BANGALORE (PTI): US-based vehicle-maker Polaris Industries on Friday said it has received its first order from the Indian Army.

"We have already received our first order from the Indian Army," Polaris India Managing Director Pankaj Dubey told reporters.

He, however, declined to throw more light on the deal with the Army. Polaris military vehicles would strengthen the security in border areas.

"Polaris Light Tactical Vehicles would help achieve quick movement in anti-insurgency and anti-terrorist operations," he said.

For Indian Army!!

What numbers? When and where?
Can any one make investments and start a production line for 500 vehicles ? What after that?

Let us not be unnecessarily fools. Inspite of requirement of thousand of aircrafts in civil aviation we have not done anything ? Give it to BEML. They will import parts and assemble these vehicles after charging hepty profits for themselves.

Kunal is the vehicle mentioned by you an all terrain vehicle or an all surface vehicle? if it could be fixed with a pair of wings maybe it would be called the all purpose vehicle. :fear:

The vehicle is actually an All Terrain Vehicle. Floats on water and can travel on ground. In fact Mumbai special Forces bought a few dozen of them to patrol the sea coast.

Leading commercial vehicle manufacturer Eicher Motors Limited has signed a joint venture agreement with US based ATV maker Polaris Industries. The agreement signals the creation of a new company with a 50-50 partnership between both the companies. The aim behind this agreement is to design, develop, manufacture, market and sell personal vehicles for both the Indian market as also abroad. There are plans to set up a manufacturing plant in India and currently the partners are evaluating locations with expected productions to start from 2015.

Under the conditions of the agreement, the board of the new company will be governed by equal number of representatives from the parent organization. Over a three year period, investments to the tune of Rs 250 crore will be made into this joint venture company.

Commenting on the joint venture, Siddhartha Lal, managing director and CEO, Eicher Motors Limited said, "At Eicher Motors Ltd., we are committed to exploring and pursuing opportunities for long term profitable growth and value creation for our stakeholders. This joint venture with Polaris is a strategic initiative towards that direction. Currently, we are present in the commercial vehicle and motorcycle categories. The collaboration with Polaris Industries Inc will allow us to enter into a new vehicle segment."
