We have made an initial investment of 295 million $. They were asking 5.5 billion $ for the joint venture and we backed out. So this 295 million $ will be adjusted for other defence deals from Russia like S-400 or license payments from T-90 or Su-30mki.

In addition, the FGFA’s foreclosure means the loss of $295 million that India sunk into its “preliminary design phase” between 2010 and 2013.

In simple term We got the biggest fuck off by russia.

After bankrolling us they denied to transfer critical technology to us as per agreement, thats why we can called the deal.

Now they are going to give this su-57 plane made by Indian money to our enemies like China and Turkey with Tot to give evn bigger Fuck you to us.

Instead of cancellation outright we should have bought some of these planes and made our own fighter with American, French and Israeli tech.

This is the 4th FU after Ins Viki and mig-29, super sukhoi deals.maybe we need to take some drastic changes now in order to keep our independent policy alive.

@lcafanboy
On the other hand the soviet union/ Russia sold India advanced fighters jets in the 60 and 70s for sugar, rice and other commodities while most nations won't even sell India relevant tech nowadays for cash

Using you friends in your needy times then disregarding them in the good times is what brings bad karma

The IAF did not like the russian stealth aircraft as it doesnt have a powerful engine and also its stealth capability was not good enough. This aircraft was t50 pakfa, dont know about this su 57.

We had just paid 300 million dollars as initial peek in payment actual agreement has not been signed which was around 5.5 billion dollars with work sharing of 50% all IPRs co ownership but russians kept denying even peek in by our pilots. Most probably they feared that IAF will find it that it's just a souped up version of Sukhoi flankers and not true stealth optimised fighter. So we have not paid anything besides 300million. That's also the reason why it's delayed and in limbo due to lack of funds.....
Still 300 million is a big number for a poor country like us.

And 300 million is still 300 million.

Why not? The title of thread and concerns are very genuine.
I don't get where this "strategic partnership" has gone beyond purchasing weapons since collapse of Soviet Union.

Remember we aren't Pakistanis to develop stupid feelings of love for other countries. Russians wanted to occupy us during great game.

We Indians are a different country and different race. Our rise poses threat to some countries while plays in interest of others. There are no friends in this world, only allies.

Russia is not Soviet Union. There were articles on western news papers in 80s saying that only reason soviets supported us is because Ancient bond between russia and India(n elite).

Do I need to tell you what that "Ancient bond" is/was between russia and "Pandit" Nehru-Gandhi family ?

There is no ancient bond between India and Russia. It was temporary strategic alignment with USSR because of US' unprecedented support to Pakistan.

Now that Russia is supplying arms to Pakistan and selling tier 1 systems to China and Turkey there is no bond left.

Yeah but Russian systems are reasonably priced as opposed to French weapons , though they have poor serviceability . Quality wise of course no doubt french weapons are superb but just look at cost per aircraft of rafale in contrast to Sukhoi .

For what HAL is charging a new MKI isn't that much cheaper than a Rafale in purchase price much less matching it in serviceability rates and missions per day. With the entire fleet pending a Super 30 upgrade it doesn't make sense to buy MKI any further until the Super 30 price is finalised. It might cost just as much as a Rafale F3R.

How? Please can you elaborate?

HAL is charging something like $70 million per new MKI and that is without any Super 30 upgrades to it. Dassault charges $85 million per Rafale F3R. If HAL was to bloat the price manufacturing Super 30 it is probably cheaper to buy more Rafale. It is a more capable aircraft and better value for money.
