RIL ventures into area of providing surveillance, security .
Oct 2, 2011

New Delhi: Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has ventured into the new area of providing surveillance and security in cities by joining hands with Siemens to offer intelligent electronic solutions to face growing terror threats.

Several state governments and local administrations have evinced keen interest in the technology to secure metropolises and cities in the wake of rising terror threats, sources said.

Besides presentations to various state and local administrations, the RIL has submitted an Expression of Interest to provide an electronic security system through fourth generation (4G) wireless networking in Mumbai, they said.

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has ventured into the new area of providing surveillance and security in cities by joining hands with Siemens to offer intelligent electronic solutions to face growing terror threats. Reuters
The role of surveillance and security has assumed greater significance with insurgency and terrorism becoming a global phenomenon, they said, adding that traditional security platforms are not able to cope with the new challenges.

"So there is an emerging need to move over to 4G wireless networking," they said.

With contiguous, pan-India Broadband Wireless Access spectrum, Reliance plans to offer 4G wireless networking services for safety, security and other advanced applications, the sources said.

They said Reliance and Siemens would "combine to leverage the 4G network for the low latency and assured Quality of Service (QoS) required for video and security applications."

RIL's new aerospace and security venture, led by its President and CEO Vivek Lall, was also in advanced discussions with global giants in the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle space.

RIL has designed and operates one of the largest integrated security automation systems in the world, consisting of over 12,000 cameras and thousands of other advanced security sensors, radars, and video analytics among others, the sources said.

It has also implemented advanced command and control centres for security of its own critical infrastructure for over a decade, they said, without elaborating any further.

Reliance has vast domain experience with hundreds of security and safety professionals having background in defence, paramilitary and police, as well as its own internally trained resources, they said.

Lall, an engineer of repute himself, was recently at the Paris Air Show where the discussions were launched. He is also making efforts to bring state-of-the-art technologies to India and create innovation capability in aerospace and security.

Latest technologies like the 4G broadband wireless enable the mobility of sensors and command and control points by giving updated Concept of Operations (Conops) in real time to all who matter in a secure manner, Lall had said recently at a FICCI homeland security conference here.

He had said that one of the most important aspects of fighting the homeland security battle was to undertake smart analysis of data and information from large data sets and diverse variety of sensors to gain knowledge.

Well why we are blaming only Reliance? All big industry houses are surviving only because they are good in managing netas and babus.

The situation is no different in any other place.

There is joke "bus kar ali" that is told in our community. it is about a man deciding the name of his 11th child when he is advised to name the last one as Bus-kar Ali.
The same goes here "Bus kar Ambani". i feel they should stop expanding for a few years and concentrate on the quality of service provided by existing companies.

RELIANCE INDUSTRIES PAVING WAY TO BUILD STRONG HOMELAND SECURITY SOLUTIONS

Dec 29, 2011 at 4:51 PM
Mukesh Ambani led Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) is making headway in its efforts towards building strong homeland security solutions in India. The energy-to-retail conglomerate is presently in talks with major American defense contractor – Raytheon – to form a joint venture which will look at opportunities for developing homeland security solutions in India and abroad. The talks have reached an advanced stage, as per company representatives, and are likely to materialize into a concrete JV soon.

Raytheon is the fifth largest military contractor in the world and fourth largest in the US.It is also the world's largest producer of guided missiles. Raytheon is most well known for its weapons and military and commercial electronics core manufacturing capabilities. Through a partnership with India's largest private sector conglomerate, Raytheon will provide Reliance Industries access to high-end security products and electronics engineering solutions for building a strong homeland security system. In doing so, RIL will have access to advanced resources to innovate and develop key security technologies for India and perhaps other countries as well, while Raytheon will be able to gain access to one of the fastest-growing markets for homeland security solutions.

Reliance Industries' homeland security and aerospace division is presently being headed by VivekLall. This subsidiary is looking to gather high-end resources in order to develop an advanced security solutions system which is likely to benefit the country a great deal. RIL has also entered into a joint agreement with Siemens AG – a Germany based engineering conglomerate – to develop intelligent electronic security solutions with mutual cooperation. As per the official statement released by RIL, RIL's subsidiary 'Reliance Security Solutions' and Siemens have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop smart security solutions for safe, secure and smarter cities and highways in India. The JV has also been shortlisted by the Maharashtra State government to support an initiative that aims at securing Mumbai city by installing home land security systems, such as video surveillance cameras, command and control centers and data serves across the city.

India' homeland security industry is currently valued at $8 billion. This figure is expected to grow to $14 billion in the next three years and to $16 billion by 2016. India's safety and security market is currently valued at around US$ 500 million and expected to grow by more than 30 per cent in the coming years. The video security equipments segment (including CCTV) has already seen a rise of 55% in the last few years and this rate is expected to continue over the coming years as well.

Reliance Defence in Pact with UAE's Abu Dhabi Ship Building for Naval Ship Manufacturing

NEW DELHI: Anil Ambani-led Reliance Defence Ltd (RDL) has signed an MoU with Abu Dhabi Ship Building to set up a strategic partnership for construction of naval ships, including frigates and destroyers to address the demands of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), over the next 10 years.
RDL is a fully owned subsidiary of Reliance Infrastructure Ltd while Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB) is a leading provider of construction, repair and refit services for naval, military and commercial vessels.
"Under this MoU, RDL and ADSB are investigating the opportunity to set up a strategic partnership for the construction of naval ships - including frigates, destroyers and other specialized vessels to address the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) over the next 10 years," a statement by the Reliance Group said.
The agreement could also see ADSB delivering maintenance, repair, overhaul and refit services to the vessels, in line with regional requirements, it said.
Reliance Group is likely to use its newly acquired ship-building facilities at Pipavav for implementation of this collaboration.
The MoU signing follows the joint statement issued during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to UAE on August 18 which highlighted "cooperation and manufacture of defence equipment in India".
Skills developed and the experience gained through this collaboration will further add to Reliance Group's capabilities and position it favourably as a strategic partner for Indian Navy's future programmes, the statement said.
The programmes include Combat Management Systems (CMS), Integrated Bridge Solutions (IBS), Combat System Integration (CSI), Integrated Platform Management Systems (IPMS) and staff training and development.
ADSB is a major regional provider of construction, repair and refit services for naval, military and commercial vessels in the GCC region.
This potential collaboration could help both companies expand their market share and address new opportunities, it said.
Headquartered in Abu Dhabi and established in 1996, ADSB was originally formed to support the repairs and refits of UAE Navy vessels and currently has a portfolio of construction and refit projects worth over UAE Dirham 3 billion.
ADSB is 40 per cent owned by Mubadala, 10 per cent by Abu Dhabi's government while the rest 50 per cent is publicly traded on UAE's stock exchange.
