The chairman of Anjuman Minhaj-e- Rasool, an Islamic organisation working for peace and communal harmony, today said that if given a chance the residents of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) would love to join the Union of India.

"If a plebiscite is held in the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, more than 99 per cent people there would vote to become a part of the Union of India," Anjuman Minhaj-e-Rasool chairman Maulana Syed Athar Dehlavi told reporters here.

Dehlavi, who was in Jammu after a five-day visit to flood affected areas of Jammu and Kashmir, said the separatists in Kashmir has lost their grounds and the people in the Valley are talking about good governance and development.

"The separatists in Kashmir have lost their ground and the people in the Valley are discussing issues like good governance, development and education. They are not bothered about what a handful of people are saying," Dehlavi said.

Dehlavi said during his visit to Kashmir he found that the flood-affected people were all praise for the relief and rescue operations launched by the army.

"The people are praising the army as their savior. The army has done a wonderful job in Kashmir. The people in Kashmir have now realised that the army is their real savior," he said.

Dehlavi also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his "people friendly" policies in Jammu and Kashmir and the country.

He said his Anjuman Minhaj-e-Rasool was the only Islamic organisation that raised voice against Al-Qaida and other terrorist groups.

"When Kashmiri Pandits were forced to leave Kashmir we raised objection in the OIC in Jeddah and we were the one to condemn Osama Bin Laden and now we are strongly condemning Islamic State," Dehlavi said.

And who told him so?

He went to POK?

The worm turns goes the idiom.

Yet, yes, it is a welcomed development.

But the message should be taken by the Muslim grassroot to be effectively translated.

The only silver lining that I see, that inspite of the Hinduvta clutter by some elements of the Parivar that sometimes clouds the scene in India, Modi's staying above petty religious vote bank chatter, seems to be changing the Indian mindset and perspectives.

That is good.

This is good news. Its always better for GOI to make the best use of every possibility to bring a diplomatic end to the J&K.

That's interesting. Is the Union of India still India's official and formal name? I thought that India ceased to be the Union of India when she ceased to be a dominion of the British Commonwealth in 1950 when she became a republic, and afterwards known officially and formally as the Republic of India.

It is, republic of India, i think he doesn't know the difference or maybe union of India means for him greater India.

We don't want them. In case of Gilgit-Baltistan, it can be an independent nation under Indian defence umbrella (such as Bhutan/Nepal). But we want absolutely nothing to do with PoK maniacs.

Bhutan maybe but Nepal is far away from being under our protection and the average Nepali hates any insinuation that India has hold over Nepal . Keep that in mind if you ever meet a Nepali.

I know what you're talking about - the average Nepali hates such an insinuation. Nevertheless, it is India's military and nuclear umbrella that has allowed Nepal to exist as a nation and not be gobbled up by China. This is a fact.

After Bangladesh the PoK can be the new nation ie. The "State of Gilgit-Baltistan" coming out of slavery and extremism.

Good to see voices are coming out from PoK as they see India going forward and Pakis going towards chaos and already failed state.

Gilgit Baltistan is our gateway to europe. It cant be an independent state. There are 1000 ways to eleminate Jihadi elements, but it should not be at the cost of the land. I wud like to see GB interate with India.

It takes strong political will to eliminate terrorist infrastructure. Srilanka has set an example before us.

More than the Gateway to Europe, PoK is militarily very important for India because Chinese access to Gwadar port passes through Gilgit-Baltistan. If PoK comes under Indian control, China will have no other option than to depend on sea lanes through Indian Ocean for its oil imports. Indian Navy can watch & control the ships passing through IOR & may deny the access when needed.
