RUSSIA SENDS ADDITIONAL MILITARY EQUIPMENT TO SYRIAN ARMY AHEAD OF ITS EXPECTED ADVANCE IN NORTHERN LATAKIA
A Russian Ropucha-class [Project 775] large landing craft, Azov 151, has crossed the Bosphorus Strait and entered the Mediterranean, according to Turkish blogger Yörük Işık, who monitors developments in the area.
The Ropucha-class landing craft, capable of carrying carry a 450-ton cargo, is parcticipating in the so-called Syria Express, a wide-scale Russian effort to supply the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) with needed weapons, military equipment and supplies to combat militants in Syria.

It’s interesting to note that another batch of supplies is coming to the country amid the reported preparations by the SAA for a military operation in northern Latakia.
Last weekend, an SAA source told
SouthFront that the Syrian military is redeploying some of its forces from the southern part of the country to the northern part of Latakia preparing for a possible military action against Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda) there.
In early August, prts of northern Latakia and southern Idlib controlled by militants were named possible targets of the SAA military operation. The key reason is that militant groups constantly use these areas to carry out attacks on government positions and to launch armed drones at Russia’s Khmeimim air base in western Syria.
