@pmaitra

I did not expect that

Want a better answer in view of track Vs Wheel debate.

Otherwise tank essentially is a ship.

I had already posted about this wheeled-vs-tracked issue in this link, about the time you joined this forum. Sadly, the video doesn't exist any more.

tank on wheels? :rofl: seriously?

even a single rpg, grenade, heavy caliber ammo like .50cal, 12mm, land mines etc can easily render this tank useless...

It is possible Russia is evaluating existing vehicles in order to take further their own programs. Quite like how Americans are evaluating BAE GCV while SAIC partners and General Dynamics partners are working on the American version.
That's true. But small correction, both GDLS and BAe GCV's are seen as US designed vehicles, while SAIC design is seen as more foreing one, because it is not completely new designed, but based on German SPz Puma.

If wheels are allowed then survivability becomes an issue. But taking out one wheel may not cause as much problems as taking out an entire track section.

Cross country mobility is always a major criteria.

Wonder how wheels perform with weights of 45 to 70 tons.

I do not think that wheels are good for something that heavy. And there is also a ground pressure issue. Tracks performs just better in this case.

Half Tank ,
Posted on October 4, 2007 by russia

This half tank could use and its four wheels and the two tracks on its sides. When it needs a high speed it lifts the tracks and moves very fast, on paved roads etc, but when it gets stuck in some heavy mud and four wheel drive is not enough it emerges its two tracks and can get out of some heavy swamps. And if the inflated rubber wheels get shot flat or burned down he can also use tracks – the wheels are not necessary when it moves on tracks.

:facepalm:

It is not a half-tank but one of early BMP prototypes, the Object 19 that among Object 1200, Object 911, Object 914 and Object 764 was participating in BMP program, in the end Object 764 (it's a bit redesigned variant designated Object 765 was used in later stages of tests) won and it is known these days as BMP-1.
