Pearl Harbor ceremony marks 72nd anniversary of bombing | Fox News

About 3,000 people are expected to gather at Pearl Harbor on Saturday to commemorate the anniversary of the 1941 Japanese attack that launched the U.S. into World War II.

About 70 World War II veterans and survivors of the Dec. 7 bombing plan to attend the morning ceremony on the shore overlooking a memorial to the USS Arizona battleship that sank during the attack.

The event will begin with a traditional Hawaiian blessing. There will be a moment of silence at 7:55 a.m., the minute the bombing began 72 years ago. A guided missile destroyer will pass by and render honors to the USS Arizona and its crew.

Ray Frazee said he can still remember the enemy plane coming straight at him as he stood on the deck of the USS Argonne docked in Pearl Harbor more than seven decades ago today.

"It feels like you're still there, you'll never forget something like that," the 92-year-old Wellesley man told the Herald yesterday.

"One of my very best friends was killed that day," he added, saying he notified the parents about their son's death.

Today marks the 72nd anniversary of the attack on the Hawaiian naval base where about 2,400 Americans were killed during that day of infamy in 1941.

Rare warplane that survived Pearl Harbor attack returning to US | Fox News

A New York-built American fighter that's one of the few remaining still-airworthy planes to survive the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor is being donated to a Massachusetts-based organization that flies World War II aircraft at living history events across the nation.

Robert Collings, executive director of the Stow, Massachusetts-based Collings Foundation, said that the purchase of the Curtiss P-40B Warhawk from an aviation museum in England was completed this week. The plane will be disassembled and shipped to the United States, where it eventually will fly over Buffalo and other cities, with plans to participate in the 75th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack in 2016, he said.

"The history that comes with it is pretty special," Collings said Friday, the day before the 72nd anniversary of the surprise attack in Hawaii that launched the U.S. into the Second World War. "It was obvious that we needed to get this airplane back to America."

Yes, 72 years we have passed. After just only 1 year we will pass 100 anniversary of WW1 started in 1914. More 50 years later no one will care of these events.

First half of 20th century was very much eventful.

I am either too late in taking birth to participate in important historical events or I am too early to enjoy more modern scientific technology.

How ever @W.G.Ewald first attack in Pearl Harbour came from Japanese Midget submarines, not from bombers. First Japanese POW of WW2 was also a sailor from Midget submarine.
