Congrats!

Philippine population reaches 100 million on SundayAsia - China Daily Asia

MANILA - Population of the Philippines reached 100 million as of Sunday, according to the country's population officials.

The figure was based on population projections by the Philippine Statistics Authority, which says three babies are born in the Philippines every minute.
The Philippines is the 12th most populous country in the world.

According to the United Nations Population Fund (UNPFA), 10 percent of Filipino girls aged 15 to 19 have begun childbearing. People under the age of 25 make up 54 percent of the whole population.

Klaus Beck, country representative of UNPFA, said unmet need for reproductive health care, especially voluntary family planning, remains great in the Philippines.

Beck added that there is a need to respond to the rights and needs of young people by providing them with education, job opportunities, and life skills including appropriate information about their sexuality.

Due to such population growth, plus rising meat consumption, the Philippine archipelago may become a net food importer (on a calorie basis) by 2020. All those ships laden with food, fertilizer, and fuel would have to sail through a thick field of PLA radars, aircraft, ballistic and cruise missiles, and submarines before reaching Filipino ports. The Philippines would need either an outside naval guarantee or Chinese benevolence (or, most likely, both) to keep those sea lanes open - and China's naval and air buildup means the outside naval guarantee becomes less and less powerful every coming year.

By 2020, the Philippines may require Chinese permission to feed itself. Then the SCS dispute would essentially be irrelevant.
