Those who are asking for change in color of uniform, have never worn khaki and felt the pride it brings.
It is not only Khaki colour, all uniform brings pride to serviceman. Bangladesh police does not use Khaki, are they undisciplined?

People have a misunderstanding that if the police become more pliant and mild, it would be better for the society. Well, for them there's a lesson in current WB where cops can no longer bear arms!
Do agree.

The reform is required - very much so. But that should be in the attitude, not in color. The respect and fear of law that Khaki brings in people's mind, no other color can substitute that fast.
Reform is not easy to be done. Policeman comes from society not from heaven, so if society gets corrupt police too will get corrupt.

So in no way you can bring change in police mentality, unless society is changed. It is the reply to those all who say police reform is required more than changing uniform. Reform is required of course, but cant get success.

How ever we can easily replace Police uniform as it is easier than changing society.

IMO current traffic police uniform(white and navy blue) is best.

IMO they look like school boys.

Anyway whatever uniform you give to the cops of WB, it is waste. The way they wear them is insult to the uniform. Sneakers in feet, without cap - they look more like hooligans than cops.

I have been to many places in India, but never did I see such a poor and undisciplined attire of cops! How can people respect them if they themselves don't know how to respect their uniform?

Uniform is part of symbolism....

By keeping the Thulas in uniform, they are supposed to be symbolising the State power or the state authority to bring violence on the subject, to deter and to remind citizens of the state's authority to inflict pain by force on the citizens. That is why the Danda and now the Guns are part of their getup...

But I feel we have moved far away from the force symbolising Colonial Rule to Democracy wherein the police must discharge their basic function of law and order as also providing a sense of Security to Citizens not by showing symbols of Violence but of confidence. The Police forces must move away from the Colonial repressive Khaki Uniforms to Civvies with hung ID Cards. They must provide unobtrusive safety to the citizens rather than by instilling fear of their reprehensive Corrupt Khaki and Danda (Thullas). Today's police frightens citizens . We need Police which instils confidence rather than apprehension, hatred and fear. We have seen it : fear does not necessarily work. Police must be dressed in Civvies' and learn to work without Danda.- or a gun. No Minister has been Gunned down in normal course. Even for protection duties one pistol hidden is good enough.

Reserve police Forces such as CRPF also need to change to simple and friendly uniforms. It is high time notorious Khaki is buried for ever.

It is only the Armed Forces of India symbolising the Collective violence of the country that need to be in uniform or the waiters in the longue..... not the police. Police must move away from the image of Thullas....
