in the " sane worlds".
Times are different; they now know and follow the Iranian regime as does the IAEA. The world is at a different place on Nuclear weapons and any country that goes after covert nuclear assets is dealt with similar sanctions. The difference what makes this worse is that you have terrorist supporting, Religious zealots and mullahs running Iran officially -who have made it clear that they will nuke a country based on them being Jews ( and-no pak did not have mullah's running the country- History lesson for you).
