Asalamualaikum Wa Rakhmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu.. Hoping that everybody is in the best of health and Imaan Inshallah!!...
Here is some information regarding the rewards of Reciting Durood Shareefs!!

>>The message of Allah Ta'ala to Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sall Allahu 'alaihi wa Salim) has come down to us in the form of the Holy Quran and the teachings of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sall Allahu 'alaihi wa Salim) have reached us in the form of the Ahadith. Let us see what both the Holy Quran and Ahadith say about Durood Shareef (Salawat):

"Innal llaha wa Malaa'ikatahu Yu salluna allan nabiyi.
Ya Ayyuhal lazeena aamanu sallu alaihi wasallimu tasleema." (Surah Ai-Ahzab, Verse 56)

Almighty Allah says: "Surely Allah and His Angels send blessings on the Holy Prophet (Sall Allahu 'alaihi wa Salim). O you who believe! Send Blessings (Durood) and Salutations (Salaams) on the Prophet with worthy Salutation". (Surah al-Ahzab: 56)

In this verse of the Holy Quran, Almighty Allah, His Malaa'ikah and the Muslims have been mentioned as sending Durood upon Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sall Allahu 'alaihi wa Salim). So, Durood Shareef is actually "a Du'a in praise of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Sall Allahu 'alaihi wa Salim)."

Hazrat Anas (radi Allahu anhu) narrates that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sall Allahu 'alaihi wa Salim) said: "He who reads a single Durood upon me, Almighty Allah blesses him ten times, ten of his sins are forgiven, and he is increased ten times in stages (internally). (Mishkaat)

Hazrat Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (radi Allahu anhu) also narrates that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sall Allahu 'alaihi wa Salim) said: "On the Day of Qiyamah, the closest to me from among the people will be those who have read the most amount of Durood Shareef". (Tirmidhi)

>>Divine blessings on Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sall Allahu 'alaihi wa Salim) is the highest and the most meritorious act in our Deen. This "Divine Blessings" is called Durood Shareef.

When Almighty Allah sends Durood and Salaams upon Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sall Allahu 'alaihi wa Salim), He is actually blessing him. When the Malaa'ikah and the Muslims send Durood and Salaams to Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sall Allahu 'alaihi wa Salim), they are actually showing Almighty Allah their respect for the Holy Prophet (Sall Allahu 'alaihi wa Salim).
Muslims hope that, through the blessings of the Durood and Salaams, Almighty Allah will forgive them of their sins and increase their status in this world and in the Aakirah. The Malaa'ikah hope that Almighty Allah will increase their status.

Durood is a sure means of Allah Ta'ala granting blessings, peace, prosperity and favours of great magnitude on one who recites Durood Shareef on the Holy Prophet (Sall Allahu 'alaihi wa Salim). The reciter of Durood Shareef receives all the benefits in this world and utmost gain in the next world with addition to the love of the Holy Prophet (Sall Allahu 'alaihi wa Salim).

The invocation of Blessings on the Holy Prophet (Sall Allahu 'alaihi wa Salim) is styled in Arabic as "Salawat", in Persian as "Durood", and in Urdu as "Salawat-o-Salaam".

The regular recitation of Durood Shareef on Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sall Allahu 'alaihi wa Salim) lifts up our hearts on to a plane of comprehension where we gaze in our new found peace and moral armour.

The reciter of Durood Shareef will, after some time, come to realize by himself that it is the spontaneous outpouring of his heart before the Great Prophet (Sall Allahu 'alaihi wa Salim) of Islam, whose love and attachment is needed to get all the present day problems solved and obtain mercy in the next world.

The more Durood Shareef we recite, the greater the gain and benefit will be achieved in both the worlds. Hazrat Shaikh-e-Akbar Mo'inuddin ibn Arabi (radi Allahu anhu) has stated that, "Those who claim to love and revere the Holy Prophet (Sall Allahu 'alaihi wa Salim) should increase their recital of the Durood Shareef in patience and perseverance until, through the mercy of Rasoolullah (Sall Allahu 'alaihi wa Salim), they have the opportunity of witnessing his blessed countenance".

The special and exclusive aspect of this prayer is that Durood Shareef is immediately accepted by Allah Ta'ala. No one can doubt its acceptance, as Durood Shareef is being recited by Allah Ta'ala too. Not only this, but He has revealed this secret in the Holy Quran by saying:

"Wara fa'na laka zikrah " (Surah Al-Inshirah, V-4) ."
Translation: "And We have exalted for you your remembrance"

Muslims are a very fortunate people. Allah Ta'ala chose for them the name of Islam as a religion, declared to be comprehensive and final for mankind. The person chose to deliver this message in this specific form and extra-ordinary style of love and hope was the most beloved of Allah Ta'ala and became the Light of Divinity to be shed upon the entire universe. This Light devastated all the domains of darkness and depression. By reciting Durood Shareef (Salawat) we invite Light and drive away all darkness from our inner soul. Our mind becomes soft and love saturated. If there is softness in everything, it tends beauty to it. People become ugly owing to lack of this essential beauty of the inner part of the mind. This ugliness cannot be glossed over by any amount of cosmetics. It is the Durood Shareef on the Holy Prophet (Sall Allahu 'alaihi wa Salim) which works wonders.

In the same manner, the Holy Prophet (Sall Allahu 'alaihi wa Salim) taught us Durood Shareef to attain salvation, perfect peace and maximum gain in this world as well as the next. The soul is the soil where the faith of Allah is to be implanted firmly and faithfully which requires continuous recitation of Durood Shareef to thrive and flourish.

We have been told by Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sall Allahu 'alaihi wa Salim) that Durood Shareef is itself Light and when Light enters the soul every aspiration is achieved and every goal is won. Nothing remains thereafter to worry about.

Human spirit today is depressed everywhere and mankind has come to the edge of destruction, decay and devastation. Everyone is engulfed in untold miseries and tragedies of a very great magnitude. Troubles and tortures, pain, poverty, hunger, ill-health, frustrations and accidents have broken the back of a human being. All this can evaporate with the recitation of Durood Shareef on the Holy Prophet (Sall Allahu 'alaihi wa Salim) who has clearly proclaimed that Durood Shareef is the panacea of all ills and that if any one comes across a calamity he should recite Durood Shareef in the maximum number. Allah Ta'ala has promised that if anyone recites Durood only once, He showers ten blessings on the reciter immediately.

It is narrated that once Hazrat Musa (alaihis salaam) walked a very long distance in the desert during summer at noon. He fainted due to thirst and hunger. After a while, when he regained his consciousness, Allah Ta'ala sent Hazrat Jibrael (alaihis salaam) to go and inquire from Hazrat Musa (alaihis salaam) if he was thirsty or not. Hazrat Musa (alaihis salaam) replied that he was thirsty. Allah Ta'ala told him that the thirst on the Day of Judgement will be a million times more than what Hazrat Moosa (alaihis salaam) experienced. Hazrat Musa (alaihis salaam) was told that if he wished to get rid of that thirst on the hottest Day of Judgement, he would have to do one thing. When Hazrat Musa (alaihis salaam) enquired as to what should be done, Allah Ta'ala told him that he should recite Durood Shareef in abundance on His last Prophet, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sall Allahu 'alaihi wa Salim). Hazrat Musa (alaihis salaam) thanked Allah Ta'ala and immediately began reciting Durood Shareef on the Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sall Allahu 'alaihi wa Salim).

From the above fact it is quite clear that Allah Ta'ala has given orders even to his Ambiya to recite Salawat on the last and final Prophet of Islam, and that Durood Shareef is not only panacea and a solution to the ills of this world but in the next too.
In another story, it is narrated that when Hazrat Adam (alaihis salaam) saw Bibi Hawa (radi Allahu anha) he wanted to be close to her, but Allah Ta'ala sent Hazrat Jibrael (alaihis salaam) to stop him. Allah Ta'ala told him that if he wanted to take Bibi Hawa (radi Allahu anha) as his wife, he should first pay Mahr (dowry). On his inquiry as to what the Mahr was, Allah Ta'ala told Hazrat Jibrael (alaihis salaam) to inform him that the best way of paying the dowry is for him to recite Durood Shareef 3 times on His last Prophet, Hazrat Muhammad (Sall Allahu 'alaihi wa Salim). Hazrat Adam (alaihis salaam) did so, Bibi Hawa (radi Allahu anha) was granted to him as his legal and legitimate wife.

The highest blessings which Islam has conferred on man is the concept of Tauheed or Unity of Allah in its purest form. This has been furnished to mankind through Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sall Allahu 'alaihi wa Salim), the last of the Prophets. It is a cardinal duty of every Muslim man and woman, young and old to entertain the highest respect, regard, love and esteem for the Prophet (Sall Allahu 'alaihi wa Salim) and his family. It should be clear that obedience to Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sall Allahu 'alaihi wa Salim) is always to be charged with intense love and highest regard for him, for it is through love and esteem that truth can be comprehended and communion with the Creator can be vouch-safed. In fact, love is the motive force, reverence dissolves and implicit obedience to the Prophet (Sall Allahu 'alaihi wa Salim) which is the natural outcome. It is therefore incumbent on those who love him, to pray to Allah Ta'ala and His Angels in wishing for him peace according to the Divine Command. This will reshape the life which is otherwise infested with turmoil. The reciter will get countless and matchless benefits in both the Worlds and can claim to be the lover of Holy Prophet (Sall Allahu 'alaihi wa Salim).

As Muslims we should recite Durood Shareef in the Arabic language. Islam seeks to create a unified outlook and it is in the Arabic language alone which welds all Muslims into one great brotherhood. Besides, Arabic is the language of Heaven, it is the language of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sall Allahu 'alaihi wa Salim), it is the language of the Angels and it is the language of Hazrat Abu-Bakr, Hazrat Umar, Hazrat Uthman and Hazrat Ali (radi Allahu Anhumma).

The daily recitation of Durood Shareef has a tremendous effect on the human head, heart, mind and person. It purifies thoughts and intensifies actions. It makes passages for perfect peace and personal satisfaction.

Statements Of Distinguished Personalties Concerning Durood Shareef
Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddique (radi Allahu anhu) said "The reading of the Durood Shareef obliterates sins as water obliterates fire. ayyiduna Allama Hulaimi (alaihir rahmah) has stated that,

"To honour Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) is the path of Imaan. The status of reverence is much loftier than affection. Therefore, as we have affection of our parents, children and friends, we should have a much loftier degree of reverence for Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam)".

He then proceeded to quote from the Quran and Ahadith and stated further, "This was the practise of the Sahaba for they had witnessed Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) with their very own eyes. Among the ethics of our times is that whenever we hear or see the name of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam), we read the Durood Shareef".

He has stated further, "Even the Malaa'ikah send Durood and Salaam upon Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) to gain the closeness of the Almighty Allah. "Durood Shareef is the Wazifa which can accomplish for the seeker closeness to Almighty Allah even without a Spiritual Guide. The Satan can mislead one if one recites other Wazifas without a Spiritual Guide. But a man cannot be misguided by reading the Durood Shareef as the Spiritual Guide at that time is Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam). When this is the case, the Satan has no chance of misleading the reciter".

c. We should increase the recitation of Durood Shareef because Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) is our means of achieving success in the Hereafter.
Sayyiduna Allama Uqlaishi (alaihir rahmah) has stated that,

"Which is that deed which can be a means of entering Jannah and makes a person achieve great benefit? It is indeed the recital of the Durood Shareef! The Durood Shareef is a magnificent light and a trade which has no loss. The distinguished Saints have made this their daily practice. Therefore, O Seeker, hold firm to the Durood Shareef. Through it, your encounters will become clean, your deeds will become pure and your wishes will be granted. Through the Durood Shareef you will also be safe from the agony of Qiyamah".
Sayyiduna Allama Iraaq (alaihir rahmah) has stated that,

"O Seeker! Increase the recital of the Durood Shareef upon the Leader of all leaders. The Durood Shareef saves one from great calamities and achieves for one great blessings. Through the recital of a single Durood Shareef, you will receive ten Blessings from Almighty Allah and ten of your sins will be forgiven. You will also increase in status ten times and the Malaa'ikah will plead for your forgiveness".

Qasida Burdah

(The poem of the scarf)

The reason for writing this poem

The writer HAZRAT IMAAM SAALIH SHARA-FUD-DEEN ABU ABDULIAH MUHAMMAD BIN HASAN AL-BUSAIRI Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu had become paralysed. His doctors and physicians gave up all hope of his recovery. Eventually in this state of complete helplessness and despair he composed this poem expressing the grandeur and excellence of Sayyidina Rasuluallah Sallallhu Alayhi Wasallam. Using this as his sole means of asking Allah Ta'alaa to cure him from his illness. He isolated himself in a quiet place one Thursday night and with complete devotion, concentration and sincerity/ began reciting this poem. While reciting it sleep overcame him. He had a vision of Sayyidina Rasuluallah Sallallhu Alayhi Wasallam. He told Sayyidina Rasuluallah Sallallhu Alayhi Wasallam of his illness whereupon Sayyidina Rasuluallah Sallallhu Alayhi Wasallam passed his blessed hand over Imam Busairi Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu's body. Through the barakat and blessing of Sayyidina Rasuluallah Sallallhu Alayhi Wasallam Allah Ta'alaa granted him complete cure from his paralysis. When he awoke he found a scarf or shawl on his body which he had seen Sayyidina Rasuluallah Sallallhu Alayhi Wasallam place on his paralysed limbs. This resulted in the poem being named "Qasidah Burdah" (The Poem of the Scarf).

In the morning when due to some necessity. he went to the bazaar, a pious dervish greeted him with salaam and requested him to recite the qasidah which he had composed in praise of Sayyidina Rasuluallah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam. The poet said that I have composed many poems in praise of Rasuluallah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam, which one do you wish to hear? The dervish replied: 'The one which begins with, A-min Tazak-kurin (i.e. Qasidah Burdah)". Upon this request the poet became wonder struck and said, "I take an oath that no one knows about this poem. Tell me the truth, from whom did you hear about it?" The dervish replied, "I take an oath by Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala that I heard it from you last night when in a dream you had recited it to Sayyidina Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam, whereupon Sayyidina Rasuluallah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam became attentive towards you and because of its blessings Allah Ta'alaa granted you complete cure from your ailment".

When the poet gave this poem to the dervish his secret became known to all the people and its barakat and blessings too became general for all.

When this poem reached Baha-ud-deen the governor of the country named Tahir, he so highly regarded and respected it that he would stand while listening to it.

It is also narrated that Sa'aadud-deen Farouqi, who was a viceroy of Baha-ud-deen, had became blind. In a dream he saw a pious person who told him to take the Qasidah Burdah from Baha-ud-deen and place it on his eyes. In the morning he told Baha-ud-deen about this dream. The Qasidah Burdah was brought and with full sincerity and conviction Sa'aadud-deen placed it on his eyes. Through its barakat Allah Ta'alaa granted him complete cure and restored his eyesight.

Miracles Attributed To Reading The Durood Shareef

1. Once in India an Aalim had passed away and it was observed that for one month sweet fragrance used to arise from his bed and from his entire house. People enquired about this mystery. His son-in-law said that the Aalim used to recite Durood Shareef every Friday night in his house. The fragrance was as a result of the recitation to the Durood Shareef.

2. In another incident, a calligrapher died. His family members saw him, who was a great sinner, after his death in their dream sitting in Heaven with full pomp and dignity. On enquiry, he said that he gained all these benefits because he used to write Durood whenever the name of the Holy Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) used to appear.

3. Shaikh Zardaq (radi Allahu anhu) says that when the writer of the book of Durood Shareef died, for one month the fragrance of flowers used to arise from his grave.

4. It is reported in "Rahhatul Quloob" that once there was a Sultan who became very ill. Six months passed by without any cure in sight. A few people went to the Sultan and told him that Hadrat Sheikh Abu Bakr Shibli (radi Allahu anhu) had arrived in the city. The Sultan requested the great Saint to visit and and to make Du'a for his health. Sheikh Abu Bakr Shibli (radi Allahu anhu) visited the Sultan on his request for he knew that the Sultan was very generous to his subjects and that he was also a very pious person. When Sheikh Abu Bakr Shibli (radi Allahu anhu) sat next to the bed of the Sultan, he assured the Sultan that he would recover very soon. Sheikh Abu Bakr Shibli (radi Allahu anhu) then recited a few Durood Shareefs and passed his hands along the body of the Sultan. A few minutes later, the Sultan awoke as if from a dream. He felt as if he had never been sick.

5. In Egypt, there lived a pious man whose name was Abu Said Khayyat. He used to remain isolated from the rest of the world. After some years, people saw him sitting in the company of a great person, Hadrat Ibni Rashiq (radi Allahu anhu). The people of the town were astonished and enquired about his presence. He disclosed that the Holy Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) told him in a dream to associate himself with the meetings of Hadrat Ibni Rashiq since in quite a large number of Durood Shareef was recited in his meetings.
. One day a person from among the Bani Isra'il passed away. The people refused to bury him. They threw his body on a rubbish heap. They all considered him to be a great sinner.

At that moment, Hadrat Musa (alaihis salaam) received the Revelation from Allah Ta'ala, "O Musa! One of my chosen slaves has passed away. The Bani Isra'il have thrown his body on a rubbish heap. Command your people to retrieve the body. Bath him and give him a proper burial".What Hadrat Nabi Musa (alaihis salaam) saw that person, he immediately recognised him. Obeying the Commands of Almighty Allah, Nabi Musa (alaihis salaam) then proceeded to give the person a proper bath and burial. Upon completion of this task, he asked Allah Ta'ala the reason for such an unusual command. Allah Ta'ala said: "O Musa! You are correct when you say that this person was a sinner. According to My Divine Command he was entitled to punishment. However, one day, while he was reading the Taurah, he came across the name of My beloved Habeeb Muhammad Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam . He then kissed the name and sent salutations upon My Habeeb Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam . It is due to this action of his, O Musa, that I have blessed him with Jannah".

7. Hadrat Sufyan bin Aienna (radi Allahu anhu) says that Hadrat Khalaf (radi Allahu anhu) had a friend who was a student of Islamic Law. One day, all of a sudden, he died and Hadrat Khalaf (radi Allahu anhu) saw him in his dream on the same night. It was seen that this student of Islamic Law was sitting on the throne of honour, pomp and dignity, clad in beautiful golden clothes.

Hadrat Khalaf (radi Allahu anhu) inquired about this exclusive and extraordinary honour. The student said that this was all because of his loud recitation of Durood Shareef at the time when the Prophet's (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) name was mentioned during the tuition of his Islamic Law studies. Allah Ta'ala counted the Durood Shareef as well as the sins. Every Durood Shareef that was recited loudly was millions of times bigger and heavier than all the sins. So the Salawat (Durood) won all this.
8. Hadrat Abi Sulaiman (radi Allahu anhu) says that he saw his father, who was a great sinner, in a dream after his death. Much to his great surprise, his father was in an excellent position in Heaven. When Hadrat Abi Sulaiman (radi Allahu anhu) inquired about that great reward, his father told him that it was all due to the recitations of Durood Shareef over the name of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) at a time when the name was written in the books.

9. Hadrat Kaab Ahbar (radi Allahu anhu), a great scholar of the Taurat says: "Allah revealed to Hadrat Musa (alaihis salaam) saying, 'O Musa, if on this earth there were no such people to glorify and praise Me, I shall not cause one drop of water to descend from the Heavens, and I shall not cause one seed to grow ...' and he mentioned several other things and then said, 'O Musa, do you desire to be nearer to Me than speech is to your tongue, or thought is to your heart, or nearer than your soul to your body, or nearer than your eyesight to your eyes?' Musa (alaihis salaam) replied: 'Yes, indeed, O Allah!'. Allah Ta'ala said: 'Then recite much Salawat on the Rasool Muhammad (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam)'."

10. It is written in "Nuzhat-ul-Majalis" that a man fell sick and was about to die. He was shivering and fearing the tortures of the grave and the tortures of the Day of Judgement. All of a sudden, a pious man caught hold of his hand and told him that he should be perfectly at ease as the Durood Shareef which he had recited in abundance during his life time is certainly to come to his rescue. The man, thereafter, died very peacefully.

11. Once, a passenger bus travelling from Mir Purkhas to Hyderabad, Pakistan, collided with a truck loaded with heavy machinery tools. About 120 passengers were travelling in that bus and all but one of the passengers was badly injured. That one man was reciting Durood Shareef on the Holy Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) at the time of the collision. When the journalist and the members of the police team later interviewed this man, he disclosed that he was constantly reciting Durood on Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) and Allah Ta'ala saved him. A similar incident took place in a bus travelling from Karachi to Hyderabad.
12. Abu Hafs Samarqandi (radi Allahu anhu) writes in his book, "Rownaqul Majaalis": In Balkh there lived a merchant of great wealth and substance. When he passed away, his two sons divided his estate among themselves equally. Among the inheritance there were three hairs of Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam). Each one took one. The elder brother suggested that they cut the third one in half, each then taking one piece. This suggestion filled the younger brother with distress and he exclaimed, "That shall never be done. The blessed hair of Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) shall not be cut". The elder then suggested, "Will you be satisfied that these three hairs come to you as your portion of inheritance, while I take the rest of the estate?" The younger brother agreed to this with great pleasure and satisfaction. The elder brother then acquired all that the father had left behind. The younger brother had the three hairs. He kept those hairs on his person at all times. Very often he took them out, looked at them and recited Salaat upon the Nabi (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam). Not long thereafter, the elder brother had squandered and exhausted all his wealth, while the younger one became very wealthy. After some time the younger one died, someone from among the saintly ones saw a dream wherein Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) appeared to him and said, "If there be anyone with any kind of need, let him proceed to the grave of this person, sit down there and beg of Allah his need". (Qawlu Badee)

The same story is told in "Nuzhatul Majaalis", but with a slight addition. The story there says that when the elder brother became a pauper and saw Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) in a dream. He complained to Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) of great poverty. Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) told him: "O unfortunate one, you turned away from my hair and your brother accepted them and whenever he looked at them, he recited Salawat on me. For this reason, Allah had made him most fortunate, both in this world and in the Hereafter". When the elder brother awoke, he went forth and became one of the servants of his younger brother.
13. In "Nazhatul Majaalis", it is narrated that Hadrat Abu Haa'mid Qazwaini (radi Allahu anhu) said: A man and his son were on a journey. On the way, the father died and his face was transformed to that of a swine. The son, seeing this, cried bitterly and prayed to Allah. Soon the son fell asleep and saw a man telling him, "Your father used to consume interest (usury) and it is for this reason you see his face thus. But rejoice for Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) interceded on his behalf because whenever he heard his holy name he recited Salaat on him. Through the intercession of the Rasool (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam), he has been made to return to his original form".

14. Once while Hadrat Fareeduddin Data Ganj-e-Shakr (radi Allahu anhu) was explaining the excellence of Durood Shareef, a few Faqirs came to him. They told him that they were travelling to perform the Hajj and that they had no money for food and for the journey. The great Saint then offered them a few seeds of eaten dates upon which he recited the Durood Shareef. When the Faqirs looked at the date seeds, they were surprised to see that it changed into pieces of gold.

15. It is reported in "Al-Qolul Badi" that a lady once approached Hadrat Sheikh Hassan Basri (radi Allahu anhu) and asked him whether it was possible to see her deceased daughter in a dream or not. The great saint ordered her to go home. Before sleeping, she was asked to read four Rakaah of Salaah and in each Rakaah, after Sura Fatiha, she was to recite Sura Kaafirun once. She was told to continue reading the Durood Shareef after the Salaah till she fell off to sleep.

When she did all this, that night, she saw her daughter in her dream. She was shocked to see her daughter in terrible pain and anguish. She also saw that her daughter was locked by chains of fire and was completely surrounded by fire.

She told Hadrat Hassan Basri (radi Allahu anhu) about her dream and he advised her to give some Alms. After a few days, Sheikh Hassan Basri (radi Allahu anhu) himself dreamt of a young girl sitting on a throne and wearing a gold crown. When she asked the great Saint whether he recognised her or not, he replied that he did not. She then said: "I am the daughter of that woman who had related to you her dream". Sheikh Hassan Basri (radi Allahu anhu) then told her that according to her mother, she was in the pit of Hell and asked her how she reached that position.

The girl replied: "O Friend of Allah! About 70 000 others and myself were being punished by Almighty Allah by His Justice. But one day, a lover of Nabi Muhammad (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) was walking by. As he passed by our graves, he recited the Durood Shareef and then conveyed the Sawaab of the Durood Shareef to us. Almighty Allah accepted the Durood Shareef. As a result of this, all of us who were in punishment were saved and granted Jannah"..

Is durood shareef sunnat or farz..??
Innal Laaha Wa Malaaikatahu Yu Salluna Alan Nabi Yaa Ayyuhal Lazeena Aamanu Sallu Alaihe Wa Sallimu Taslimah.

Undoubtedly, Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala) and His angels send blessings on the Prophet (Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam), the Communicator of unseen news, O you who believe! Send upon Him blessings and salute Him fully well in abundance.(Kanzul Imaan: Surah Al Ahzab - 33, Aayat 56)

From the above verse it is obvious that it is an order from Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala thereby making it obligatory upon us.

Sadrus-Shariah, Badrut-Tariqah, Allama Mufti Amjad Ali Azmi (Rahmatullah Ta'ala Alayh) has stated, "It is farz for a person to recite Durood Shareef once in his life. In a congregation, it is Wajib to read Durood Shareef when a person hears the Blessed Name of the Beloved Prophet (Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam) whether he says the Blessed Name himself or hears it from someone else. If one hears the Blessed Name of Sayyidinah Rasoolullah (Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam) a hundred times in a gathering, he must read Durood Shareef each time. If someone hears the Blessed Name of sayyidinah Muhammad Mustafa (Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam) and does not read Durood Shareef, he should do so later on. When someone writes the name of the Beloved Prophet (Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam) according to certain scholars, it is Wajib to write Durood Shareef in full. Some people abbreviate the Durood Shareef and write (ain, saad, ainmeem, saadlam ainmeem ) whereas this is not premissible and is considered Haraam.

Another benefit of Darood Shareef

It is said that someone once saw a person in his dream who was wearing the hat of a fire worshipper. He was asked the reason for this. He replied, "Whenever the blessed name of the Noble Prophet (Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam) was taken, I never used to read Durood Shareef and because of this my inner knowledge and Imaan was taken." (Sab'a Sanaabil, Page35, Maktaba Nooriyah Razaviya, Sakhar)

So, if we want to really benefit from the Qur'an Shareef we obligatorily have to consider importance of Darood Shareef first, whether we read it read on hearing the Blessed Name of our Beloved Nabi (Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam) or before starting any prayer.

The Hadith Shareef below clearly explains itself about Darood Shareef being obligatory but I haven't come across its reference yet but have no doubt about it though.

Hazrat Anas Radiallahu anhu said: "That every du'a is prevented from reaching the Court of Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala until the person making du'a sends durood upon Sayyidinah Rasulullah (Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam) and upon the family of Sayyidinah Rasulullah (Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam) - then it reaches the Court of Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala and is accepted"

Respect That Should Be Accorded When Reciting Durood Shareef

Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim) said: "Without doubt, there is an Angel of Almighty Allah whom Allah has given power to listen to the voices of all the people. Whenever any person reads the Durood Shareef, this Angel delivers the Durood Shareef to me. I then plead to Almighty Allah for the person to receive ten blessings for reading a single Durood Shareef". (Jami'us Sagheer).

How should one recite the Durood Shareef?

What should be the persons condition and the conditions of his environment? The following points should be taken into account when reciting Durood Shareef:

1. It should be read with utmost humility and respect.

2. The clothes of the reciter should be clean and free from all impurity.

3. The place where the Durood Shareef is to be read should be clean.

4. It is more superior to be in a state of Wudhu while reciting the Durood Shareef. (Not a must, can be recited without Wuduh [Islamic Academy] )

5. It is better to sit in the Tashahudd position as you would sit when in Salaah and recite the Durood Shareef with concentration and the respect due to it.

6. It is preferable to face Madinatul Munawwarah.

7. If possible, one should have sweet fragrance around the place.

8. The reciter should try and understand the meaning of the Durood Shareef.

9. One should possess a clean and untainted intention. One should read with the sole intention of pleasing Almighty Allah and Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim).

10. The person should not be involved in worldly talks.

11. A person should try his level best to follow the example or Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim).

12. When reading Durood Shareef, you should try and imagine that you are sitting in the august presence of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim). Utmost respect and reverence should be displayed.

13. Whenever one hears or recites the Durood Shareef, it should be read and written in full. It is also preferable to kiss one's thumb and rub them over one's eyes when hearing the name of the Holy Prophet (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim). It's a Sunnah of Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddique (Radiallah Tala Anhu).

14. When the reading of the Durood Shareef is completed one should praise Allah Ta'ala that he has given you the opportunity of reading such a great Zikr as the Durood Shareef.

15. Whenever one takes the name of the Holy Prophet (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim), one should use titles of respect and reverence.

16. As an advantage one should count (if possible) on one's fingers as Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (Sallal Laahu Alaihi Wasallim) often encouraged this practice because on the Day of Qiyamah those same fingers will bear witness at the time when they are questioned.

17. Recite Durood Shareef wherever you are (not in the bathroom or toilet) and during any occasion.

Grave Warning Against Those Not Reading The Durood Shareef

Hadith 1: Sayyiduna ibn Abbas (radi Allahu anhu) narrates that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, "He who forgets to read the Durood Shareef, has certainly forgotten the path to Jannah". (Al Qolul Badi)

Hadith 2: Nabi Muhammad (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, "On the Day of Qiyamah there will be people who will be ordered to enter Jannah, but will not find the path to Jannah". When the Sahaba asked as to what the reason for this would be, he replied, "There will be individuals who did not read the Durood Shareef when they heard my name being mentioned". (Nuzhatul Majaalis)

Hadith 3: Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (radi Allahu anhu) narrates that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, "He who has forgotten to read the Durood Shareef, has truly forgotten the path to Jannah". (Al Qolul Badi)

Hadith 4: Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, "Certainly that person is a miser who does not read the Durood Shareef when my name is mentioned in front of him". (Mishkaat)

Hadith 5: Sayyidah Ayesha Siddiqa (radi Allahu anha) narrates that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, "There will be three individuals who will be deprived of recognizing me. The first is he who does not obey his parents. The second is he who abandons my Sunnah. The third is he who does not read the Durood Shareef when my name is mentioned". (Al Qolul Badi)

adith 6: Sayyiduna Jaabir (radi Allahu anhu) narrates that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, "When a group of people gather and then arise without having mentioned Almighty Allah and not having recited the Durood Shareef, then it is as if they have arisen after consuming rotten flesh". (Al Qolul Badi)

Hadith 7: Sayyiduna Abu Sa'eed Khudri (radi Allahu anhu) narrates that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, "When people sit in any gathering without reading the Durood Shareef, even though some will enter Jannah, they will be full of regrets". (Regret when looking at the lofty position achieved by others who were in the habit of reading the Durood Shareef) (Al Qolul Badi)

Hadith 8: Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (radi Allahu anhu) narrates that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, "Those individuals who sit in any gathering without having remembered Almighty Allah or read the Durood Shareef, they will experience hardship on the Day of Qiyamah. Thereafter, it will be the Divine Wish of Almighty Allah whether or not He allocates to them punishment or reward". (Al Qolul Badi)

Hadith 9: Sayyiduna Anas (radi Allahu anhu) narrates that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, "May I show you who among the misers is the greatest of misers? It is he who does not read the Durood Shareef when in front of whom my name is mentioned". (Al Qolul Badi)

Hadith 10: Sayyiduna Jarraad (radi Allahu anhu) narrates that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, "When I am remembered in front of any individual, and the individual does not read the Durood Shareef, he will certainly enter Hell". (Al Qolul Badi)
Hadith 11: Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, "It is an injustice that when I am mentioned in front of an individual, he does not read the Durood Shareef". (Al Qolul Badi)

Hadith 12: Sayyiduna Jaabir (radi Allahu anhu) narrates that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) ascended the Mimbar. When he had climbed the first step he said, "Aameen". He also said "Aameen" each time he climbed the second and third steps.

When the Sahaba asked him about this, he replied, "When I had climbed the first step, Sayyiduna Jibra'el Ameen presented himself and said, 'Unfortunate is that person who finds the Month of Ramadaan and let it pass by without being forgiven'. To this, I replied, Aameen."On the second step Sayyiduna Jibra'el said, 'Unfortunate indeed is that person who in his lifetime has his parents or at least one of them, yet (by being of service to them), he did not achieve Jannah'. To this, I replied, Aameen.

"On the third step Sayyiduna Jibra'el said, 'Unfortunate indeed also is that person in front of whom you are mentioned (O Muhammad) sallal laahu alaihi wasallam, yet he does not read the Durood Shareef'. I again replied, Aameen". (Bukhari Shareef)
Hadith 13: Sayyidah Ayesha Siddiqa (radi Allahu anha) narrates that during the last few moments of the Sehri she had lost the light of the candle and also the needle that she was sewing with. Suddenly, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) arrived. Due to the brilliant light (Noor) from his face, she found the lost needle.

When she commented about how brilliant the features of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) was, he replied, "Destruction is for that person who would not be able to see my face on the day of Qiyamah". When asked as to who that person would be, he replied. "That person who is a miser, and the miser is he who does not read the Durood Shareef when hearing my name". (Nuzhatun Naazireen)

Hadith 14: It is recorded that a hunter captured a buck and was passing by Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam). Almighty Allah gave the buck the power of speech. Addressing Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam), the buck pleaded, "O Prophet of Allah! I have little ones who are in need of milk. At this moment they are very hungry. Please command the hunter to release me so that I can feed them and then return".Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) asked her what would happen if she did not return. She replied, "If I do not return then the Curse of Almighty Allah will be upon me as the Curse of Almighty Allah is upon that person who does not read the Durood Shareef when you are mentioned. The curse of Almighty Allah is also upon that person who performs the Salaah but does not read the Du'a after it".Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) then ordered the hunter to release the buck as she would return as promised after feeding her young.

A few minutes later the buck did return. At that moment Sayyiduna Jibra'el Ameen presented himself to Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) and declared, "O Prophet of Allah! Almighty Allah sends His Salaams to you and has declared, 'By My Respect and Magnificence! I am certainly more merciful upon your followers (O Muhammad) than this buck upon its young. I would also return your followers to you as this buck has return to you'". (Al Qolul Badi)

Hadith 15: Nabi Muhammad (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, "All those deeds which do not begin with the remembrance of Almighty Allah and the recital of the Durood Shareef are deeds without blessing and divorced from all good". (Mutaali'ul Musarraat)The same Hadith as mentioned above also refers to speeches and lectures. (Mutaali'ul Musarraat)

Hadith 15

It is reported from Jābir Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu that the Prophet Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said:

Sufficient for one to be considered a miser is that when I am mentioned in his presence he does not send prayers on me.

Abū Hurayrah Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu also reported that the Prophet Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said:

Hadith 18

Anas bin Malik Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu reported:

Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala's Messenger Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam and I were coming out of the mosque that we met a person on the threshold of the mosque and he said to Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala's Messenger Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam , "When would be the Last Hour?" Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala's Messenger Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said: "What preparation have you prepared for that?" The man became silent and then said, "Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala's Messenger Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam, I have made no significant preparation with prayer and fasting and charity but I, however, love Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala and His Messenger Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam." Thereupon he Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said, "You would be along with one whom you love."

Hadith 19

Abū Hurayrah Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu related that the Messenger of Allāh Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala / Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said:

Increase invoking blessings on me on Friday, for surely it is presented to me.

[Bukhārī and At-Tabarānī recorded it and also ash-Shāfīi in his Musnad.]

In a different version from Anās Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu that the Prophet Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said:

Increase invoking blessings upon me on Friday and the night of Friday. Whoever invokes a single blessing on me, Allāh Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala will bless him ten times.

[Reported by al-Hāfidh as-Suyūtī in his Saghīr.]

Abū ad-Dardā Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu related that the Prophet Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said:

Increase invoking blessings upon me on Friday, it is witnessed by the Angels

[Recorded in the Sunan of Ibn Mājah in which al-Haythamī in his Zawā'id said it is authentic.]

The Prophet Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam is reported to have said:

Whoever among my nation invokes blessings upon me, ten good deeds are written for him and ten sins are erased from him.

Hadith 20

On the authority of Hazrat Anas Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu that the Messenger of Allāh Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala / Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said:

There are three under the shade of Allāh Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala on a day when there is no shade except His; the one who relieved a distress from someone from my nation; the one who gave life to my Sunnah and the one who invoked blessings on me the most.

Hadith 21

Hazrat Ubayy ibn Ka'b Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu said:

"After one third of the night the Prophet Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam used to get up. One such time he Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said: O People! Remember Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala! The rājifa [first blow of the Trumpet] is upon us! The rādifa [second blow of the Trumpet] follows it. Death has come." Ubayy Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu said: Ya rasulallāh innī ukthiru al-salāta `alayka fa kam aj`al laka min salātī "O Messenger of Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala / Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam, I make much salawat upon you as a habit. How much of my prayer should I devote to you?" The Prophet Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said: "As much as you like." Ubayy Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu said: "A quarter?" The Prophet Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said: "As you like, but if you add to that it will be better for you." Ubayy Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu then mentioned a third, then a half, then two thirds, and always the Prophet Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam answered: "As you like, but if you add to that it will be better for you." Finally Ubayy Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu said: yā rasulallāh innī urīdu an aj`ala salātī kullahā lak - "O Messenger of Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala / Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam, I want to devote my entire prayer (i.e. du`a) to you." Whereupon the Prophet Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said: "Then you will be freed from care and your sins will be forgiven." (Another version has: "Then Allah will suffice you in the matter of your worldly life and your hereafter.")

The meaning given in Al-Mubarakfuri's commentary on at-Tirmidhī, Tuhfa al-Ahwadhī said:

What is meant by, "I make all of my prayers for you," is "I turn over my prayers to you at every time which I supplicate therein for my self."

As-Sābūnī wrote in his abridgment of Ibn Kathīr Rahmatullahi Ta'ala Alayh's commentary the opinion of al-Imām an-Nawawī:

If one invokes blessings on the Prophet Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam, let him combine it with prayers and peace and not fall short on either of them. So do not say, salla-llahu 'alayhi and not 'alayhis-salām, only.

As-Sābūnī Rahmatullahi Ta'ala Alayh; commented:

This is what he said taken from the verse, "O ye who believe, invoke blessings on him and peace unceasingly." For it is more proper to be said, salla-llahu 'alayhi wa sallam, unceasingly.

Commenting on this hadith, Al-Haytami Rahmatullahi Ta'ala Alayh said:

It is understood from the wording of these narrations that the meaning of the word salāt in the expression: "I shall devote my salāt to you" is du`a' -- invocation... Then the meaning is: "There is a time in which I make du`a on behalf of myself: how much of that should I devote to you?" If this is established firmly, then consider what the Shaykh al-Islam al-hāfiz Ibn Hajar Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu said as reported from him by his student al-hāfiz al-Sakhawi who particularly commended this saying of his: "This hadith constitutes a tremendous principle of the Religion for whoever makes du`a after his recitation and says: O Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala, grant our Master Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala's Messenger Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam the reward of this worship."

Commenting on this hadith, Imam Sakhawi Rahmatullahi Ta'ala Alayh said:

Salāt in this hadith means invocation (du`a) and habitual devotion (wird) in the following sense: "There is a time in which I make du`a on behalf of myself: how much of that should I devote to you?" The Prophet Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam did not consider that he Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam should place a limit for him in this respect in order not to close the gate of superabundance for him. Accordingly he Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam persisted in giving Ubayy Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu the choice at the same time as he Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam stressed for him surplus in invocation until Ubayy Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu said: "I shall devote my entire prayer to you." That is: I shall invoke blessings upon you instead of asking anything for myself. Whereupon the Prophet Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said: "Then you will be freed from care," that is: do not worry either for your Religion or for your worldly need, because invoking blessings on me includes both remembrance of Alla Subhaanahu Wa Ta'alah and rendering honor to the Prophet Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam; and the sense of this is an indication to Ubayy Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu that he is actually invoking for himself, as confirmed by the Prophet Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam's report on behalf of his Lord: "Whoever is occupied from beseeching Me because of remembering Me, I shall grant him the best of what I grant those who beseech." Know then that if you make most of your worship consist in invoking blessings upon your Prophet Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam, Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala will suffice you in the matter of your worldly life and your hereafter.

However we say that, according to the party of the bukhala -- the mean and miserly -- to follow the Prophet Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam's advice in this matter "would foster his worship"! How far is this "Salafi" opinion from the Qur'an and the Sunnah! In 1,400 years of sending salawāt on the Prophet Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam far more abundantly than in our age, we have never witnessed what they claim; how then do they want us to fear its occurrence now?
And have they forgotten that the Prophet Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam specifically said: "Those closest to me in the hereafter are those who invoked blessings upon me the most (in dunyā)" and "No people sit at length without mentioning Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala and invoking blessings on His Prophet Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam except they will incur dissatisfaction from Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala (or: dissatisfaction on the Day of resurrection): if He Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala likes He Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala will punish them and if He Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala likes He Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala will forgive them"? Rather, they are intent on hindering Muslims from expressing love for their Prophet Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam through invoking blessings upon him, celebrating his birth, reading his life, and encouraging each other towards knowing him and loving him more than their own parents and children. For this is the great characteristic of this Community which its enemies wish to eradicate: we know our Prophet Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam; we keep his status high; we prefer his Sunnah to all other lifestyles; and we cherish his love among us more dearly than our own lives and properties. [Shaykh Hisham Kabbani]

During the last few moments of the Sehri she had lost the light of the candle and also the needle that she was sewing with. Suddenly, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam arrived. Due to the brilliant light (Noor) from his face, she found the lost needle. When she commented about how brilliant the features of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam was, he replied, "Destruction is for that person who would not be able to see my face on the day of Qiyamah". When asked as to who that person would be, He Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam replied. "That person who is a miser, and the miser is he who does not read the Durood Shareef when hearing my name". (Nuzhatun Naazireen)

Hadith 31

Sayyiduna Jaabir Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu narrates that:

Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) ascended the Mimbar. When he had climbed the first step he said, "Aameen". He also said "Aameen" each time he climbed the second and third steps.

When the Sahaba asked him about this, he replied, "When I had climbed the first step, Sayyiduna Jibra'el Ameen Alayhis Salaam presented himself and said, 'Unfortunate is that person who finds the Month of Ramadaan and let it pass by without being forgiven'. To this, I replied, Aameen."On the second step Sayyiduna Jibra'el Alayhis Salaam said, 'Unfortunate indeed is that person who in his lifetime has his parents or at least one of them, yet (by being of service to them), he did not achieve Jannah'. To this, I replied, Aameen.

"On the third step Sayyiduna Jibra'el Alayhis Salaam said, 'Unfortunate indeed also is that person in front of whom you are mentioned (O Muhammad) sallal laahu alaihi wasallam, yet he does not read the Durood Shareef'. I again replied, Aameen". (Bukhari Shareef)

Hadith 32

It is recorded that a hunter captured a buck and was passing by Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam). Almighty Allah gave the buck the power of speech. Addressing Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam), the buck pleaded, "O Prophet of Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala / Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam! I have little ones who are in need of milk. At this moment they are very hungry. Please command the hunter to release me so that I can feed them and then return". Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) asked her what would happen if she did not return. She replied, "If I do not return then the Curse of Almighty Allah will be upon me as the Curse of Almighty Allah is upon that person who does not read the Durood Shareef when you are mentioned. The curse of Almighty Allah is also upon that person who performs the Salaah but does not read the Du'a after it". Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) then ordered the hunter to release the buck as she would return as promised after feeding her young. A few minutes later the buck did return. At that moment Sayyiduna Jibra'el Ameen Alayhis Salaam presented himself to Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) and declared, "O Prophet of Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala / Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam! Almighty Allah sends His Salaams to you and has declared, 'By My Respect and Magnificence! I am certainly more merciful upon your followers (O Muhammad) than this buck upon its young. I would also return your followers to you as this buck has return to you'". (Al Qolul Badi)

Hadith 36

It is on the authority of Hazrat Anas Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu that the Noble Prophet Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said,

When a person recites Durood Shareef upon me once, then Almighty Allah creates a white cloud from the breath of the reciter. Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala then commands the cloud to rain and it rains. From every drop of this rain which falls on the ground, Almighty Allah causes gold to be created, from every drop that falls on a mountain, Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala causes silver to be formed and for ever drop that falls on a kaafir (unbeliever), Almighty Allah causes him to attain the gift of Imaan (becomes a Muslim). (Mukashifatul Quloob)

Hadith 37

The Noble Prophet Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said,

Those who send Durood upon me will be blessed with a powerful Noor (Light) on Pul Siraat and those who receive this Noor on Pul Siraat will attain salvation from Hell."

Hadith 38

The Noble Prophet Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said,

Hadith 41

When Thursday comes, Almighty Allah sends down Angels who have paper made from pure silver and gold pens with them. They write the names of all those who send Durood in abundance on a Thursday and eve of a Friday on the Prophet Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam. (Sa'adatud Daarain)

Hadith 42

The Prophet Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said,

Hadith 43

The Prophet Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said,

Hadith 45

Hazrat Sahl ibn Sa`ad (radi Allahu anhu) narrates:

The Beloved Rasool (sall Allaho alaihi wasallam) came out and met Abu Talha Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu. The latter rose and went to him saying: "My father and mother be sacrificed for you, O Rasoolullah (sall Allaho alaihi wasallam)! I see joy and delight in your expression?" The Prophet (sall Allaho alaihi wasallam) said: "Yes, for Jibraeel (alaihis salaam) has just come to me saying: O Muhammad (sall Allaho alaihi wasallam) , whoever among your Community invokes blessings upon you once, Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala records for Him ten meritorious deeds, erases from his register ten evil deeds, and raises him ten degrees because of it." (Al-Sakhawi)

Hadith 46

Sayyiduna Rasoolullah Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said:

A person who is overwhelmed by anxiety and worry should increase the reading of the Durood Shareef. Durood Shareef eradicates anxiety, worry and distress. It also increase sustenance and satisfies the needs".

(Nuzhatun Naarireen)

Hadith 47

Sayyiduna Umar Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu said:

The Du'a of a person remains suspended between the Heavens and Earth as long as the Durood Shareef is not read.

Hadith 48

Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) once advised his beloved wife, Sayyidah Ayesha Siddiqa (radi Allahu anha), "O Ayesha! Before you sleep, you should perform four deeds:

* You should complete the recital of the Holy Quran,
* You should make sure that the Prophets intercede for you on the Day of Qiyamah,
* You should make sure that the entire Muslim Ummah is happy, and
* You should perform the Hajj and Umrah".

Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) then completed his Salaah and was asked as to how it was possible to complete all these deeds before going to sleep. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) smiled and replied, "O Ayesha! When you read Surah Ahad three times, then it is as if you have read the entire Quran. When you read the Durood Shareef upon me and upon all the preceding Ambiyah, then we will certainly intercede for you on the Day of Qiyamah. When you make Du'a for all the Muslims, they will be happy with you. When you read the following, 'Subhanal laahi wal Hamdulil laahi wala illaha illal laahu wallahu Akbar,' then it is as if you have performed the Hajj and Umrah".

Hadith 49

Sayyiduna Rasoolullah Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said,

"When you read the Durood Shareef, your name and appearance is presented to me. Therefore, you should read the Durood Shareef in a beautiful manner".

(Sadaatud Daarain)

Hadith 50

Sayyiduna Rasoolullah Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said,

"He who reads the Durood Shareef ten times, then it is as if he has freed a slave".

Hadith 51

Sayyiduna Rasoolullah Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said,

"When people will arise from their graves, I will be the first to arise. When mankind shall gather on the Day of Qiyamah, I shall be their leader. When mankind shall remain silent, I shall be their spokesman. When they will be called forward for judgement, I will be their intercessor. When they will lose all hope, I will give them glad tidings. The Flag of Miracle on that Day will be in my hands including the Keys of Jannah. My status on that Day, compared to the rest of Bani Adam, will be the most supreme. I do not say this in pride. And as long as no Durood Shareef is read during a Du'a, there is a veil between it and the Heavens. When the Durood Shareef is read, the veil is removed and the Du'a is accepted". (Sadaatud Daarain)

It has also been mentioned by the Awliya and the Ulema that we should read the Durood Shareef at the beginning, at the center and at the end of the Du'a.

Hadith 52

Sayyiduna Rasoolullah Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said,

"Verily, Almighty Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala directs His Mercy towards that person who reads the Durood Shareef. That person towards whom Almighty Allah directs His Mercy will not suffer the punishment of Hell".

"Whosoever reads the Durood Shareef, 'Allahumma salle ala Ruhi Muhammad fil arwahi wa ala Jasadi fil ajsadi wa ala Qabre fil Quboori', will see me in his dream. Whosoever sees me in his dream, will see me on the Day of Qiyamah. Whosoever sees me on that Day, I will intercede for him. Whosoever I intercede for will drink from the Fountain of Kauther. It will become Haraam upon the Fire of Hell to consume his body".

Hadith 55

Sayyiduna Rasoolullah Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said,

"Truly my Lord has allocated a special station for those that read the Durood Shareef".

Hadith 56

Sayyiduna Rasoolullah Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said,

"He who reads the Durood Shareef, his heart becomes clean of hypocrisy (Nifaaq) as clothes become clean through water".

(Kashful Gumma)

Hadith 57

Some Sahaba Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhum have mentioned that,

"From the gathering in which Durood Shareef is read a sweet smell emanates which reaches the Heavens. When this sweet smell reaches the Malaa'ikah they remark, 'On the earth there is a gathering in which Durood Shareef is being recited'". (Dalaa'ilul Khayraat)

It is because of this Hadith that titles such as "Atyabut Taahireen" and "Atharut Taahireen" have been given to Nabi Muhammad (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam). The Awliya are also able to perceive this sweet smell. Mankind, due to its many sins, cannot sense this. Mankind can be likened to a person suffering from fever. Even though he partakes in sweet things, to him it all tastes bitter.

Hadith 58

Sayyiduna Rasoolullah Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said,

"He who does not read the Durood Shareef possesses no religion".

Hadith 59

Imam ibn Bashkawaal reports a Hadith from Hazrat Anas (radi Allahu anhu), in which Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) has stated, "Whosoever sends a Durood Shareef upon me with the intention of honouring me, Almighty Allah will transform that Durood Shareef into an Angel whose one wing spreads to the East and one to the West. Allah commands this Angel, 'O My Angel! Send Durood upon my servant as he has sent Durood upon My Beloved Habeeb'."

In response to this Divine Command, the Angel will continue to send Durood upon the person till the Day of Judgement. Similarly, Moulana Naqi Ali Khan (radi Allahu anhu) the father of A'la Hazrat, Imam Ahmed Raza Khan (radi Allahu anhu), in his famous book, "Al Kalaamul Awdah fi Tafseer-e-Alam-Nash-rah", reports a Hadith from Imam Sakhaawi (radi Allahu anhu) in which Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) has stated, "There is one Angel of Almighty Allah whose one side is in the East and one in the West. When anyone sends Durood Shareef upon me out of love and devotion, this Angel dives into the Heavenly Water and flutters his wings. From each drop that falls from his wings, Almighty Allah creates one Angel who will be reciting Istigfaar (seeking pardon) for this person until the Day of Judgement."

Hadith 39

The Noble Prophet Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said,

When you forget anything, then read Durood upon me, (Insha Allah Azwajal) you will remember it. (Sa'adate Daarain)

Hadith 40

The Noble Prophet Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said,

That person who reads one hundred Duroods upon me on a Friday will be blessed with such a powerful Noor (Light), that if it (Its light) had to be distributed, it would be sufficient for the entire creation. (Dala'il-e-Khairaat)

He Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said:

Say, 'O Allāh Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala send prayers on the Muhammad Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam and the Family of Muhammad Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam just as You have sent prayers on Ibrāhīm Alayhis Salaam and the Family of Ibrāhīm Alayhis Salaam. Surely You are the Praised, the Majestic. And Bless Muhammad Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam and the Family of Muhammad Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam just as You sent prayers upon and blessed Ibrāhīm Alayhis Salaam and the Family of Ibrāhīm Alayhis Salaam and bless Muhammad Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam and the Family of Muhammad Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam just as You have blessed Ibrāhīm Alayhis Salaam and the Family of Ibrāhīm Alayhis Salaam," it will bear witness for him on the Day of Judgment and will intercede for him.

Allah, the Mighty and Sublime said:

"Verily, Allah and His angels bless the Prophet . O you who believe, ask (Allah) to bless him and grant him abundant peace." (33:56)

Hadith 11

Ibn Mas'ūd Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu said that the Messenger of Allāh Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala / Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said :

The closest to me on the Day of Judgment are those who pray upon me more.

Hadith 12

The Prophet Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said:

Verily Allāh Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala has an angel standing at my grave until the Day of Judgment. There are none who sends prayers upon me except the angel names him and his father and he says, "O Muhammad Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam, send prayers on so-and-so the son of so-and-so." For my Lord hath commissioned me to return every prayer sent upon me tenfold.

Hadith 13

The Prophet Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said:

I asked my Lord that no servant sends prayers upon me except that Allāh Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala send ten prayers on him ten like his.

Hadith 14

'Abd-Allāh bin 'Amir bin Rabī'ah Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu related from his father that the Messenger of Allāh Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala / Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said:

One does not send prayers on me except that the Angels send prayers on him as long as he is sending prayers on me. So you may do as much as you like.

Hadith 15

It is reported from Jābir Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu that the Prophet Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said:

Sufficient for one to be considered a miser is that when I am mentioned in his presence he does not send prayers on me.

Hadith 16

Reported from 'Umar bin al-Khattāb Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anh that the Prophet Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said:

He who sends prayers and peace on me in a book, the angels never cease in sending prayers upon him as long as my name is in that book.

Hadith 17

Abū Hurayrah Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu reported the Prophet Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said:

He who send prayers upon me on Friday eighty times, Allāh will forgive eighty years of sin.

[Ibn Nu'mān graded it hasan (good)]

Abū Hurayrah Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu also reported that the Prophet Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said:

Prayers upon me is a light on the Sirāt (Bridge) and the one who sends prayers upon me on Friday eighty times will be forgiven eighty years of sin.

Hadith 22

Sayyiduna ibn Abbas Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu narrates that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said,

Hadith 23

Sayyiduna Rasoolullah Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said,

Hadith 25

Sayyiduna Jaabir Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu narrates that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said:

Hadith 26

Sayyiduna Abu Sa'eed Khudri Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu narrates that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said:

Hadith 27

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu narrates that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said:

"Those individuals who sit in any gathering without having remembered Almighty Allah or read the Durood Shareef, they will experience hardship on the Day of Qiyamah. Thereafter, it will be the Divine Wish of Almighty Allah whether or not He Subhaanahu Wa Ta'ala allocates to them punishment or reward". (Al Qolul Badi)

Hadith 28

Sayyiduna Jarraad Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu narrates that Sayyiduna Rasoolullah Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said:

Hadith 29

Sayyiduna Rasoolullah Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said:

Sayyidah Ayesha Siddiqa Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anha narrates that:

Hadith 43

The Prophet Sallal Laahu Ta'ala Alayhi Wa Sallam said,

Hadith 53
