Pakistan summons Indian Envoy to protest 'RAW officer' presence in Baluchistan

Islamabad: Pakistan on Friday summoned Indian High Commissioner Gautam Bambawale to lodge its protest over "subversive activities" of an alleged RAW officer, a day after Pakistani security forces claimed to have arrested him.

"The Indian High Commissioner was summoned by the Foreign Secretary on Friday and through a demarche conveyed our protest and deep concern on the illegal entry into Pakistan by a RAW officer and his involvement in subversive activities in Balochistan and Karachi," the Pakistan Foreign Office said in a statement.

Balochistan Home Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti on Thursday identified the "official" as Kul Yadav Bhushan who he alleged was a commander-ranking officer in the Indian Navy and was working for Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).

Bugti claimed that Bhushan was in contact with Baloch separatists and terrorists fuelling sectarian violence in Balochistan.

The Minister, however, did not disclose the exact location of where he was arrested.

However, sources said that Bhushan was arrested from Chaman area of Balochistan, which is close to the Afghanistan border.
Pakistan had accused India of stoking violence in Balochistan and Karachi in the past but it is for the first time that it has claimed arresting a RAW officer.

India has dismissed all such allegations.

India Says Ex-Naval Officer Arrested In Pak Is Not RAW Intel Agent
http://www.ndtv.com/india-news/indi...-intel-agent-1290623?pfrom=home-lateststories

India has today acknowledged that a man in Pakistan served with the navy, but denied that he is an agent for RAW or the Research and Analysis Wing, India's main foreign intelligence agency.

"The individual has no link with Government since his premature retirement from Indian Navy," said the Foreign Ministry in a statement.

In Islamabad, the Indian envoy Gautam Bambawale was summoned by the Pakistani government which alleged that the arrested Indian, identified as Kulbushan Jadev, had instigated terror attacks in Karachi and unrest in Balochistan.

Kulbushan Jadev was arrested yesterday in a raid in Balochistan, said Pakistani media, claiming that the "Indian spy was sponsoring terrorist and subversive activities in Balochistan."

Pakistani sites reported that the arrest will be raised by Nawaz Sharif during his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Washington later this month when both leaders travel there for a summit on nuclear security.

PS: Govt denied he is not RAW officer, but NDTV says he is!! See the photos. There was no need to show Paki propaganda of him being RAW official and could have cropped the photo.

That seems like the most probable case. They (ISI) immediately used their Indian branch office (NDTV) to bolster claims that he was a naval officer.

Ask yourselves, why would R&AW (a civlian agency with their own assets) recruit a military officer who would throw up so many flags in Pakistan because of his military service? It just doesn't make any sense.

To be frank, nothing to get worked up about.

It's just people trying so hard to prove their "loyalty" to the Pakistani Army.

We all know who's the boss in that country and what they want.

I'm (and @tharun) saying the same thing you are saying. This is some naval officer who had taken early retirement or possibly dishonorably discharged from the Navy and was co-opted by the ISI to travel to Pakistan so that they could stage the drama of capturing him and he would then 'admit' to being a RAW officer.

None of us are saying that he is really a RAW officer. When I said that ISI contacted NDTV, I was alluding that they are using the compromised media in India to bolster their lies.

With the Iranian president to visit pak, they are looking for a bargaining chip.
@Screambowl's interpretation seems most likely. India has claimed that a retired Pakistani military officer has snuck into India, so Pakistan felt the need to counter it by staging the capture of an 'Indian agent', to preempt any potential embarrassment.

Indian arrested in Pakistan has no link with government, says MEA

NEW DELHI: The government on Friday acknowledged the arrest of a former Navy official in Pakistan, but dismissed Islamabad's claim that he was an Indian intelligence official.
"The person arrested has no link with government since his premature retirement from Indian Navy, the ministry of external affairs said on the purported arrest.

"India has no interest in interfering in internal matters of any country and firmly believes a stable and peaceful Pakistan is in the interest of all," the MEA said.

India has also sought consular access to the arrested individual.
Earlier on Friday, Pakistan summoned Indian high commissioner Gautam Bambawale to lodge its protest over "subversive activities" of an alleged RAW officer, a day after Pakistani security forces claimed to have arrested him.
