Only one song makes my hair stand and give me goosebumps..

Jana Gana Mana...

Rest are all just songs..however good they might be.
The only true national song or anthem is Jana Gana Mana.

The rest either have some regional issues or religious issues.

For eg, I don't like Sare jahan se acha. Some people may not want to sing Vande mataram.

Pure Aryan Music.

Loch Lomond
By yon bonnie banks and by yon bonnie braes,
Where the sun shines bright on Loch Lomon'.
where me and my true love were ever wont to gae
On the bonnie, bonnie banks o' Loch Lomon'.

Chorus:
O ye'll tak' the high road and I'll tak the low road,
An' I'll be in Scotland afore ye;
But me and me true love will never meet again
On the bonnie, bonnie banks o' Loch Lomon'.

'Twas there that we parted in yon shady glen,
On the steep, steep side o' Ben Lomon',
Where in purple hue the Hieland hills we view,
An' the moon comin' out in the gloamin'.

(chorus)

The wee birdies sing and the wild flow'rs spring,
And in sunshine the waters are sleepin';
But the broken heart it kens nae second spring,
Tho' the waefu' may cease frae their greetin'.
"The song was apparently written by a young soldier to his sweetheart. Two
of Bonnie Prince Charlies soldiers were captured in Carlisle after the
abortive rising of 1745. One wrote the song, the other was released and
took it back to Scotland to give to his colleagues sweetheart. The low road
refers to the soldiers impending death and the path of his spirit, whilst
the high road is either the sign of hope for which he sacrificed his life,
or the actual road back to Scotland over the high rugged hills.
Hence, his spirit would return via the low road and be back in Scotland
first."

Always gives me a high...more than any brand of daaru 8)

As I listened to our National Anthem the memories of my school years were refreshed and to this day those early morning standing in straight line bring back the visual scene of the "sabsay sunder subhay" and I can still see the faces of my class mates in front of me.

You are truly a "Messiah" who has invoked the nationalist fire in me by posting the "National Anthem".

Thank you.

The best patriotic song ever

This song no doubt is one of the most emotional and most patriotic song ever.
For people who may not know, this song was written after the Sino-Indian war and Lata Mangeskar sang it on a live performance and Jawarhal Nehru cried. It was because of his guilt.Too bad,he didn't listened to the warnings.A great lesson for India but sadly GOI doesn't seem to have taken it seriously till now.

THE MINSTREL BOY
by Thomas Moore
The Minstrel Boy to the war is gone
In the ranks of death you will find him;
His father's sword he hath girded on,
And his wild harp slung behind him;"
Land of Song!" said the warrior bard,
"Tho' all the world betrays thee,
One sword, at least, thy rights shall guard,
One faithful harp shall praise thee!"

The Minstrel fell! But the foeman's chain
Could not bring that proud soul under;
The harp he lov'd ne'er spoke again,
For he tore its chords asunder;
And said "No chains shall sully thee,
Thou soul of love and brav'ry!
Thy songs were made for the pure and free,
They shall never sound in slavery!"

The Minstrel Boy will return we pray
When we hear the news we all will cheer it,
The minstrel boy will return one day,
Torn perhaps in body, not in spirit.
Then may he play on his harp in peace,
In a world such as Heaven intended,
For all the bitterness of man must cease,
And ev'ry battle must be ended.

A great song- whenever I hear it, it makes me question the whole structure of human society.

The Cantonese version:

(Stanza 1)
Vigorous when facing the beatings of ten thousands heavy waves.
Ardent just like the rays of the red sun,
Having courage like forge iron and bones as hard as refined steel.
Having lofty aspirations and excellent foresight
I worked extremely hard, aspiring to be a strong and courageous man (AKA Hero).
In order to become a hero, One should strive to become stronger everyday.
An ardent man shines brighter than the sun.

(Stanza 2)
Allowing the sky and sea to amass energy for me,
To split heaven and part the earth (To create a new world), to fight for my aspirations.
Watching the stature and grandeur of jade colored waves,
at the same time watching the vastness jade colored sky, let our noble spirit soar.
I am a man and I must strive to strengthen myself.
