Pakistan’s largest telescope brings outer space down to Earth

A poster at the institute depicts an astronaut in space.

The country’s largest telescope has been installed in an observatory in the capital’s Institute of Space Technology.

Dr Fazeel Mehmood Khan connects the telescope to a computer, to capture images of a galaxy.

The telescope rotates through machines, and is connected to a computer.

“The telescope is the largest functional one in the country, with a 0.4 meter mirror, and observes outer space, the Milky Way and adjoining galaxies,” said Waqas Zubairi, a research assistant at the Institute of Space Technology.
lol !!this is their largest telescope ..

amateurs astronomers in US & EU have bigger and better telescopes..

here is the link of the manufacturer of the telescope(US based comp).I bet they bought it online ..probably on an ebay auction

Common buddy........... Its not that bad and lets not troll them for something good they have done. Atleast now they would be convinced that moon can't be broken into half and then be joined again.

It's at best worth $20,000. And It's a good Telescope, but it's made for amateurs, some features it has are pretty good. But what amazes me is this is the largest Telescope they have? Last year there was a meteor shower, I went with few of my friends out for photographing it in a national park. The Telescope my friend used on that day was very similar to this one. A bit cheaper of course.

You are too optimistic. Even if they manage to land on the moon their belief wont change.

Bad pedagogy is all over. For example, a terrible way of teaching about surface tension is to begin with “surface tension comes because a skin is created on the surface of a liquid by attraction of molecules”. Now, no one has ever seen a molecule with a naked eye, much less seen one attracting the other. A student who learns it this way has not learnt anything at all.
http://tribune.com.pk/story/338730/why-are-pakistani-students-science-phobic/

Let’s take a quick browse through a current 10th grade physics book.
The introductory section has the customary holy verses. These are followed by a comical overview of the history of physics. Newton and Einstein — the two greatest names — are unmentioned:rofl:. Instead there’s Ptolemy the Greek, Al-Kindi, Al-Beruni, Ibn-e-Haytham, A.Q. Khan, and — amusingly — the heretical Abdus Salam.

The end-of-chapter exercises test the mettle of students with such questions as: Mark true/false; A) The first revelation sent to the Holy Prophet (PBUH) was about the creation of Heaven?
:rofl:B) The pin-hole camera was invented by Ibn-e-Haytham? C) Al-Beruni declared that Sind was an underwater valley that gradually filled with sand? D) Islam teaches that only men must acquire knowledge?

See this is what is the paki science!!! and SUPARCO is what came out of it..

pakis have to be trolled for the sake of humanity and progress!

Even if they manage to land on the moon.
Even if SUPARCO starts today with own SLV, it would take at least two decades at best to have something like PSLV, 3-4 more to be as launch capable as India is today. Landing on Moon may even overshoot first quarter of twenty second century. Meanwhile, India can easily do that in second or third quarter of this century.

By then India and China will sell pslv type vehicles just like custom made cars.:biggrin2:
And there will be no cost benefit in development for Pakistan.

Paki space program is another Market in waiting for china to capture :frog:

Pakistan's PRSS-1 Prelude During World Space Week

Pakistan is all set to launch the nation's first remote sensing satellite in 2018, currently in development stages, according to Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) chairperson Qaiser Anees Khurram on Monday.

Khurram was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of World Space Week, organized by Suparco at National Center for Remote Sensing and Geo Informatics. While giving details, Khurram said that with the successful launch of Pakistan Remote Sensing Satellite (PRSS-1), Pakistan will achieve yet another milestone by achieving self-reliance in the observation of Earth through satellite remote sensing.
PRSS-1 will be used to monitor China Pakistan Economic Corridor projects, federal development minister Ahsan Iqbal had announced in Islamabad this April on the occasion of signing of an agreement between Suparco and the China Great Wall Industry Cooperation. Speaking about the World Space Week, Khurram said they are among the 80 countries that are celebrating this week to pay tribute to how the international space industry has helped make lives better.
Referring to this year’s theme, Remote Sensing: Enabling our Future, he said the theme elaborates the significance of Earth Observation (EO) from space for the betterment of the human race. The theme also focuses on the benefits of remote sensing and the use of satellite imagery which will stimulate market growth and revolutionize how these powerful tools can have a positive impact on human life in the future, Khurram added.
I'm correcting that all again, it's not Pakistan who's launching satellite but PRC launching a Pakistani Satellite.

Space technology for growth
November 07, 2016
It is very commendable to note that the Punjab Government is going to use space technology applications for accelerating economic growth processes as well as for exploration of minerals and preparation of forests inventory in the province.
According to reports this is going to be done by the Provincial Government in collaboration with SPACE and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission(SU-PARCO) Pakistan.
A high level meeting held recently in this regard was informed that SU-PARCO would soon be launching its own Remote Sensing Satellite through which a local research engine will also be operated as a result of that Goggle Earth will be replaced and our own institutions will acquire capability of utilizing the most accurate the most geological information through enhanced high-resolution satellites free of cost.
While lauding the Provincial Government for using space technology for development purposes, it is requested to accelerate the process of collaboration with SUPARCO so that the province can draw benefits for the above-mentioned objectives at the earliest, please.
Hopefully, the needful will be done for giving the much welcome collaboration between a national institution and the provincial government in a speedy manner.

From Wikipedia:
Space programme 2040
The Space Programme 2040 included the development of five GEO satellites and six LEO satellites to replace Suparco's existing satellites in the orbit.[3] There are no plans for development of a Launch vehicle, and the programme is entirely intended to launch more communication and remote sensing satellites from other countries.[5] In 11 August, the Suparco launched the Paksat-IR, as first satellite as part of this programme.[4][6]
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_programme_2040#cite_note-5
If true, Pakistani Satellite Launch Vehicle Project is dead.
