I don't think it is a big deal just like you.

It is just a normal activity that any govt should undertake.

The unfortunate part, while the Gujarat Govt is being proactive and doing what any govt should do, the other Govts seem to have gone on a paid holiday and totally moribund and impervious to the requirement of the people ever since independence.

I am no Modi fan, but I have been to Gujarat and also around many States of India, but I have to concede that the infrastructural development and beauty of the environment in Gujarat is something that has to be seen to be believed!

On this count, I give credit to Modi.

Construction of water treatment plant to begin this month - The Times of India
Construction of water treatment plant in suarat
SURAT: Surat Municipal Corporation's (SMC) standing committee has passed the proposal for the construction of a 40 MLD tertiary water treatment plant, which will be the country's biggest.

The construction of the Rs 86 crore project will begin on August 11 near Bamroli sewerage treatment plant and its foundation stone will be laid by chief minister Narendra Modi. The idea of tertiary water treatment plant was mooted some two years ago.

"We need this plant to ease the growing pressure of demand from a number of industries in Pandesara. Once this plant is ready in 18 months, we will be able to supply 40 MLD of treated water to them and save that much of potable water for use by the people in the city," standing committee chairman Bhimji Patel said.

At present, SMC supplies about 60 MLD of water to the industries in Pandesara against the requirement of nearly 100 MLD per day.

The city draws nearly 745 MLD of water for a population of 44.64 lakh living in localities spread over 325 sq km of area. The water requirement of the city by 2020 is likely to grow to 1,400 MLD.

CM will visit Bhavnagar and Surat today « Home | www.narendramodi.in

Chief Minister Narendra Modi will today open a cable-stayed bridge connecting Bhavnagar to Bhal region. Shri Narendra Modi will also review the drought relief measures in Bhavnagar. After Bhavnagar, on the same day Shri Narendra Modi will inaugurate a public private partnership project of high tech amusement park in Surat constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 200 crore. Shri Narendra Modi is also set to lay a foundation stone laying ceremonies of 11 bridges in Surat, three sewerage treatment plants, and inaugurate a few SMC projects. The new bridge has been erected on Bhavnagar creek replacing 'Lakkadiapul', which was swept away by heavy rain in 2007. The bridge reduces distance between Bhavnagar and proposed Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) as well as Ahmedabad. The 135-m-long four-lane bridge near old Bhavnagar port gives second entry point to the city from Ahmedabad. The bridge that has reduced distance to Bhavnagar by 30 km is expected to change economic dimension of around 30 villages of Bhal area, considered to be backward. The load of traffic from and toward Chitra industrial zone road will be reduced once the bridge construction is complete.'Lakkadiapul', near old Bhavnagar port collapsed in 2007 due to heavy rain. The bridge was then used just by pedestrians or cyclists and was the only connecting link between Bhavnagar and Bhal. Hence, it is very important for hundreds of daily wagers from Bhal region who come to Bhavnagar for work.A new cable stayed bridge has been constructed by state government's public works department through economic aid of Gujarat Maritime Board(GMB) at a cost of Rs 27.90 crore. It is 180 meter long and 11 meter wide with three lanes. On both sides two meter wide footpath has been provided.Earlier the villagers of Bhal area villages like Kala talav, Narmad, Kheta,Khatli had to first come to Nirmachokdi first through vehicle, and from there were reaching Bhavnagar for employment. But with a new bridge in place, the distance of 35 km has been reduced to zero. The bridge connects old and new ports of Bhavnagar to Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Vadodara and other cities with 8 km lesser distance compare to traditional route. After Bhavnagar in Surat Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi on the same day, is set to perform a foundation stone laying ceremonies of 11 bridges, planned to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs.393 crore. The longest among all will be the one connecting Chowk Bazaar with Adajan, to be constructed at a cost of Rs70 crore. Apart from these Shri Modi will inaugrate a few SMC projects, running into more than Rs100 crore.Shri Narendra Modi is also set lay the foundation stones of three sewerage treatment plants, with an estimated cost of Rs335 croreThe significant of all, Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi will lay foundation stone of Rs 200 crore public private partnership project of high tech amusement park in Surat. The project is designed by Australian multinational company Sanderson group. Same company has designed 22 theme parks across the world including Sentosa Island's Universal studio, Tokyo's Disney land, USA's Universal studio and Australia's Warner Brothers movie world theme park. The 15-acre theme park will be opened for public in April 2014.The theme park will have five divisions; Filmistan (a theme park), Toonpur(for kids), YuvaNagri (for teens). It will also have a water park, snow park(a hill), bird park(jungle), food an entertainment street(Surtigali). It will have 7D theater, 100-room four star hotel. Five star club with bowling alley, pool table, swimming pool, health spa, cricket line, badminton etc.Surat Municipal Corporation has planned this park in Magob-Dumbhal area.

AMC will now earn from sewerage plant - daily.bhaskar.com
AMC will now earn from sewerage plant
Ahmedabad: While commuters may complain about the bad odour emitting from the sewerage treatment plant at Pirana, the gas, however, leaves Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) officials smiling these days. No, it doesn't have any remote connection to laughing gas, but the smiles come from the civic body's ambitious plans to earn revenue from the gas that emanate from the Pirana plant.

AMC will soon set up a processing unit to capture, process and sell the gas. For this, it has already floated an Expression of Interest (EOI) wherein it has invited companies/firms to work on Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode with it.

At present, after gathering drainage water from the entire city, the sewerage plant emits a total of 12,000 cubic mtr of methane gas every day. This, on the flip side, poses a danger for the city's environment.

Speaking to DNA, Deputy Municipal Commissioner for Health, IK Patel said, "We have floated EOIs for our plans to encash from the gas which will also reduce environmental pollution besides giving a boost to production of natural energy. Though the project is on a primary level, we have discussed on two different proposals, out of which, the proposal of setting up the unit on PPP mode is likely to be finalised."

The earlier proposal required AMC to set up its own processing plant, which will require huge investment and hence the second proposal of PPP model is likely to be approved.

If set up on PPP mode, the civic body will be providing the land to the finalized agency and thus won't have to invest any amount.

An official of STP department said how AMC will be earning revenue from the gas without spending any amount. "The firm will bottle the 12,000 cubic mtr of methane gas and sell it. In return, it will pay AMC for every cubic mtr of gas. If the plans come true, AMC will earn Rs 3.5 crore annually.

AMC will allot the firm 10,000 sq mtr of land and will give the firm 18 months for the firm to set up infrastructure on it before it starts the project.
