ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has acquired one squadron of F-16 multi-role fighter aircraft from Jordan and 13 F-16s will be inducted into the service next month.

With this, the strength of PAF F-16s will reach 76. The fighter aircraft have been purchased from Jordan and they were in the use of the Royal Jordanian Air Force (RJAF). The deal has already been finalised and inked by both the countries. The 13 aircraft are of F-16 A/B Block-15 and the PAF has similar aircraft in its fleet which are flying satisfactorily.

The deal about 12 A models and one B model aircraft has been authenticated by the manufacturing company and the US government has also given its nod for the sale/purchase of the planes.

Well-placed defence sources told The News here the other day that the purchased aircraft were in good condition since they had attained Mid-Life Update (MLU) and they would be providing service for another 20 years with almost 3,000 hours on average available to them for flying.

They have been modified into Air Defence Fighters (ADF) versions. The Ogden Air Logistics Centre performed structural upgrades to extend the aircraft life from the designed 4,000 to 8,000 hours flying time as part of the programme. They also modified the aircraft engine bay for the upgraded Pratt and Whitney F100-220E engine. The induction of the planes will give a boost in air power to the PAF that is rendering a remarkable service in the war against terror.

what else to expect from third class country . even PIA planes are also 2nd or 3rd hand
US cannot directly equip them , so they are being inducted using the third route. uncle is very chalak.
anyways uncle still wants pakistan to be under it's influence. so good for them. that's one reason india is still very cautious with respect
to unkil. F-16 A/B model and not that sofisticated, but the still they will have them i good numbers.

:ranger: They even have to perform Mid Life Upgrade..
So the cost of these 3rd hand planes will rise and since being lesser in number the cost of each upgrades will also increase..

These terrorists are not only beggers but horrible businessmen as well :rotflmao:

if these third hand aircrafts got MLU, then remote kill switch will come with them....................:taunt1:

so Pakistanis must use the aircraft as it is...............

BTW with tech getting advance, Uncle can effectively put geo fence and kill switch on these, plus i read someplace they are made in such a way that they cant get lock on NATO aircrafts, or their radar wont see NATO planes if remote switch is activated................ Uncle is smart...................:hail:

Did you do some research before posting wrong information?
These 13 Falcons are block 15 ADF variants directly purchased from USA in May 1998.
They are in very good shape and will het mlu3 by TAI in Turkey asap.

PAF wants to maintain a fleet of 100-120 F-16's upto 2025, it has been quoted earlier by several PAF officials.

ok my mistake i was wrongly giving you F16 delivered to them in 2008-09

but you guys are actually getting one from 1997-98

Peace Falcon I

On July 29th, 1996, a $220 million agreement was signed between the United States and Jordan authorizing the lease of 16 F-16 fighter jets (12 F-16A and 4 F-16B aircraft) to Jordan. This agreement, formally signed by Field Marshal Marei, chief of staff of the Royal Jordanian Armed Forces and Major General Ababneh, chief of staff of the Royal Jordanian Air Force, was linked to the Middle East peace process and close US-Jordanian relations. The complete material/training support agreement, known as the F-16 Peace Falcon Program, includes funding for aircraft structural upgrades, engine modifications, support equipment and spare parts procurement, and pilot/maintenance training.

The agreement consisted of two lease contracts and a Letter of Offer and Acceptance (LoA). The first lease was a no-cost lease for Jordan, covering 13 aircraft (12 A models and 1 B model, block 15 OCU's that were modified into ADF (Air Defense Fighters) versions. Under the Arms Export Control Act, the DOD was able to provide these aircraft at a no-cost lease because they had flown off over 75 percent of their life (i.e. more than 3,000 hour).
Three of the B-model aircraft still had more than 25 percent of their life left and they fall under the second $4.5 million lease. Both leases cover a 5 year period. The LOA is for $215 million, covering all costs associated with upgrading those aircraft, doing the structural modifications to them, the engine upgrades, providing the support equipment, the logistics, the training.

The aircraft, all of which have flown previously by active Air Force and Air National Guard units, had been in storage for at least a year at the Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Center (AMARC) at Davis Monthan AFB, Tucson, Arizona before they were shipped to Hill AFB, Utah. There the Aircraft Directorate personnel from the Ogden Air Logistics Center performed structural upgrades to extend aircraft life from the designed 4,000 to 8,000 hours flying time as part of the Falcon-Up/Service Life Improvement program. They also modified the aircraft engine bay to accept the upgraded Pratt and Whitney F100-220E engine. New ground was broken with this Foreign military Sales program: taking 'used' F-16s from the desert (AMARC), completely refurbishing and modifying them and delivering the aircraft to the customer within a 17-month time frame.

On October 14th, 1997, Lt. Col. Scott Curtis, flying safety officer at Hill AFB, pushed the throttles forward and released the brakes on his F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft. Within a matter of seconds the aircraft accelerated to 140 knots and the first Jordanian F-16 (tail number #80-0547) was airborne. It took more than 13,000 man-hours to get this F-16 ready for its first flight. The #80-0547 had not flown since November 1994, when it was flown from the ANG Station in Garden City, N.J. to the Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Center, Davis-Monthan, Arizona. The official roll-out of the Peace Falcon was on October 28th, 1997, on Hill AFB, Utah.

The Jordan program required that six aircraft be available for ferry flight delivery to Jordan in December 1997, and five each to be available for ferry flight in January and February 1998. At that time, the RJAF planned to acquire as much as 50-70 F-16s (if possible C/D models), enough to equip 3 squadrons.

so 75% of life in 1997-98 and it was given on lease from Uncle, so it was second hand when it was with Jordan AF, So you guys still end up with third hand aircraft with 75% of life in 1997-98. :hail::hail::hail:

this is even worse then what we thought earlier..............

But we are! JF-17 programme is running on schedule with block 2 under production and third sqdn tobe formed in June this year. PAF will induct at least 250 JFT's in five blocks (each block to have 50 units) and upgrade the previous blocks to later designs. Block 3 will have AESA, upgraded avionics and weapon suite including improved version of SD-10 and ground attack capabilities.

F-16 is a very reliable military jet, PAF has command over this jet and loves it. During the nineties we placed our second order which would have brought the total number of F-16's in PAF inventory to well above 100 (40+71) but couldn't materialise it due new sanctions. IN 2005 18 block 52's were puchased with an option for another 18 but PAF dopped the option to buy more new F-16's and instead to look for upto 50 F-16's under EDA programme with the assistance of USA. The RJAF batch had been in the pipeline for some years already. Turkey's TAI is offering a very handsome and competitive MLU3 programme which is sanction/embargo proof.
So PAF is still looking t bring its F-16 fleet upto 100-120 of which only 58 are new (40+18)

There are more than 400 mirages and F-7's which need to be replaced within few years. PAF needs all the JF-17's and F-16C/D's she can get and will still buy 38-100 FC-20/J-10C's as a third platform before the Stealth enters serice in PAF around 2017/18.

I will not make any post on DFI as self-punishment for 10 days if I am proven wrong.
This news item is cooked up and it will be denied soon.

In the past, third country transfers of US equipment have sometimes been allowed and sometimes been blocked by the US. Spares for these wil have to come from the US - even if Pakistan has the money to pay Jordan. I doubt if the news item is true - but if true I hope it is used as a reason for India to distance itself further from the US.

Also I wonder - if the great JF 17 is doing so well, why buy used F-16s and increase dependence on the US. Are the JF 17s really as bad as I think they are.
