Chinese National Arrested in Jalpaiguri with Fake Adhar card

A Chinese national who checked into a hotel in Jalpaiguri in north Bengal by allegedly showing an Aadhaar card, a Nepali citizen who also allegedly possessed fake ID cards and a local businessman were arrested by the police on Sunday night.

All three have been charged with cheating and forgery.

A local court on Monday remanded them to police custody for seven days.

Ye Wang, a Chinese national, Ganesh Bhattarai of Nepal and Bipul Agarwal, a local businessman, have been booked under Foreigners Act, forgery and cheating,” Sunil Kumar Chowdhary, Siliguri police commissioner, said.
I have a hunch, Gorkhaland unrest has a maoist and Chinese connection. Its was not coincidence that Doklam standoff and Gorkhaland agitation coincided at same time.

Chinese national arrested in Patna for violation of prohibition

Patna police arrested a Chinese national identified as Tiandong from a guest house of a Chinese cellphone manufacturing firm located at Alinagar under Gardanibagh police station in Patna on late Sunday evening for violation of prohibition laws enforced in Bihar.

Patna SSP Manu Maharaaj said police were waiting for another Chinese national Wu Chuangyong to return Patna after which he would be arrested too.
Sources said the raid was actually carried out by Patna police after receiving tip-off from central intelligence agencies that some suspected Chinese nationals were holed up in Patna on business visa instead of working visa and were showing themselves as employees of the cellphone firm

We should be more wary of the surveillance done due to their position in smartphone industry. Many are not aware of default transmitted data wrt location and social media.
Forget Smartphone, also via telecom equipments... Airtel and Reliance are heavy users of Chinese telecom equipment. So doesnt matter if you use Chinese phone or not. Atleast Army should establish its own cellular network and ask ECL, BEL to develop telecom equipment at war footing. But I think India will already be far behind China when 5G comes in.

Regarding Smartphone- Indian govt lost golden opportunity to acquire Blackberry when it was in doldrums. they had solid secure os which could have been used to create its own secure phone. In addition they would have had QNX RTOS also. Chinese tried hard to acquire the same but failed.

May not be directly related...
The wa people live near the Myanmar-PRC border. They have their own army. The burmese-wa dynamics seem to revolve around non-interference. Burmese don't interfere in what wa army does in wa region and wa army acknowledges burmese sovereignty.
Unsurprisingly PRC is strongly active (in a covert behind-the-scenes manner) in wa politics and apparently the yuan is even widely used there. Wa army in alliance with PRC use these border regions and other regions for drug trafficking (Golden-triangle) and the money is (partially) diverted to fund terrorist and separatist activities in neighboring regions like IND.
So wouldn't be surprised if PRC operatives or PRC-lingo speaking operatives were sent to Mao heaven in that raid.

Don't know about this specific raid but Naga insurgents in the past have received Chinese help through northern region of Myanmar.

Sorry saw late .. I think I read on quora somewhere.. that Chinese Intel and their comm intercepting equipment were used in attack against 6 Dogra. And the same people were in the camps. Now that you have bought an important angle-- it could very be possible. I wonder why has not India responded with supporting insurgency in Tibet & Xinjiang. Now Xinjinag could be dicey due to India's own reservations against supporting radical islam - however if Godless Commies can support Rabid islamists in Pakistan and insurgency in Kashmir - why not we do the same?

We have indirectly heard about India's espionage depth and exploits in Pakistan. But how much India has been able to penetrate China?

Is China running a secret propaganda operation with journalists in India?
2 min read . Updated: 29 Mar 2023, 06:43 AM IST

There are offers to pay $400 (nearly ₹33,000) to write one article.

China has been accused of running a secret propaganda operation in India, after journalists and researchers in the country were approached by people claiming to be from Singapore-based institutions with offers to cooperate on projects or to write articles on security and foreign policy.

The individuals, who were mainly contacted via email, direct messages on LinkedIn, Facebook, or WhatsApp, focused on topics such as India-China relations, India-Japan ties, or the Indo-Pacific region. The offers of payment for articles ranged up to $400 (nearly ₹33,000).

Inquiries in Singapore have established that at least two of the people who contacted Indian journalists and researchers – Julia Chia, a “senior programme manager" with the National University of Singapore (NUS), and Jian Qiang Wong, a “researcher" at the Singapore Institute of International Affairs (SIIA) – do not exist. The matter has been taken seriously in Singapore as NUS and SIIA have ties to the government of the city-state.

Indian security officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, say the method used by people such as Chia and Wong points to similar influence operations conducted by China in other countries, such as Australia, Canada, and the US.

“These people are looking for the kind of writing which is often induced by the Chinese State to create a narrative in its favour. They target people who have an understanding of strategic affairs or those who they think can publish or push views which favour China’s interests," the Hindustan Times quoted one official as saying.

Wong’s contacts on LinkedIn included researchers from leading Delhi-based think tanks focusing on security and military issues and retired army and navy officials, including officers of the rank of major general and vice admiral, and those who have handled issues such as defence acquisition and offsets. People familiar with the matter say it is clear Wong focused on people who had access to sensitive information.

Most of the journalists and researchers who were approached became suspicious as emails sent to them after preliminary contacts didn’t come from the official email IDs of NUS, SIIA or the other organisations that the people approaching them had claimed to work for. One Indian journalist working for a foreign publication who spoke to the person making the approach received an email from a Yahoo ID though the person claimed to work for the US-based consultancy International Development Corporation (IDC).

Ajai Sahni, executive director of the Institute of Conflict Management, said he was not surprised by the developments as they fit in with the global pattern for China’s influence operations to force Beijing’s point of view.

According to Sahni, China has been nurturing regional opinion leaders in all possible locations. If they had more autonomy like some of the nearby nations, China would have established friendship organisations that would openly promote China's stance on topics that concern them. China's strategy documents mandate that its private organisations and NGOs must support the CPC's goals worldwide.
