Book Review: The Duel --Interesting revelations by Tariq Ali
can you plz elaborate on bolded part wrt connection between indira gandhi's assasination and CIA???
You have to keep in mind that this is a Pakistani beauracrat's speculation.
The main premise was that these leaders were working on the basis of SAARC and armies of all three countries had links with the UK MI and US CIA. Mujeeb was avowedly leftist and anti-US because of their overt support to Pakistan. Indira was obviouly opposed to the US as well. The case with Zia was that he was intially pro-US but later on moved to an anti-US stance. Interestingly there is also mention that Zia was opposed to using extremists from Afghanistan in Kashmir because he believed that it would only bring problems for Kashmiris when Indians retaliate.
The other thing to note about SAARC formation is that Zia, Indira and other south asian leaders were just forming this block in the late 70s and 80s. So maybe he was hinting at that.
Again let me emphasise that this is sepculation of some senior beurcrat in Pakistan. No proven facts that this is the case.
In that sense Every leader's death on subcontinent right from nehru, shahtri, indira, bhutto, zia, rajiv, benazir can be look with tint of suspicion of conspiracy by the british and american intelligence.coz most of the leaders died at the crucial juncture of their countries which could ve changed the course of respective country.
