SU-30MKI VS RAFALE

I am reading many posts in the forum criticising rafale.They are comparing the two warplanes and their capabilities and questioning the IAF order for buying Rafales and not to go with the option to buy more SU-30MKI And upgrading all of them.So i think there should be a discussion on why to or not to buy Rafales instead of More SU-30MKI And Upgrading them.

Thats a good question.

Actually the IAF needs more western aircrafts for better technology in terms of radar and avionics. Its mostly to have an technology edge over China and pork.

The other reason is to improve our own technology know how while getting TOT.

That said the Su-30mki is also high maintinance as it is notorious for sucking up stuff from the runway while take off. Its too much high maintinance.

Your question is good because i too wonder why not just by western avionics from israeil and revamp Mig-29s.

Why not get a russian plane manufactured from HAL, put western engine like GE used in LCA and use our own software with Israeli avions,
