^ Foxhound is an old bird now and must be laid to rest. Russia's cash strapped air force need to press the government for additional funds to re-arm the VVS with some contemporary fighters that it exports to rest of the world. MiG-31s even with upgrades cannot perform today's wartime roles well. They are super-fast, have a huge IR signature, have a huge radar signature and are not mean to engage in dogfights. Soviet era demanded some different parameters in air battles but not today.

Su-35BMs, MiG-35s, PAK FAs, PAK DAs, etc are the way Russia should go. Their air force is almost crippled with old fighters and some of the lowest flying hours. This doesn't suit the image of a former superpower.
