I dont think All tank crew would be driving T72 or russian tank but they will be participating with there own tanks .Do you think Americans would be competing russians using the T72 tanks
T-72 is a Russian tank. If Arjun is not going, then it will be T-72 or perhaps T-90. I hope Arjun goes and shows off its prowess.

The problem with "Tank Biathlon" is this that it is not a competition with proper tank crews trainin embedded within it. It is just a stunt show for public, nothing more.

It is very far behind in most important thing, quality of training for tank crews, when compared to such competitions like LEOBEN club competition for Leopard 1 & 2 tanks users, Canadian Army Trophy that was during Cold War competition between NATO allies or Sullivan Cup competition for US Armed Forces.

I admitt, "Tank Biathlon" is entertaining but there is nothing more there simply because... who the hell races on full speed in a tank on the battlefield?! There is no training value here!

Indian Army tank crew to participate in 2014 Tank Biathlon Championshi

General Ivan Buvaltsev, the chief of the Russian armed forces' main department of combat training has said that Twelve countries -Angola, Armenia, Belarus, China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Kuwait, Mongolia, Russia, Serbia and Venezuela – are set to take part in 2014 Tank Biathlon Championship outside Moscow starting today 4th August 2014.

All teams except for China will compete using Russian-made T-72B tanks.

"Today the reports say that twelve foreign teams will compete – traditional tank crews from Armenia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, newcomers from Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Angola, Venezuela, India, Mongolia, Serbia and China," Gen Buvaltsev said adding that "China will perform on its own combat machine." Other foreign crews are to compete on Russian hardware – T-72B tanks.

"These will be the states that use our tanks and we have provided six-week training for them, just for equal opportunities to all the competitors," the general said. "They can get accustomed to the machines and exercise at a special range while the others are training at home."

"We have created more obstacles for the crews – the longer seven-kilometre-long track, a cross slope for a vehicle's manoeuvre and some more," Buvaltsev said noting that infantry combat vehicles and airborne assault vehicles will compete along with the tanks in the town of Alabino, southwest off Moscow, from July 26 to August 16.

"This year a sports race is another new competition," he said. "The crews' ratings will be scored for each race with the highest points for the best. But only four crews will reach the finals."

Russia's tank biathlon world championship kicks off outside Moscow

It was meant to be a celebration of peace, love and tanks as former cold war foes raced through obstacles and fired at targets.

Instead, Russia's tank biathlon world championship, which started on Monday at testing grounds outside Moscow, featured teams from the former USSR and its allies but no Nato countries. The competition follows a new low in relations with the US and European Union, which last week introduced "tier-three" sanctions against sectors of Russia's economy over the Ukraine crisis.

The defence minister, Sergei Shoigu, who started the competition as a way to raise the prestige of Russia's armed forces, said after the inaugural showdown in 2013 between Russia, Armenia, Belarus and Kazakhstan that the next competition would feature countries from outside the former Soviet Union, including Italy and Germany. Speaking in Washington in August 2013, Shoigu even said the US military had agreed to participate.

But after a year of diplomatic conflicts with the US and Europe over whistleblower Edward Snowden, the annexation of Crimea and the conflict in eastern Ukraine, no western countries showed up for the party. Shoigu nonetheless called the event a "new page in international military cooperation". The 12 countries participating were Angola, Armenia, Belarus, China, India, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Russia, Serbia and Venezuela.

Teams have to race through a 20km obstacle course in Russian-made T-72B tanks, pausing to fire at targets imitating tanks and helicopters. China brought its own 96A tanks. Russia also planned to show off its air power at the event by having Su-25 fighter jets and Mi-28N and Mi-24 helicopters fire rockets and cannons at ground-based targets.

At the competition on Monday, fans chanted "Russia!" as the home team tore across the finish line, the left front bumper of its tank crumpled from an impact with an obstacle.

Indian tank crews will be up against the crews from Belarus and Venezuela. :hmm:

Interestingly, China has sent their Type 099 MBT to take part in the competition.
