There's no getting rid of chief minister Akhilesh Yadav from the 10,000 HP laptops he distributed on Monday. Students who tried it are in deep trouble. Efforts to change the in-built tamper-proof wallpaper -- depicting Yadav and his father Mulayam Singh Yadav -- proved disastrous. The laptops crashed. And when local HP engineers tried to rectify the problem, Linux, one of the operating systems on the machine, got wiped. :cerealspit: Admitting they have received many such complaints, Vishnu Mohan, marketing manager, UP Electronic Corporation Limited, the agency that distributed the laptops, advised users not to tamper with the wallpaper. It can lead to crashes, he said. Even their teachers had sounded similar warnings, but sadly, that was the first thing most students had tried to do. Mohan, however, had a word of consolation: "The machines come with a one-year warranty. In case of glitches one can contact [email protected] or [email protected]." But students who tried to make a quick buck by selling the laptops, found they have a tougher problem. Local shops turned them down. The Lucknow administration said it was keeping tabs on the laptops. "Anyone caught selling or buying the machines would be prosecuted as per the agreement signed in the registration forms," said district magistrate Anurag Yadav. Of course you don't get freebies without compromising somewhere. Inshalllah Mulayam is inching closer to PM chair! Sent from Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
If it is multiboot lappy then playing with XP or 7 disturbs the linux bootloader and it fails to boot linux, but Akhilesh wallpaper thing is really weird and cheap :yuk:
Just wipe the disk and reload xp or something. As for reseeling/buying, just wait till the students bring them to Delhi for selling. That lappy cost 19,000k and it can sold for 5k and dealer will sell it for 10k. PS: The compy is built differently and hence venders are not ready to buy them. Each machine has a unique number, so it is rumored.
Except a few bigger cities, there is hardly any power supply, that too at low voltage. Soon the beneficiaries will demand Comp Maintenance Allowance. Such things are addictive and tend to escalate.
And 8 can't even boot Linux until Linux finds a way.And Akhilesh Wallpapaer is just an another conspiracy of MS to tear down Linux from passaging into Indian market....
This is hardly an insurmountable problem. As others have suggested on this page, just format the disk and reload an OS of your choice. And get rid of pesky Yadav duo's face from your desktop. Problem solved.
Apparently there would be a lap top police squad to prosecute sale and purchase of these gift compys. Lols. Nonody grudges a freebie, but shows people don't love the face of father-son duo.
Actually the biggest problem with these machines is not formatting and installing the new operating system, but finding the driver for video/audio/motherboard. They use practically obsolete mobo(and its hardware), which you would not find on internet easily. Only trial and error method will work and for that you need good internet connection/knowledge/patient, but after a few months local shop owners will have them. So just need to wait for some time
