Source? I think a 10,000-12,000ton nuclear multipurpose destroyer class is suitable instead.
Logic dictates we do as much, we already have at least 2 such Giants Sailing with Asian Navies with the Chinese Type 55 coming up next. We need to have a larger flagship class destroyer/cruiser with 100+ VLS cells as well. Gives immense firepower to any CBG we choose to field.

The Giants Sailing in Asia Already are
1) ATAGO Class destroyer from Japan
Displacement-10000 tonnes (Full load)
Missile Armament- 16SSM in containerized launchers + a total of 96 VLS cells capable of launching a variety of missiles

2)KDX-3 (King Sejong the Great) Class Destroyer From Korea
Displacement- 11000 tonnes (Full load)
Missile Armament- 16 Containerized Ashms + A total of 128 VLS cells for a mix of SAMS & LACMs

The Chinese Are also about to Lauch their Giant 14000 tonne Type 55 Destroyer which will field no less than 128 VLS cells, As fo now the Chinese are believed to be plannig for fielding around six of these behemoths.

Type 055 class destroyer s have between 96 - 112 vls cells. This is because Chinese vls cells are designed to accommodate larger missiles than US as they
have not perfected miniaturization of missiles.

There will be two series of type 055

055A - 96 - 112 vls

055B - 128 vls

This is closest to what type 055 will look like:

4 x 16 bow vls
3 x 16 stern vls
1 x 130mm gun
1 x CIWS
1 x 24 cell HHQ 10
1 x Type 1130 CIWS

Well it can be, but there is still no official input on that, maybe its just in its design phase right now, perhaps could be the most advanced ship ever built by India in India.
The team at DND finish designs in a day, since they know all the specifications to all the systems. I think it is too late to assume we are a laggard country.

Or, it could be another secretive project just like the ATV. Well, we'll get to know more about it in future obviously.

it seems that the construction of third P15B has begun for months...we observed the first module was laid down in Oct 2016 via some comercial satellite image website few months ago. and the free GE was just updated which we could share...interesting thing is that MDL assembled these P15B on each of three slipways...

Vishakapattnam class are far improved versions of the kolkata class, in terms of super structure and internal design and automation, and yes the follow on class has been disclosed by the Indian navy, that weighs 13,000 tonnes displacement and includes laser weapons.
The only things that matters is the number of missiles and the various roles they perform in the evergrowing threat of high speed missiles and the more silent submarines. With its capabilities in the anti submarine warfare the destroyers and also all the vessels are fit for ASW capability.
The kolkata class are underpowered, atleast i hope the vishakapattanam are armed for their full capacity. though the vishakapattanam classes can handle one hundred missiles packed to them. its the job of the naval officers to keep them placed on the vessels.
