China's new leadership should use "common sense" and seek truth from fact, Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama has said in New York, as he expressed hope for some "indication of change" in approach during Xi Jinping's presidency to bring about harmony and unity in the region. He gave a public talk on Sunday on the 'Virtue of Non-violence' and told a packed theatre of hundreds of followers that he would like to talk with the Chinese government "when the opportunity comes" and stressed that Tibetans are not seeking independence from China but "genuine autonomy".

A top aide to United States President Barack Obama on Monday held talks Monday with Tibet's spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama and voiced support for a peaceful solution with China, officials said, in the first meeting between the two sides in months.

The Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama, who is on a nine-day trip through North America, met in Atlanta with Maria Otero, the under secretary of state for democracy and global affairs who serves as the US coordinator on Tibet.

A State Department official called it a "private discussion on issues of mutual interest" and reiterated the US view that Tibet is part of China.

Taking a jibe at the communist state of China, His Holiness the Dalai Lama has said that instead of questioning Tibetan traditions, it should think of finding reincarnations of its leaders Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping.

"The Communist government does not believe in religion... But they want to conduct finding of the Dalai Lama's reincarnation.

"The Dalai Lama is not political now. If they really care, first they should believe in religion. It would be better if they think of finding the reincarnations of Mao and Deng Xiaoping," the Nobel Peace Prize winner told reporters on reaching Japan Saturday.

So you are saying this new guy will be appointed by the Chinese government as a puppet but he won't be recognized by the Tibetan people.:suspicious:
Won't be recognized by which part of tibetan people? Those within Tibet or those in india?
In history, each generation of Dalai Lama was choosed by a small group of senior Lama and central chinese gov, it was never a choice of Tibetan people.

This is the beauty part of this religion. You can choose your political leader but you can't choose your god king!

BEIJING, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has pledged to enhance political and economic ties with the UK as the latter's Prime Minister, David Cameron, voiced opposition against "Tibet Independence."

"We two countries must insist on mutual respect and equal treatment, understand and take care of each other's major concerns, properly handle sensitive issues and push for more vigor and results in the Chinese-British comprehensive strategic partnership," Li told Cameron during their Monday talks.

Cameron, whose China tour was delayed since his last meeting with the Dalai Lama in May 2012, said Britain respects China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, recognizes Tibet as part of China and does not support "Tibet Independence."

Li suggested the two countries bolster trade and investment, enhance fiscal and financial cooperation, deepen high-tech cooperation, strengthen people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and consolidate communication and cooperation on international and regional issues.

He highlighted China's advantage in nuclear energy and high-speed railway, encouraging China and Britain to tap market potential in the third country.

He urged Britain to stick to its anti-protectionism stance, insist on market transparency and openness, maintain the stability and constance of its investment policy, treat Chinese capital, technology and equipment equally and protect the interests of Chinese investors.

this mornining I bought a Kathmandu Post on the way to Pokhara. a headline caught my attention - Beijing would request Cameron to return treasures Brit. looted from China (perhaps from Summer Palace and Forbidden City). so before he talks anything big he'd better not come empty handed.
