To clarify my earlier point. I think India needs to be extremely vigilant about its defense....from narcissistic ,warmongering western crazy rulers....from delusional Islamic terrorists and any one who dares to dream of using Pakistan once again against India. If Pakistan allows itself to be used by West and/or China...India should give a very big blow to it militarily and financially so that never again in future it allows itself to be a pawn in the hands of outside troublemakers. There should be special think tank in Indian military only to research how to degrade and destroy Paki if it allows itself to be used by outside forces once again ...against India. If Paki does not repeat the past whorelike behavior, India should start opening business avenues and trade with that country very carefully. Lots of mangoes and shawls and sarees to be exchanged thereafter.

Many tests can probably be done by supercomputers using simulations.
Underground tests are not done often like they were in the past.

The clear answer is - yes, India needs more tests.

However the current geo-politics and complex nature of Indian economy (over-dependence on outside factors) does not allow testing.

So India is dependent on designs validated in 1998 tests, which of course is a very limiting factor.

However whatever is there still is significant. So nothing to worry.

India is a large country with plenty of manpower. India can live without nukes even. India can raise a much large army than it has now.

I think NO. The only legit reson being the sanctions which would further delay/stall our projects and developments. Moreover we have a min credible defence in place. No need to worry about it.

NO until we have a solid excuse to do so. Maybe next time NK tries?

There is one lining in the silver cloud for India. The computers have become very good and it is possible to do very accurate simulations on the computers.

This means new weapons can be designed (even if untested) that are very likely to work.

It is hard to prove the nuclear weapons like conventional ones which are inducted after a large number of tests.

It is possible (though there is no conformation in public sources) that India has built a new generation of hydrogen bombs.
