I personally believe that there is much issues with Indian internal security, There is a reason, why these groups, Islamic or otherwise, make the police look like wussies the moment they form a group. I believe Indian Police is over worked and under paid, resulting in violations and corruption.

Lets take Kerala.... Size 38863 km2 (15005 sq mi) , for Population 31,841,374 Kerala Police 42,149 strong ( traffic police, riots, intelligence, officers etc) and there are another 7000 which are ministerial staff.

Police to Population Ratio: 1: 755 ie Kerala has approx 133 Policemen for 100,000 People

Rajya Sabha

As per data compiled by Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) the number of Police personnel per one lakh of population in India as on 1.1.2006, is 1:142.69. (142.69 Police Personnel for every 1 lakh population)

No information as to the police and population ratio of other countries is being compiled by BPR&D. However, as per the report prepared by UN Division for Policy Analysis and Public Affairs available on the web site of United Nations released on 31st March, 2005, such ratio in some of the countries are like, Italy (559.0), Mexico (491.8), Saudi Arabia (386.5) and Belgium (357.5) which have much higher Police-Population ratio than India (136.4) during the year 2002 for every 1,00,000 (one hundred thousands) population.

As per the VII Schedule to the Constitution of India 'Police' and 'law and order' are State subjects. Therefore, the primary responsibility to decide about the composition of their police forces, as also modernizing and equipping them adequately, to face the challenges to internal security, is on the State Govts. However, the Central Government has been advising all the State Governments to fill up the existing vacancies of police personnel and outsource some of the non-core police duties which will also save manpower and promote police-community partnership.

This information was given by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Shri Sriprakash Jaiswal in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha today.

In the current state of affairs I am pretty happy about this statistic. Unless the PD is completely overhauled I would not want increasing numbers.

One of the major factors contributing to current state of affairs, is the very less number of Police.
I have seen Traffic Policemen giving up on certain intersections, because they are overwhelmed and the public makes monkey's out of them.

When a Police Jeep, arrives which usually carries 5-7 Policemen, and the mob because 50+, That particular Police station has to request other stations for men. By then the situation is out of control, which is why most Police dont even act.

The reason for such a dismal police ratio is because the govt is socialistic. So instaed of doing the actual work of the govt, like providing law and order, justice and defence, govt is diluting its attention on things which are best left to private sector like Health, Education, manufacturing and other services.

This is something we libertarians have warned for a very long time. You cant have a cake and eat it too. You either use your revenue for law and order or for welfare. You cant have it both.

Until Indian voters understand this, they will have to suffer from the Rapes , thuggery and underworld.:thumb:
