LeT men behind J&K hotel attack gunned down - India - DNA

Stepping up offensive against the ultras, security forces on Monday killed two top Lashkar-e-Toiba commanders, two months after they carried out a attack on a local hotel in Srinagar outskirts in which two bellboys were killed and another had suffered grievous wounds. A police head constable also lost his life in the gun battle in Kulgam district.

Mudasir Ahmad Sheikh alias Mawyia, a district commander of LeT, and Tamim a Pakistani militant were killed in a joint operation launched by the police, 9 Rashtriya Riffles and 18 battalion of CRPF at Dodhipora in Kulgam district of south Kashmir.

“Kulgam police along with 9RR and 18 CRPF launched a joint operation at Dodhipora, Kulgam. The militants fired upon the search party and tried to flee. However, the operational parties chased them and killed both the militants in the open paddy fields,” said a police spokesman A police head constable Niyaz Ahmad also lost his life in the encounter. A huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from the possession of the slain ultras.

Police said both the slain militants were involved in a sensational shoot-out at Hotel Silver Star at Lasjan-Nowgam bypass in Srinagar city outskirts on October19. The militants, who were part of group, had first opened fire at the army convoy and later fired indiscriminately at the staff of a nearby hotel leaving two bellboys dead.

The killing of two commanders on Monday came six days after five top LeT militants were gunned down in the apple-rich township of Sopore. Later on December 20 security forces killed main accused in 2011 Delhi high court blast Chota Hafiz in an encounter at Kishtwar. On Friday police arrested LeT’s “sarpanch killer” from Rajpora Palhalan in north Kashmir.
