India's top People's Liberation Army of Manipur leader arrested

PLA leader S.S. Angou was detained at the Gopalpur beach resort in Ganjam district. Ango has been identified as the PLA external affairs leader.
Berhampur Superintendent of Police Ahmed Shefeen said Angou was detained on the basis of data and intelligence reports provided by intelligence agencies to Odisha police, which allowed Berhampur police district personnel to track down and detain the suspect in Gopalpur, The Hindu newspaper reported Tuesday.
Information about Angou's arrest has been sent to India's National Investigating Agency, with NIA officials heading to Gopalur to take custody.
The NIA has long been investigating allegations of links between terrorist groups of India's northeastern states with indigenous Maoist groups, which have a substantial presence in south Odisha, with Berhampur being a key urban center of the region.
Manipur's PLA is a leftist separatist group fighting for establishment of a separate independent socialist state in Manipur state.
