Su-57 firing a KH-59 mk2 missile in Syria.

Soon a complete analysis of that weapon.

IMO we really should go for a initial limited no of Su-57s, since overall the design goal of it seems to be to counter other 5th gen planes like F-22 and F-35 with the help of new sensors like side mounted radar, better sensor fusion, and supermaneuverability and superior kinematic performance at the cost of all-aspect stealth.

IAF could use Su-57 for air superiority missions against J-20 and J-31s, while AMCA development could focus on all-aspect stealth primarily and kinematic performance secondary.

For air superiority, you need high stealth so that you are invisible to enemy radar while your enemy is visible to your radar. Unless you plan on dogfight, which is rare today, supermaneuverability is not the primary goal

That's one school of thought - Remain fully stealthy, and launch BVR weapons undetected. The russian school of thought crudely seems to be of not too mindful of being seen but having the capability of detecting and degrading the performance of enemy platforms and it's weapons.

Which one would prevail on the battlefield, with every other variable being equal, no one knows. No one wages a fair war just to validate a concept or specific doctrine.

Could Turkey go for the Su-57 if US blocks F-35 deliveries?

A Turkish newspaper reported that the country might turn toward Russia for stealth jets if the National Defense Authorization Act, or NDAA bill is finalized later this year.

The NATO-member is at loggerheads with the US for the sale of S-400 SAM systems, which resulted in US senators threatening to introduce a clause in the NDAA bill to stop the deliveries of the stealth jet.

Turkey can buy Russian Su-57 fighters instead of American F-35 fighters, Yeni Safak newspaper reports with reference to sources.

Turkey can take such a decision if the United States blocks the supply of F-35 because of the country's purchase of Russian anti-aircraft missile systems S-400.

"Ankara does not intend to give up its right to aircraft, which it should receive in June," the article reads.

In December 2017, Turkey and Russia signed a loan agreement for the S-400. Ankara will buy two batteries of air defense systems, which will be serviced by Turkish personnel. The parties also agreed on technological cooperation in the field of development of S-400 production in Turkey.

The US and NATO representatives have repeatedly criticized Ankara for this deal. Thus, Assistant Secretary of State Wess Mitchell stated that the purchase of the S-400 could adversely affect the supply of American F-35s to Turkey. Mevlut Cavusoglu, the head of the Turkish Foreign Ministry, promised that Ankara would retaliate against Washington if the deliveries of the fighters were blocked.

Su 57 is evolving into a future fighter. So some countries will definitely jump into its bandwagon because they know it's only the cheaper and comparable alternative to f22. Therefore, India shouldn't let it slip away from its palm. A lot of business opportunity is also at stakes in this program. Because those who are denied f35 or can't just afford to buy it will also be ready to join the fray.

Turkey can only afford it if it comes with military aid. With the collapsing lira and the recent increase in the repo rate by 850 basis points it doesn't look likely they can secure funding. Buying it will have grave consequences to the Turkish economy that is already under heavy pressure without sanctions.

As I've heard, the programme FGFA won't be completed due to the incorformity of stealth and avionics requirements.
It's not yet clear exactly, whether it will be completed or not, but nevertheless it's clear, that it's currently postponed.
Speaking about cooperation with Russia, only the programm for the S-400 procurement is stable and likely to be done for sure in the nearest perspective.

According to India's Ambassador in Moscow, negotiations related to the fifth generation fighter aircraft (FGFA) project are still underway.

Su 57 Intercepted F35
**********************

According to information provided by the Chinese network newspaper "East Day", on June 11, 2018 Russian Su-57 fighters, taking off from the Russian military air base "Khmeimim", intercepted the Israeli fighter F-35I Adir, which flew extremely close to the border of Syria from Lebanon . Earlier this was already reported by the portal Avia.pro, but today it was reported that it was the first air interception between the Russian fifth-generation fighter aircraft and F-35 fighters.

As you know, the Israeli fighter F-35 had to retreat and return to the airspace of Israel, but experts have already called the first clash between the fifth-generation aircraft a landmark event.

"Given the fact that the Israeli pilots had to retreat, the functionality of the F-35 is not as great as reported by the Pentagon and the Ministry of Defense of Israel. It is likely that the Israeli F-35 was testing Russian and Syrian air defense systems, but no official statements have been made about this yet , "experts conclude.

It should be clarified that the incident itself occurred around midnight, while no aggressive actions by either Israel or Russia were noted.

Experts do not rule out that in the near future Israel will once again try to seize the opportunity to penetrate Syrian airspace using fifth-generation fighters, which will demonstrate the high capabilities of these aircraft and will test them for the first time in real combat conditions, but modern Russian air defense systems may well knock down F -35, which will be a serious failure for an expensive program to create these fighters.

Hogwash. Not even outrageous Russian propaganda outlets Sputnik and RT are reporting this outlandish claim.

4 X-59MK2 in the T-50 compartments !

...Two Su-57 prototypes, T-50-9 and T-50-11, were deployed to Syria for two days on February 21 this year. A little earlier, in January, the head of the Tactical Missiles Corporation, Boris Obnosov, told the TASS news agency that the first firing tests of new armament with the T-50 were ‘not far away’.

Shoygu didn’t name the missile launched from the Su-57, presenting only low-quality footage showing the launch of a large missile from the aft internal weapons bay. The Su-57 weapon appears most similar to the Raduga Kh-59MK2. The Kh-59MK2 (this is the export designation as the Russian name is not known) is similar to the MBDA Storm Shadow, intended to destroy small, hardened targets of known co-ordinates.
