That maybe the case, but then RCLs are heavy, especially the 106.

It is not as accurate as a guided missile.

Hence, not of the same hit probability.

Larger emplacement if in defence.

Larger silhouette.

It is huge compared to the Missles and takes longer to set up.

And so many other factors!
Kargil actually was a good test lab for RCLs and they did pretty well too... I think extremely capable for close combat and firing at higher positions. I agree, precision is less but then does damage too..

Wiki states:

The missile was used successfully in the 1973 Yom Kippur War by the Egyptian army. On average each missile team expended 20 rounds—or about 2,000 rounds per division during the war. Soviet sources claim that the missile accounted for 800 Israeli tank losses, though some sources report as high as 1,063 — this probably includes tanks that were out of action for less than 24 hours and then returned to duty after repairs.

I was in Kargil.

Where exactly were RCLs used?

Misquote - Karl Gutavs which are RCLs in classification.
Carl Gustav is not an RCL Gun; at least not in the Indian Army.

It is the replacement for the 3.5" Rocket Launcher.

IA had 57mm RCL for the Mountains and 106mm RCL for the Plains.

They have been replaced by Missiles.

Haven't understood you.

I thought we were talking of the IA.

It uses 84mm Carl Gustav.

I have not mentioned anything of the Pak Army!

Where did you get that from?

84 mm is the standard size of Carl Gustav and is clearly a RCL Rifle.

Really.

The Indian Army nomenclature is Rocket Launcher 84mm Carl Gustav.

Visit any infantry battalion and check it out, even if you don't believe me, having commanded an Infantry unit and an Infantry Brigade.

Ask them for a RCL and check the reaction!

I would agree here sir, infact all Arty Units are equipped with RCLs too and we in the army refer it by that name.but at the end of the day it still is a RCL RL. It works on that principle so is a RCL

You are from the IA Arty?

Guess why the Arty has RL?

57mm and 106 was known as RCL Rifles in the US. It was known as the RCL Gun in India.

Arjun uses a 120 mm Rifled gun.

Should it be called a 120mm Rifle?

Nomenclature is based on usage.

84mm Carl Gustav replaced the Infantry RL.

Why does the Infantry sec have 10 men, but the Engr sec have 11?

Each arty unit is equipped with 2 RCLs. Basically gun area protection. Also for deployment during Convoys. Light Regiments have more because of their forward deployment.
