for some tamils , he was a dravidian being attacked by the arya--rama
As per Hindu Mythology, Ravana is son of a brahmin. Ravana was born to a great sage Vishrava (or Vesamuni), and his wife, the daitya princess Kaikesi. Brahmins are considered as Aryans. Vishrava was the son of Pulastya and the grandson of Brahma. Pulatsya was one of the ten Prajapati or mind-born sons of Brahma, and one of the Saptarishis (Seven Great Sages Rishi) in the first Manvantara. All specifies that Ravana is an Aryan.

And, he was born in the Sandilya gotra, again which is a brahmin godhra. How can he be a Dravidian? Rama is an Aryan and Ravana is also an Aryan too.

Ravana being a Dravidian is a totally wrong perception.

'Just because they are different does not mean they are evil...' Sir, Ravana's lineage was the most highest and most prestigious brahmin at that point of time. Ravana at his young age, learnt about the vedas and upanishads from Lord Brahma himself... He was the step brother of Wealth God... Kubera and the most interesting thing was... He was the father - in - law of Rama... He was the father of Sita Devi... Ravana thought that she might be feeling pain in the woods and he took her and kept in Ashok Vatika in Sri Lanka... Think about that... Was she the daughter of Janak??? King Janak found her in the fields during ploughing and thought that she was the daughter of 'bhoomi devi' The land godess... This was the myth part... Now let us look into the science part in it... When she was born, one astrologer said that she would be a bad omen for the asura kingdom and that shewould be the reason behind her father's death... So, the courtyards of Ravana took the baby and abandoned her in the field... Leaving her for the death... Just you read the book, 'Asura' by Neelakantham (sorry forgot the firat name)... And then try to judge every thing in the correct cronological manner... Not by the myth... But by science and technology...
