The Scots had always been quite edgy about their position in the United Kingdom. They have always wanted independence and are finally getting it. Sean`s Conneries wish is coming true it seems.
well Sir, the latest polls online show the NO campaign still ahead as they have been all along : In fact the NO camp have been so confident all along that they haven't bothered to go out and convince folks of their cause . The NO camp are at their lowest point , but still ahead and
from what i understand a simple majority is all that is needed to swing the final decision either way : we could end up
with a George HW Bush type of victory where in his second term he won by a margin of only a few hundred and at times
the other side thought they won

Nevertheless, and i am neutral in this matter - it seems the NO is likely to hold on to their lead
- sorry to rain on your parade.

Economy of Scotland
GDP = $277 billion
GDP per capita = $52,009

Economy of London
GDP = $731 billion
GDP per capita = $152,116
yeah - exactly ! Scotland the brrrrr ?

they dont seem to have the guts to run their own land !
Just only have guts to join the English as junior partners and bully others who had no weapons, in the past.

But but to run their own nation - such a fuss - and counting the pennies !

In one debate that i watched online the Scots were counting the cost of postage stamps -
if they became independent - how much would the postage cost !!!

one of the Scottish ladies became so upset and asked if postage stamps
we more important than their independence .- what if Gandhi had asked about
the cost of postage stamps if India were to become independent ?
another survey showed that Scots would vote according to whichever
plan gave them 500 pounds more per annum
So their Independence decision is based on 500 pounds ?!

I think this whole independence for Scotland - is a joke !! - it's merely a matter of going through the motions
and once it's done - no more of that independence talk from you Scots for the next 20 years, please !

Allow me to tell you the result before hand - NO wins !

Scotland's Leader Alex Salmond Wins Debate on Independence Vote
Scotland's pro-independence leader Alex Salmond emphatically won a final televised debate Monday, but it was not clear if his performance would be enough to achieve victory in next month's historic referendum on whether to split from Britain. The first minister triumphed in a series of ill-tempered clashes with Alistair Darling, the leader of the Better Together anti-independence movement. "It's our time, let's seize it with both hands," Salmond told the Glasgow audience.

A snap Guardian/ICM poll after the debate found that 71 percent of more than 500 respondents judged that Salmond had won, against 29 percent who backed Darling. However, polling expert John Curtice, a professor at Glasgow's Strathclyde University, questioned whether it would be enough to sway voters. ICM said its early findings suggested the debate "did not influence how people say they will vote in the referendum." Recent polls have narrowed the gap between the two sides, but the most recent "poll of polls" on Aug. 15, excluding undecided respondents, found support for ending Scotland's 307-year union with England and Wales stands at 43 percent -- compared to 57 percent for remaining in the United Kingdom.

Good bye!

Independent Scotland will have the same GDP PPP per capita as Slovakia's and it's defence budget will also be smaller than Angola's.

Scottish Independence: Pakistan claim 'ludicrous'

SCOTTISH INDEPENDENCE: Better Together must withdraw its "ludicrous claim" that Pakistan is richer than Scotland, Scottish Finance Secretary John Swinney has demanded.

A No campaign document entitled The Facts You Need states that an independent Scotland would be the 45th richest country in the world, behind Pakistan and Finland, compared with the UK which is sixth.

Mr Swinney said Westminster politicians "are deliberately talking down the Scottish economy".

He called on the No campaign "to withdraw its ludicrous claim that Pakistan is richer than Scotland", publishing "10 key strengths" of the Scottish economy over and above North Sea oil.

Is it the swing time in favour of Independence campaign? I believe some English right winger will make a ludicrous comment to strengthen that swing before the vote.

I think the Scots will need to apply fresh for EU membership if they separated. Can someone confirm on this?
If they have to, it will be interesting to scan the prospects of whether they'll make it into EU or not.

Already Scotland is a part of EU bcz of UK. But after independence it won't be hard for them to get in EU again.

That will be part of pre-independence negotiations among Scotland, UK and EU.

Scottish export market of fish, oil, gas and on top of it 16000 EU students use Scottish universities. All these things will make it easy for Scots and EU as well.

UK Offers Scotland More Autonomy Ahead of Independence Vote
The British government plans to offer Scotland more financial autonomy in the coming days as polls predict a very close vote in the upcoming referendum on Scottish independence. Chancellor George Osborne told BBC on Sunday that the government is finalizing plans to give Scotland "much greater" fiscal and tax autonomy and will unveil the proposals in the coming days.

He spoke after polls showed a tightening of the vote ahead of the landmark September 18 referendum on whether Scotland should become independent from Britain. The latest surveys show those who favor independence gaining ground despite British government warnings about possible pitfalls.

Osborne said the polls show how important every vote will be and reiterated that an independent Scotland would not be able to use the British pound. He said Britain's three main political parties understand Scottish voters want more autonomy and that the new proposals would be substantive. Scottish Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said if the British government was serious about giving Scotland more financial powers it would not have waited until two weeks before the referendum. "There is no guarantee whatsoever that if Scotland votes 'No' we will get a single additional power for the Scottish Parliament," she said.

is the reference to packland more than a just economic numbers ?

is there some insinuation of betrayal and treachery to the former good old days of the union ?

surprising to me though that they should in a way portray packland as the betrayer ........ is this a conscious
or subconscious kinship to the Indian Union or perhaps more to Gandhi whom they
seem to have always liked ?

Pakistan too would find it (the claim) ludicrous since they have experienced partition and have landed themselves to become ridiculous.

The experience that Pakistan has brought on themselves speaks how division can make the best of dreams go bust.

Until middle of 19th century, it was said that the sun does not set on BRITISH empire. Now, that Big Old British empire is disintegrating....First Ireland became independent nation, and now, Scotland is its way to being independent for Grrreat Britain. The empire crumbled into three pieces.
ALL Empires finally Die. giving way to democratic, multi-polar world order. Get ready for crumbling of western empire...it's coming... a candle burns the brightest before its ready to be extinguished.

Britts are very cunning and complicated people. They wanted Indians to believe in Gandhian values of non-violence but they kept of preparing for wars by making more and more powerful weapons . They do not believe in Gandhi...they preach others, developing nations to believe in Gandhi...so that they can control the little bit power left of this rotten, crumbling empire of doom. BJP led govt. understand their crooked methods and is going to weaponize to counter the hegemony, arrogance and crazy delusion of the west to dominate, subjugate and control world and its resources.
Living free and poorer is better than living a slave less poor. Scotland is choosing to live free...even if less rich. There is no price of freedom.

My interpretation of what you'd posted as quoted above is that it is ludicrous to compare the Scottish dream to
packland in the sense tha the Scottish nation has been a nation of inventors (Alexander Graham Bell, James Watt etc )
and they played a hugely co-operative role for empire whereas packland's contribution to the Indian union was mostly
hugely contrarian ?

You are spot on.

My sentiments exactly.

Cameron Skips Parliamentary Session to Fight Scottish Independence After Poll Surge
Britain's Prime Minister David Cameron and main opposition leaders canceled a weekly Parliamentary showdown in order to travel to Scotland, where polls show a dramatic surge in support for independence from the United Kingdom. With nine days to go before a referendum that could end Scotland's 307-year-old union with the rest of Britain, the pro-Independence "Yes" movement has gained momentum, closing the gap on the pro-Union "No" campaign.

In an unprecedented move, Cameron and the leaders of Westminster's two other main political parties said Tuesday they would all travel to Scotland to campaign for a "No" vote - instead of appearing at the weekly question-answer session. "There is a lot that divides us - but there's one thing on which we agree passionately: the United Kingdom is better together," the three said in a joint statement. A new poll on Tuesday found the number of people saying they would vote "No" to independence fell to 39 percent from 45 percent a month ago while "Yes" support leaped to 38 percent from 32 percent. "This poll reveals a remarkable shift," said Tom Costley, head of polling company TNS Scotland.
