Su-30МКМ fighter to be equipped with BrahMos missiles for Malaysian tender

At present specialists are working on integration of BrahMos missiles with Su-30МКМ fighter, RIA Novosti reports. It has been stated by the Deputy Director General of Rosoboronexport, Victor Komardin.

Su-30МКМ will take part in Malaysian tender on acquisition of 18 fighters for the country's air forces. According to the Malaysian Ministry of Defense, Russia is among front-runners of the tender.

"Will we have time to make such missile for the first batch of Su-30MKMs, taking part in the tender, or not - it is the matter of testing", - said Komardin, the head of Russian delegation at LIMA-2011 in Malaysia.

According to him, the main thing is to avoid the impact of such integration on the operation of aircraft systems.

He also added that the research and development work on creation of air-launched BrahMos missile is underway. Such work is carried out in cooperation with Indian specialists. Sea-launched BrahMos missiles have already been developed.

Along with versions of BrahMos missiles launched from aircraft and submarines, it may also be launched from ships and ground mobile launchers – these models have already been passed into service by Indian navy and army.

Su-30 and its modifications are very popular in South-East Asia. They are operated by Vietnam, India, Indonesia, Malaysia and China.

Russia has delivered 18 MiG-29 fighters to Malaysia in 1994-1995. The next contract on delivery of 18 Su-30MKM fighters has been completed in 2009. In addition, 12 Mi-171Sh military transport helicopters have been delivered to Malaysia.
