Tacheng is a northwestern town in China and the border partol there has to take care of 500 KM's border line. This winter the temperature dropped to record low below -40C. some roads to their stations are completely blocked by the snow. Xinjiang Military Zone sends out new ATVs to transport logistic materials to these service men deep inside high moutains and unpassable roads.

Horses are still used by border patrol stationed in some remote loaction since we don't have enough high plateau helicopters. These soldiers conduct routine partol under -40C.

Snow can be waist deep even horses sometimes find it impossible to traverse.

95 rifles, even most border partol use 03 rifles, 95 is not as long and heavy.

These small build mogolian horses has a super solid bone structre and very accustomed to rigid cold weather.
