UK radical cleric plans Delhi march for Sharia, police block his website

Instructed by Delhi High Court to probe a complaint against two radical Islamic preachers and their website announcing a march in New Delhi on March 3 to press for the enforcement of Sharia, police today said they would not allow any such march.

The website has been blocked and police have alerted hotels against hosting any individual connected to the proposed march or the "highly inflammatory" website.

The group's head is London-based preacher Anjem Choudary, known for his fiery speeches and self-styled Sharia court. Along with Islamic radical Omar Bakri Muhammad — he left the UK for Lebanon in 2005 — Choudary founded the al-Muhajiroun. He was the man behind Islam4UK and referred to Osama bin Laden as his "ameer" who had attained "martyrdom".

Choudary told The Indian Express over phone from London that the march organisers have already been contacted by Delhi Police.

"I do not believe in Indian law, so there is no question of seeking any permission from the authorities there. We have organised a video conferencing on March 2 with Sheikh Omar Bakri Muhammad who is based in Lebanon. My visa application is under process with the Indian High Commission here and I expect to get it... We hope to arrive a day ahead of our press conference. But in case we are not given the visa, we will broadcast our address to the demonstration,'' he said.

"Arabs have failed in terms of Deen (religion) and the call for Sharia is strong from non-Arab countries like Indonesia and India... many of us have been involved with al-Muhajiroun, al-Ghurabaa and Islam4UK,'' he said.

Though Choudary was born in UK, his father is of Indian origin while his mother is of Pakistani origin. Abu Baraa, convener of sharia4hind, is a British citizen of Bangladeshi origin.

Asked who his representatives were in India, Choudary said: "After the ban and other issues, we don't want to talk about our people there. We have substantial support.''

On his website Anjem Choudary, he says: "I am not amongst those who believe in the false Gods of Democracy and Freedom or who worship Presidents, Kings and Prime Ministers by obeying them or who submits to any man made law as opposed to the divine law (i.e. the Shari'ah)."

On February 22, Delhi Police received a complaint from one Anil Kumar Yadav that sharia4hind was organising a march in the city. Attached to the complaint were printouts of the group's website and posters on the Internet.

On the same day, the High Court heard a petition — it was filed by Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga of the Bhagat Singh Kranti Sena — which sough a ban on the march since "this may result in communal clashes and disruption of public peace and order". The High Court asked the Police Commissioner to investigate the complaint.

Navaid Hamid, member of the National Integration Council, too wrote to Home Minister P Chidambaram seeking a ban on the proposed march and urged him to ask the Telecom Ministry to block the website.

Police said they were seeking the help of intelligence agencies to gather information on people supporting the group as Baraa was not cooperating. "Baraa did not tell us how many would be participating in the march. But the complaint mentioned that 300-400 people were expected," an officer said.

"There will be heavy security March 1 onward, we do not want to take a chance. Hotels have been alerted and we will have pickets to foil any march to Parliament," the officer said.

So much hype for a handful of the 3 idiots and self declared "cleric" on youtube. Apparently this guy doesn't even understand Arabic language even. I still don't understand why the UK is not putting him behind prison when he was a leader and founder of a banned group. And when he himself claims that he is inciting people to commit acts of terrorism.

IF he was in any Muslim country he would have been arrested and hanged long time back for his nonsensical comments. I hope that Indian courts convict him and sentence him to prison and put an extradition notice on him. The FIR should be taken to court and then to its logical conclusion.

It should also lodge an FIR against the hosting company of the website which is Cannada for hosting hatesites just as it is holding Google, Yahoo e.t.c. resposible too. It would also apply to youtube and twitter accounts as well. There is no need for GoI to act dubiously like the UK govt. when there is unanimous consenses among Muslims in India that he is wrong and should be punished. Muslims groups across the board from Shia, to Deobandi, Barelvi and even Ahle-Hadees/Salafi school of throughts have all unanimously rejected Anjem Choudary

NEW DELHI: Several Muslim leaders took strong exception the website called shariah4hind.com, terming it as conspiracy to disturb peace in India in the name of Shariat. They said that it is a game plan of some mischievous non Muslim group to malign Indian muslims.
A website *www.shariah4hind.com*, ostensibly based in England, had given a call for a rally on March 3 in New Delhi to demand implementation of Shariat, the Islamic law in India.

Condemning the website, Maulana Arshad Madni of Jamiat Ulema Hind (Arshad Madni group), said that the episode pointed to a larger conspiracy. He said that Indian Muslims were not even aware of any such website or its programme while an organization having a known history of anti-Muslim hatred had sufficient information to file a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the High Court.

Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid Syed Ahmad Bukhari said that such interference by foreign elements in the country's affairs was unacceptable. He said, "Indian Muslims have been raising their voice for their rights but would never tolerate any attack on the Constitution by anybody.

Condemning the hype about the website and its proposed programme, Shahi Imam of Fatehpuri Masjid Maulana Mufti Mohammad Mukarram said that neither it was possible for a foreign organization to gherao the parliament nor the government would give permission for any such programme. He demanded the government to investigate the whole episode.

Navaid Hamid, a member of All India Muslim Majlis Mashawart, has demanded ban on the website and its proposed programme on March 3. In a letter to Union Home Minister P.Chidambaram, Hamid said that the contents of the website were inflammatory and aimed to create chaos and discord between different communities.

He wondered how so-called Bhagat Singh Kranti Sena, whose members were involved in attacks on Muslims at New Delhi Railway Station just two months back, were the first to notice this website.

Maulana Abdul Wahab Khilji, former general secretary of Jamiat-e-Ahle hadis and a member of All India Muslim Personal Board, termed the whole episode mysterious. He said that the government of India must investigate the organization and people behind this mischief so that the episode is not
used to demonise Indian Muslims. He said no Indian Muslim would support any such move by any organization.

Intezar Naeem, Secretary, Jamaate Islami Hind said that such websites did not deserve the kind of publicity they are receiving. He said that the episode looked more like a tamasha.

Maulana Syed Mohsin Taqvi, President, National Council of Shia Ulema, said that this was a conspiracy against Muslims. He said that neither Ulema nor common Muslims would support any attempt against the country and its Constitution.

The website came to prominence when a PIL demanding ban on it came up for hearing on February 22 and the Delhi High Court directed the Commissioner of Delhi Police to submit report.

Interestingly, one Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga, Presidednt of so-called "Bhagat Singh Kranti Sena", had filed the PIL. Bagga is the same person who had instigated brutal assault on senior lawyer and Team Anna member Prashant Bhushan in his Supreme Court chamber on October 12 last year.

It is also interesting that the website owners were aware of the PIL before its reporting by press in India. A link titled "A Response To Delhi High Court Hearing" available on the homepage of the site had the following announcement, "On 22nd February 2012, anti-Muslim organization Bhagat Singh Kranti Sena will attend the Delhi High Court appealing for a ban of organisation Shariah4Hind. They will also be demanding that the planned rally for Shariah on 3rd March 2012 outside Sansad Bhavan be outlawed and that visas for Anjem Choudary and Shariah4Hind representatives be rejected."

This correspondent accessed this message on the website on February 22. The website is now inaccessible.

Infact, around the same time, there are two major events taking place of Muslim groups much much larger followings and importance in India but have not even received half the media coverage of this loon.

The first is the Jamiat Ahle Hadees conference in Delhi which among other things was hosting one of the Imams of the Grand mosque in Mecca categorially stated that Hafiz Saeed and the LeTare deviant groups and stated that acts like plane hijackings, suicide bombings and other acts of terrorism are not allowed and are haram. They went even so far as to explain that public demonstrations against the govt. are also not allowed in their school of thought. Thousands of people attended this conference in Ram Lila maidan and the lectures were conducted openly.
For those who don't know, I again repeat that the Saudi Salafis were one of the first to declare suicide bombings haram when they started being done by Muslims in the 1980s. And it was clearly mentioned that even if the suicide bombing is against Israelis, it is still not allowed.
Ofcourse, as a percentage Ahle-Hadees still has a small following compared to other schools of thoughts but the open statements on Indian soil again retierate that all schools of thoughts in Islam oppose killing of civilians and acts of terrorism.

The other major event was the Cannada based Barelvi cleric Tahir-ul-Qadri who had an extensive schedule all over India including Gujarat and 12 other locations over India. He has also condemened terrorism and has published an extensive 500 page booklet which collects references and opinions of other major clerics from different schools of thoughts on categorically refuting and rejecting and justification of terrorism. Again, he has millions of followers all over the world but hardly any mention about him in the media.

So lets give propotionate coverage (and importance) to people who matter.
