Win Indian tender for Russian submarines will help the best characteristics of its candidates - non-nuclear submarine project "Amur-1650", told RIA Novosti on Monday, a source close to the Russian system of military-technical cooperation.

The submarine "Amur-1650" with air-independent propulsion system (VNEU), along with submarines, "Scorpio" (France), Type-214 (Germany), S-80 (Spain) involved the Indian tender for the purchase of six submarines for the Navy national general worth 11.8 billion dollars. The contest was announced in September 2011.

"Russian submarine of Project 677E" Amur-1650 "has a good chance to win the tender because of their unique characteristics, including the time spent under water by promising VNEU - more than 25 days, as well as long-range detection of underwater targets "- the spokesman said.

In this regard, he recalled that the time spent underwater submarines of the Russian foreign counterparts is 15-20 days.

"Our submarine will also be able to compete with foreign counterparts on cost parameters," - said the source, noting, for example, that the price of "Scorpio" is approximately $ 500 million. At the same time, he did not name the exact price of the Russian submarine.

In mid-December 2011 press service of the "Rosoboronexport" reported that the St. Petersburg Central Design Bureau (CDB) "Ruby", which is the designer of the "Amur-1650", India has presented a draft of the ship, under the revised requirements.

Russian equivalent of "Amur-1650" - non-nuclear submarine Project 677 "Lada". In 2010, the lead ship of the project - a submarine "Saint Petersburg" - became part of the Navy of the Russian Federation.

Earlier, Chief Naval Fleet, Admiral Vladimir Vysotsky, told RIA Novosti that the first Russian non-nuclear submarine with VNEU can be created in 2014 by Project 677. Now at the "Admiralty Shipyards" laid two submarines of this project, which will be installed VNEU. The development goes faster pace VNEU specialists of the central design bureau (CDB), "Ruby."

They are indeed doing so.

But a sub is not built in a day.

In the interim, you have to buy subs to make up the numbers necessary to meet the defence requirement of a country!

Country flag
look we need to concentrate on strategic weapons like nuke subs.non-nuke subs are not strategic and we should not waste time and resources on something which we can get easily from a dozen countries willing to sell them.

If Govt gives order to private shipyard like Pipanav, L&T etc India will be self reliant & that will put big plaster on the Chinese chicken lollypop on the face :)

thats why I always like Russian arms in India, and would be very happy to see this Project 75I for a russian submarine.......

Russian arms including submarines are at least a generation ahead than China and it comes with full technology transfer on long, which can't be expected from any other supplier. even in case of France for M-MRCA deal, hardly 70% tech transfer is expected, with likely delay also. but we still hope that it won't get messed up like Project 75 for Scorpion Submarines, which is badly delayed with around 250% price hike to date

India would always have its keys arms developed by itself, similar to China, or at least it would buy it with full tech transfer and hence there is no alternative of Russia in this regard :thumb:
