BMP-3 is a bad Idea ..

The Turret is good but not the Chassis, One may need a better Crew compartment with that turret..

It would be much much better if we simply went with STRYKERS instead, this time around i think the Natashas may have a battle to win with the babes from hollywood also out for a piece of our pie;)

The Homegrown FICV project is dead in the water as of now, unless the MOD gets it's act together and fast tracks the process most private players are going to pull out of it. No sense in allocating sparse resources into a project(especially in these recessionary times) that has no assurance of ever being bought by the MOD as a official of a private defense major put it to me.

Why reject this crap?

1-Russians themselves are going with the Armata project
2-Not good for COIN operations
3-Troop compartment horrible now imagine this tin can in Thar Desert
4-At what price?? and most importantly will there be a good transfer of tech

At this stage its better to give local firms the opportunity and upgrade the BMP-2 :)

Been in BMP-2 and highly disliked it ..

One Might have to reconstruct BMP-2 to get it to perfection..

BMP-2 was purchased when we were cash strapped now time for us to move for something interesting a decent IFV that can be used for COIN operations and full fledged war. The list of potential vehicles is long .

I really like the Patria design

My Personal View / Solution on the Subject :

Vehicle >>

DRDO modified BMP-2 for different purpose, This Vehicle may look like BMP-2 but it is not, Its Longer 7 wheel and Wider than BMP-2, The Crew compartment is larger and most importantly there is space in Crew both in height and length..

Modifications :

1. Wider Tracks with New Wheels ..
2. Powerful engine and Propeller for Amphibious ops ..
3. Vehicle height should be equal to overall roof ..

----------------------------------
----------------------------------

Turret >>

RAFAEL's Samson Family of modular remote controlled weapon stations

Most of the Equipment is outside and very little controls are Inside, This will save space and more for Troopers..

In this Config it may carry more than 10 troopers..

------------------------

Just my view ..

@Kunal you know that this involves radically redesigning the BMP-2 and can we afford to invest so much on a design that is basically outdated.

I would rather go with an indigenous project however given the track record of DRDO better opt for the private sector.

Just my 2cents.

Lastly any idea what happened to Tarmour we still have lots of T-55 in storage

Most of it are done already as you can see, This version is operational in Army for some time..

Changes what i told are minor not radical, And can be done with very small amount of time & Money than issue RFIs and then inducting..

-----------------------------

IA prefers what it used to them & in that sense this idea fits the deal, Its provide all the needed requirement and more..

Any examples of home based solutions?

What are the actual requirements?

2. Restart Abhay APC Project with Collaboration with Private Co..

What are the actual requirements?
New Generation IFV/APC with superior firepower and Mobility, Rest is same as BMP-2..

Looks like DRDO never gets a fair chance.

Dont blame the Army of MOD, if they cant deliver what we want and in time, they wont get a chance! DRDO needs some competition to kickstart their efforts

Surer they did not deliver on time.

Fact of the matter they did deliver what ever was aksed of them. But they never get a chance to improve on their work, take for example the INSAS

Insas has been in service for over 15 years and has seen more than enough action in all possible terrains and still they failed to improve it. The INSAS is the perhaps worst example to defend the DRDO

There were improvements.

Kalantak was one.
